How to Convert Guillow's Cessna 170 to R/C - Full Build Video

Ғылым және технология

This is full time lapse of building a 24 in Guillow’s Cessna 170 Balsa Kit. I used a 6 ch receiver, brushless 180 size motor 2 cell battery. I added 3mm LED lights for strobe, nav, and beacon. I used a wheel kit from the UMX Timber from Horizon Hobby. I covered it with White Ultra Coat. The Decals where included in the kit. I needed to purchase very minimal balsa wood for modifications. I will be using my Spektrum DX6 controller to fly.

    I love this model. It was the first I ever built as a kid; what a mess that was with no mentor. I built it a couple of times since with better results. As I was watching the nice video, my black cat was on the desk demanding attention, so I got a real kick out of seeing your black kitty helping you build. Nice job on the model, b.t.w.

    very nice! I did the same strengthening of the connection between the 2 half-wings. but really, the weakest point of the entire structure is the connection of the wings to the top of cabin. Mine broke quickly, had to beef it up with lots of extra wood.

    Hello, Troy. A very detailed and well done build. You can get Wireless NAV, Beacon, and Strobe Lights now. It's very cheap as well as a package. It would reduce weight, since it doesn't require the heavy wires leading out to the wing tips. I thought I'd tell you that. This is the definition of outstanding, my favorite type of model is a flying model that also doubles as a display model (lights, flaps, doors etc). I'm going to record my first build, it's the kit 1005 guillows Hellcat.

    if the model were 50% larger you could get away with adding all that extra weight. Wing loading is just too high to carry lights, wires, flap servo and the heavier covering material. You really did a nice building job though --- beautiful model!. Try again keeping it much lighter and you will be rewarded.

  • @TroyMcMillan

    @TroyMcMillan

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes you can definitely convert it also just be carful with adding to much wight. If I were to do it again I would not add the lights, flaps and use different material to cover it to save wight. Just add rudder elevator and use tissue paper to cover it and it will fly really good. My build was a bit too heavy. Cheers
