    The Live 2 is a beast hardware wise. Having more outputs is something I could use live for sure. However internally they are essentially the same. The Live has more sounds onboard though. But every sound in the Live is available for the MPC One. And I love the form factor of the One. More buttons, smaller footprint etc. Bluetooth in my experience introduces latency. Great for listening but not for creating music. If you plan on making beats in the park, feel outlets are a hassle, need additional outputs, usb ports etc then the Live is the way to go. If you don't need those things much of its capability will go unused. So the One would be the way to go.

Also, I tend to have arp sync issues when syncing to ext sequencers; like the arp playing behind the beat a little and even eventually falling off tempo sometimes. Would you recommend anything. Hi from France Darrick, I hesitate between the MPC ONE and Korg Nautilus only for the recording and sequencing capabilities. I am not a "Beat maker", but rather a composer of jazzy style, funki, and also orchestral music (Logic and orchestral libraries) . I have an RD 2000, Korg Wavestate, Yamaha EX5 and a MODX. I'd like to make everyone work together and do without the Mac. Does the MPC One support a lot of midi tracks without saturation. I saw in your videos that a sequence could contain up to 128 midi tracks, that seems too good to be true without a bug?... But that's better than 16 on a regular workstation. The choice is difficult. A big thank you for your work and your very clear explanations, you have talent. take care of yourself Patrick

  • @darrickkeels6387

    @darrickkeels6387

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes there are several advantages. The first major one is the MPC allows you to edit your MIDI data via a piano roll. There is no way to edit your notes with the Montage/MODX. If you make a mistake you have to do another take. One major reason why people use MIDI instead of audio when recording is because you can make such edits. Well you can't with the Yamaha. The MPC gives you 128-tracks vs 16 in the Yamaha. So I could use one drum kit from the Montage but record it using several different tracks. The snare,kick, cymbals, tambourine, shaker etc can all be assigned their own tracks without the fear of running out of tracks. The MPC lets me incorporate audio into my workflow. I can trigger audio samples of any kind i.e vocals, bass lines played on a real bass, etc. These can play simultaneously alongside the Montage. I can take advantage of all of the sounds in the MPC. I can finalize my tracks by converting everything to audio and save it on a hard drive, flash drive, SD card etc using the MPC as well. So that I can take tracks with me without needing to have the keyboard present. Once converted to audio I can take advantage of the MPC's effects architecture. The limitations of only having two insert effects, and two masters is a limitation of the Montage but not the MPC. The Yamaha limits you to 256 bar loops. The MPC allows linear recording up to 999 measures. The MPC has multiple levels of undo/redo vs one in the Yamaha. Originally MPC stood for "MIDI Production Center." It now means Music Production Center. In short, the MPC is a full-featured sequencer and sampler. The Montage is a synthesizer with great sounds. The sequencer in the Montage was an afterthought only implemented because people complained about the lack of one. But Yamaha did not implement a full sequencer inside just a quick "scratch pad." It's good for getting musical ideas down quickly. But if you want in depth music production it's simply not the right tool to use alone.

    @@darrickkeels6387 Thank you very much!!! Really appreciate you taking the time to answer my question. Exactly what I was looking for. This sort of in-depth information is hard to come by - before actually buying the involved products. On a sidenote - I remember, the sequencer of the Motif was pretty powerful, though.

    It really is plug and play. Plug your keyboard in and select the keyboard in the menu of the MPC One. But I was setting up clock sync settings, setting up a separate metronome track, ensuring the arpeggiator settings would record properly with the MPC One...yeah those things take more setup. It would be the same process to set up those things using the 5-pin MIDI as well

    @@darrickkeels6387 I need coaching on how to add a second sound from the MODX into the sequence. I also need coaching on how to save the audio from the midi. Every time I save and try to create a mp3 the midi sounds are muted from the mp3. If you can coach to these issues. Let me know how we can link up. I have access to zoom and google hangouts.

    I still for the life of me do not understand why Yamaha shot itself in the foot by not including a real sequencer in Montage. I do not want to carry around a computer in order to be able to make music.

    This is because most professional producers use DAWs for producing. And majority of them no longer use traditional workstations in their workflow. So Yamaha made the decision to produce a powerful synth that works better in conjunction with DAWs and a more modern setup. The majority of their business comes from live performers nowadays. From a business perspective, those who are used to recording everything on a hardware sequencer or Workstation are aging. I remember watching my uncle program his Korg M1 in 1988. My uncle is now in his mid-sixties. Yamaha (and others) must consider the needs and workflows of a younger generation (younger than me) if they want to still be relevant 20 years from now. So many analog synth manufacturers went out of business because they failed to innovate and produce digital equipment when it was the "new" thing all the young people were in to. They saw it as a fad. It wasn't. And powerful digital gear was more affordable and offered so much more flexibility and capabilities than the only analog gear did. Hmmm...sounds familiar. Sounds like modern day DAWs and plugins. More flexibility, capabilities and affordability.

    @@darrickkeels6387 Again, for my needs, and for following the inspiration where it would take me, I do not want - and cannot be tethered - to a computer. An "instrument," by definition, is *one* thing, with which I am able to do what I want. For me, that is a workstation. And Roland understood that, which is why, four years or so after the Montage, they came out with a Fantom that has one of the most transparent and usable sequencer on board of all synths on the market. And I am telling Yamaha, as a user and potential client, that the lack of that feature is THE major thing stopping me from choosing Montage. Whether or not they care, that is a different story - but the later introduction of sequencer-simulacra with the Montage updates showed that they have heard this over, and over again. Fantom showed the way, as far as I am concerned.
