Which port on the camera and what kind of cable did you use? I can't even get my a6600 to show up in the imaging edge app

Wow! Great video, I didn't know you could connect with Lightroom and I learned that here thank you! However, for me, my images come up quicker using a tethering cable than with the app. I appreciate that it is free but I can't change my workflow...yet.

Wow. Thank you. I just decided to buy Capture One, just because this is utterly stupid, and I am highly technical. But even that, this is working. I am not sure who to blame, but either Sony or Adobe should be ashamed.

Thanks for watching! Unfortunately, you can't set up the tethering settings to automatically convert the files to DNG as they come into Lightroom. You would have to convert them manually after you finish your shoot by selecting all the photos and manually exporting them using the preset that converts them to DNG. But then you would have to import those DNG files into Lightroom if you want to edit them. The Imaging Edge app nor the camera allow you to change the file type to a DNG file as the photos are taken either.

Thanks for the work around but i didnt need to go to the LRC tether step. I just shoot pics and it auto imports from that folder after viewer saves the raws into there. It had a 10 second lag but Im shooting 60 mp files. Thanks

hi do you have any idea if it is posable somehow connect the camera to wifi and access the sd card from windows\linux os? i have an a7s3 and i can't find any info about how to wirelessly transfer files from the a7s3 to my file server.....

Hi, I'm having trouble with the actual tethering to Lightroom. I succeeded in connecting my A7IV to my pc using Imaging Edge (I do have to restart my macbook ever time I connect my camera to my macbook) but once tethering in Lightroom it keeps on loading at "Detecting camera...". You do say this takes a while, but could it take more than 15 minutes? My A7IV is fully updated to the latest firmware.

find a setting in the import menu based around the option for "Import with Develop preset"

I just used my sony a6400 and it works fine.

Thanks, Desiree! When you say it may take "awhile" for LR to detect the camera, how long is that? I'm at 8 minutes and counting. I read somewhere else to be sure your memory card is reformatted and there aren't a lot of photos on it, so I've done that, and still no connection yet on my second try following your steps exactly! Any other tips?

It shouldn't take more than a few minutes. I've noticed sometimes if it's been a few minutes and I take a photo in the Imaging Edge app while it says it's still trying to find the camera the photo comes into Lightroom anyway since it's watching the folder where the photos are going into. It might be some bug in Lightroom that shows it's still trying to connect when it already has a connection.

Cool video. It seems very very annoying to do this work around lol. I think if the sole purpose is just to view the photo on the larger screen, it might be fine just using the image app. And importing to Lightroom later for editing. Does that sound correct?

You could do that as well. This is just eliminating that extra step of importing afterwards since you're not able to directly connect Sony cameras to Lightroom for tethering as you can with Nikon and Canon cameras.

@@DesireeRodriguez yea it worked out for client viewing! Except I didn't really notice where the images were saving, and they were not saving on the card, when tethered. When we started day 2 I almost died! I couldn't find all of day 1. But I found the default folder. I need to find the setting that also saves to the card. Thanks for the video still!

Yes if you have either the Sony a7 IV, a7R V, ZV-E1, ZV-1F and it's updated to the latest firmware you will have to download and use Sony's new Creator app. At the moment this app is only available on mobile and not on PC so you won't be able to connect it to Lightroom on a computer.

There's actually an option in the settings to disable showing previews in viewer so that annoying window doesn't keep popping up.

8:49 how long did it take for Lightroom Classic to detect camera? Mine has been detecting for awhile now.

Anybody having an issue with Sony Imaging Edge software Desktop crashing on MAC? I want to tether my A7S II but it crashed upon start up. Any advice would be great.

:( my sony edge app see's my sony a7r5 but wont connect to it. its so frustrating because the a7r5 works instantly with capture 1 or capture 1 ipad app with no issues but try and get this tether shooting on lightroom is a no go for me and google searches have no fixes :(

Previously it used to work fine on a Sony A6400 to a Macbook, but now it connects for 1 second and then disconnects itself every time. Is there a way to solve the problem?

Yes you can connect it with the USB cable that comes with the camera. If your Macbook only has UBS-C ports then you will need a USB-A to USB-C adapter.

Question… Is it necessary to use the Sony Imaging app? For some reason it won’t recognize my camera (A7Riv), and it’s kinda frustrating. I can tether just fine through Light Room. Are there any drawbacks to just bypassing the Sony app?

If you don't use the Imaging app Lightroom won't recognize a Sony camera that's connected to the computer. If you don't want to use the Imaging app you can use Smart Shooter since it also connects to Lightroom as well and it's a simpler connection. But it's a paid app whereas the Imaging app is free.

Sometimes it might have a connection with Lightroom when it still says it's connecting. Try to start a capture session to see if it sees the camera. If you have any cloud storage apps make sure they are all closed before starting the connection since that will interfere with it.

Do you have to use the shutter button in the Imaging Edge app or can you use the shutter button on the camera and still have it copy the photos to your computer?

You can use the shutter button on the camera too. As long as it's connected it should send the photos to your computer.

Capture One is able to wirelessly tether to an A7iv using WiFi just fine since at least version 22. Why can't Lightroom do it natively yet? Why the silly Imaging Edge workaround?

How long does it take for Lighroom to detect the camera? It's taking a while for me.

Sometimes the message window says it's still detecting but it's actually connected. This happens to me as well. You can take a photo to see if it comes through. If it does and it still says it's detecting then just minimize it and start your shoot. I think it might be some type of bug in Lightroom.

is there any way to upload the photos at same time..how to use internet at same time??

In Lightroom you can turn on the sync box that's next to the collection your photos are going into. Then you can open Lightroom mobile on another device and see those photos as they are coming in.

If you have either a Sony A7IV, A7RV, or ZV-E1 that's been updated to the latest firmware you will need to use Sony's Creator app which is available on mobile at the moment. The Imaging Edge app won't detect those cameras anymore once they have been updated.

I've tried to fix the basic problem, reset the camera, deleted the program, and reinstalled, but still can't connect.

Yes as long as the PC + Camera option under Image save destination in the PC Remote Function settings is turned on.

It might be the firmware version. If you have version 2.0 or later installed on your camera the Imaging Edge app doesn't find the camera anymore. You would have to use the Creator app which is available for the phone or tablet.

It sucks when you have latest camera and we pay lightroom and yet they don't have a seamless tether experience both sony mirrorless and lightroom. Breaks my heart.

Sony obviously killed the Imaging Edge Desktop software. You cannot download and install it anymore (tried 15/05/2023).
