My mom taught me to clean and cook these. If you grasp the green of the leaves between your index finger and thumb you can get the greens off the veins as well as the mid rib, get used to it and you can do it pretty quickly. It makes your final product much more delightful. That'd actually be too much stem for me. Try it and you'll never go back.

Is there nothing that you don’t do well??!!! What a nice garden. I haven’t had mustard greens since I was a kid. Mostly eat collards as an adult. Thank you for all you do. Take care.

nice Florida broadleaf mustards. ....I like to combine mustards and turnips. And, sometimes ill buy fresh(not smoked) neckbones and brown them in my mustard pot. Then add the mustards, water, and salt. Then after cooking for about an hour I take the neckbones out and debone the meat and chop it up and return to pot. The bones give an added flavor. yum yum..,,yours look good and yummy too.Have to eat them with juice....got to crumble up your cornbread into the juice..,just sayn

I like all greens, but Mustard and turnip greens are my favorite! I use a smoked ham shank to season my water and let that simmer with an onion and a spoonful of better than bullion while I clean and prep my greens. Add my greens and season up the pot again, onion and garlic powder, cayenne, black pepper and a teaspoon of sugar to cut the slight bitterness that mustard greens can have. Taste for salt et voila. Pro hack: If I have a turnip, I’ll peel it and cube it, goes into the pot about 20 minutes before the greens are done. OMG 😊 SO GOOD!

Those mustard greens were beautifully planted in raised beds with black plastic making best use of the winter sun. Take the bugs as a compliment; those were the healthiest, most beautiful greens! Can relate on harvesting and going directly to the pot--even city dwellers can get that feeling with onion tops or herbs in pots, as you said. Well done!

Good looking Greens. Glad you grew them yourself, and organically. I like collard , mustard and turnip greens, but like mixed green as well. I like pepper style vinegar, or vinegar and a little hot sauce. I think someone mentioned, you could be in big trouble, if you served greens without cornbread, I'm sure that's right. Nicely Done. Thanks for sharing. 😎.

They are delicious. If you want them northern style, use only a cup of chicken broth to cook them for 30 minutes or so. And serve with northern cornbread. They are just as good, either way, north or south.

Yas sah! Good ole stewed mustard greens are lip smakers. These are also unbelievably good when lacto fermented, stem and all, in a salt brine and whatever spices (if any) you want. Same method as for fermented dills. They go good in soups, stews, egg dishes, salads, salsas, burritos, chimichangas etc. I could keep the list going to fill the page. You get the Idea:)

Grandmaw always put a couple of glugs of vinegar in the wash water for the greens. She said it killed the bugs better. I've always been told that if you serve greens without cornbread, a special police force will come & arrest you. I've never tested it.
