My dad didn't want me to ride because he and my brother were dirt bikers... So because I couldn't do wheelies and jumps he said I'd kill myself. I just went out and took an MSF course, aced it, and got my bike. I'm an adult. I also would ride smart like Dan Dan preaches.

Wife tried reverse psychology. We're talking and I mention that I would like to start riding again. Hadn't since I was a teenager. She thought she was being slick and said, "ok, if that's what you want to do" I didn't skip a beat. Went to an MSF course to refurb the skills and bought the bike the week after. Showed her! :) Yes, she gets nervous, but she is still supportive. I guess I'll keep her around for ANOTHER 30 years.

You need to take good care of her. 30 yo is quite an age for a motorcycle. ❤

At the end of the day, you're an adult. You can respect your family's wishes to a point, but at the end of the day, you shouldn't live your life on anyone's terms but your own.

I’m from Long Island New York. Let me tell you. I’ve been ridding for 14 years different kinds of motorcycles. Atvs, dirt bikes, and street bikes. Never again will I ride on the street. I was going straight on a road. Had a double yellow line in the middle. Some guy was making a left turn. He didn’t see me and tboned me. I flew on his property. My bike and I were 15 ft apart from eachother. He broke my Pelvis, my right femur, my left hip, and gave me a foot drop. I was reasonably devastated because this was totally out of my control. I’m so sad because Ridding was my life. My bike was my best friend. He completely totaled us. Now a days people don’t pay attention on the road. I’m 23, all the parts he broke are now with metal.

The hardest thing about convincing someone of your riding is very difficult when that person has seen a loved one die in an accident that was of someone else’s poor judgment. This was the case for my mother. I could buy and repair motorcycles but not ride, now she’s gone, I’m now left carrying that guilt of going against her wishes.

*insert Rocky meme* If I die, I die. Jokes aside, I agree if they give you an ultimatum, it's a toxic relationship Riding is more fun and less dangerous than living in a toxic relationship

Not really... I got a $2000 bike. And about $500 in gear. I rode that bike for almost 10 years and only put a new chain and sprockets on it once, and a few pairs of tires. Plus oil. It's expensive if you want to have a flashy bike and flashy gear.

Ok.. if you have the gear no problem. Here's my point to new riders.. the right gear costs money.. don't forget that.. I hope we agree on that. Cheers
