For anyone who does this make sure your channels are set right otherwise your wifi networks will try to talk over each other. 2.4 channels if you are using two extenders should be 1, 6, and 11. 5 ghz had weird channels so I would suggest looking it up.

Something to note, devices connected to Google Home will act goofy. Your devices will only show as connected to the base router, however if your phone moves and connects to the access point router, Google home will show none of your devices as being connected because the devices are connected to the base router and you no longer are despite still having a wifi connection to the same SSID

One thing to think about is making sure the radio channels are isolated from each other and not in possible conflict with neghbors wifi radio channels. For me, the main wifi is on CH6, mesh adapter is on CH1 and the wifi repeater on CH9.

Not sure what you mean. Like a router with no wifi, and then a separate recommendation for access points? Unifi products seem to be pretty good, I have one of their "nano" access points and am very happy with it. For a router, I use an Untangle Z4 but unifi edgerouters are apparently good too. All those are more enterprise grade products though and are not very easy to set up.

An easier and more simpler way to get faster Wi-Fi in a different area or room which is what I did for my bedroom is to buy a Wi-Fi extender that has a ethernet port on it and connect it wirelessly to your main Wi-Fi then take your old router and plug it into your Wi-Fi extender and from there your old router will act as a second router then you can also have your gaming consoles hard wired instead of using Wi-Fi by plugging them into your old router

Guys, this is not a joke video. In the wireless repeater mode, the router just detects the internet signal and amplifies it so that other devices can get a proper signal. In the wired extender mode, the router gets the internet signal on the WAN port and broadcasts it just like a normal router, but in a different room where the signal from the main router isn't powerful enough.

Just hook up an Ethernet cable (RJ45) from one of the multiple LAN ports of main router to the 2nd router's LAN ports (NOT the one that is different color than others or spaced apart) and turn off DHCP in that 2nd router. Leave other settings as it is or reset it and turn DHCP off. Thats how I use my Dlink (as master) and TP-Link (slave)routers on two different floors.

This may be a stupid question: Does my old router have to be plugged into the modem or this to work?

All router settings are accessed by the PC . Does that mean if the router is located in the middle of the house the PC will need to be there too?

Another YT'er specified that a wired extender should be assigned a different operating channel, so to avoid conflicts and interference. He said 1,6,11 were far enough apart to avoid overlap. Is this true? Would have been nice if you gave it 15 seconds of coverage in the video to avoid questions like this. My situation: workshop 50' from house. I want an extender AND a wired connection 90' from my router. I have a Victony WA1200 extender connected. Instructions clear as mud, but only address repeater mode. Switches exist for AP, Router, Repeater. It has 2 ports on the bottom. wan/lan and lan. Will my phone switch seamlessly. Do I need same channel or different channel. Can I service PC's off the lan connection, or will I have to unplug my cat5e from the Victony and plug in into the computer to service PC's? I have about 10hrs research so far, and no clear resolution. I know once I disable DHCP, I wont be able to access the menu anymore- so I want to do it right. Hate to throw away $60 and all that work for nothing. Sorry so Whiny and wordy. Maybe you have another video you can point to to help. Thanks!

Nice succinct video. I have a 3 story house (downstairs basement, main and upper). I have a finished room in basement, adjacent to the unfinished part where my modem resides. My router and PC are in my upstairs office in the center of the house, connected to the modem via ethernet (my only ethernet run). My media room is above my finished basement room. The wifi signal coming from upstairs is sketchy in my finished room in the basement, two floors down. Would you put the newer router in the basement and older router in the upstairs office or vice versa? Important to me is streaming content via wifi from my PC to my media room (which works in my current setup), along with getting better wifi to the basement room. I want to try using my old router but if that doesn't work I'll consider running more ethernet or go to moca. Thanks for any help.
