FYI it's not uncommon for cEDH games to end in a finite combat step these days. Stax is *very* common/popular in the current meta. It's not rare to see groups of derpy hate bears end the game since others are unable to perform their combos due to the myriad of stax pieces.

I would put this to every deck of mine that's not graveyard centric itself or black for bojuka bog. It's so easy to include. For graveyard decks it's soulguide lantern. Voila, every deck has grave covered by at least a card! Ghost also quarter goes to every deck except 4/5 color that needs all the colors and has chaos warp and beast within/generous gift anyway to kill that problem land.

When you mentioned gravecrawler, carrion feeder and rooftop storm for a loop. It is infinite but is greatly improved using acererak the archlich. It replaces gravecrawler and carrion feeder as well as is the win condition. Changes the '4' card combo into only 2.

Cedh decks that win with combat damage. Some better than others. 1. Winota, Joiner of Forces 2. Pako/Haldan Partners 3. Tymna/Kamahl stax bears 4. Ishai/Jeska Partners 5. maybe krenko (never played against him) That’s pretty much it. There’s lots of Cedh decks that attack/ do combat damage to get a high upside. But the decks listed above use combat damage as their main strategy.

I would argue that pako/haldan fits with Narset(in casually powerful decks), it's infinite turns/combats by flipping from the top. In cedh, it gains better counters and ramp off the opponents and itself. I wouldn't say it's *main* wincon is combat. I'd say it's infinite combats. Like Godo.

thoracle consult can also be stopped by instant speed forced card draw and after their library is empty, or if their graveyard is bigger than their devotion to blue, endurance their graveyard into their library after consultation resolves too. both are super specific and not as open ended as countering the spell, but it's something you can do outside of blue

Oh man, I haven't watched the video yet but as someone who has played artifacts, combos and esper religiously have I such glorious things to tell you. Thassa's and consultation blah blah blah. Let's skip to the good stuff, Rest in Peace/Dauthi Voidwalker/Leyline of the Void and Energy field or Helm of Obedience makes it so you can't take damage from opponents or helm mills everyone out since things can never hit the graveyard. Smothering tithe, windfall, and revel and riches sets you up for a win and access to a lot of mana. If you're in a good position you're in the best colors for removal with wrath effects so you don't NEED smothering tithe. Urza, I don't need to say anything about. Emry, Lurker of the lock is an amazing commander I overlooked until I built it for a friend. It is just simply good recursion but it also combos with intruder alarm, an artifact creature and blasting station, it also goes infinite with Mirran spy, lotus petal, urza's/mishra's bauble and lab man or something along those lines. She also combos with aetherflux and while you're at it throw in dramatic isochron and what the heck throw narset's reversal in your deck and any extra turn spell. Narset's imprinted under isochron to return an extra turn spell to your hand each turn and get a copy of it means you basically have infinite turns.

    @mightyone37372 жыл бұрын

This does help reinforce the importance of instant speed interaction at higher level tables. Most combos worth using there are used there because they are easy to assemble in one turn, and you won't have time to use sorcery speed. Dramatic Scepter also flops hard to bounce, flicker, etc anything that that forces the Scepter to forget what it exiled will ruin the combo. It's low enough to the ground that it's easy to win on the spot, but instant speed interaction of any kind will probably interrupt things, which helps explain why it's used in mono-blue so much at higher levels. Heliod/Ballista really needs to be a combo that works the turn you cast it, it's really open to interaction. If you use the combo in a Zur deck, it has a big upside in that most competitive leaning decks run way less countermagic that hits creatures, so if Zur cheats out Heliod, not only does it save mana/find half your combo, it also makes the combo much harder to interact with. It's big weaknes is it's 6 mana set up cost, which is a ton of mana to hold up. Exquisite Blood is also considerably easier to make playable compared to Sanguine Bond, and is more likely to warrant removal anyways I find. Oracle is a very good card, but Tainted Pact is a much stronger card than Consultation, if only because Pact works as an actual tutor, where Consultation is a zero-versatility combo piece. Oracle has weaknesses to various colours, White (and Blue haha) have Rule of Law to make the combo uncastable, Black and Red can both burn you at instant speed easily (and by running cards that are already playable) while Green can also manage it, with the downside of it requiring bad cards, Green is good at recycling graveyards, and Blue/Black can force people to draw cards, as can Artifacts to an extent. You can also remove enough Devotion that they just can't win, Cyclonic Rift does a good job of this, but in many cEDH games you might need to kill 2 creatures (Oracle and a Commander) to get their devotion to 0. The best interaction I still say is Rule of Law, because it just turns off almost every playable combo at higher levels. Gravecrawler has a nice resiliency to it in some combos, since it can recur itself as long as you've got a zombie, not unlike Haakon. I'm thinking of adding Gravecrawler to my Meren Haakon deck, but I don't have very much zombies, so we'll see if it stays in. The deck can easily go infinite with it, but I think Haakon/Universal Automaton is a bit better. I honestly didn't love the original art for this, but there is the Drop art, I think I can Vorthos with that a bit, a thing my Meren deck is all-in on. As an add on to Haakon vs Gravecrawler, Haakon can reanimate any knight, and some of them have good abilities and aren't just a body, Liliana's Standard Bearer feels really really good if you end up drawing more than 10 cards in a game off of a couple casts. Critical Mass is a fun way to play, I like doing it with Simic in Tatyova. Some of the set ups are turn 3 capable (the deck doesn't run any rocks atm), but the deck usually wins by just dumping enough pieces out that eventually go infinite and win. I set it up so that if it actually goes infinite, it's very, very hard to lose, so it's a pretty fun deck, often winning closer to turn 8, just fast enough to be relevant in higher power formats, but not usually so fast that it can't play against casual (it hates aggro). The big flaw in the deck is the inconsistency of drawing into a dork that puts lands into play, if that doesn't happen the deck can end up feeling absolutely awful. Moonfolk Flood is the worst thing that can happen to the deck, and if you draw only that, it feels terrible. Sakura Tribe Scout is a sick card even if you aren't able to combo off with it, while Moonfolk tend to feel like bad cards unless you have at least 1 Land Into Play dork, ideally you'd want 2 or more. AFAIK, there are 6 really good 'tap to put a land in' options in Simic, and while that's a lot, it's not actually that many in a 99 card singleton deck, you've got to see on average ~16 cards before you see one, which is part of why the deck ends up winning turns 6-8 pretty often, it's seen enough cards to have found all the parts, because it runs a similar number of bounce and untap effects. Not having Haste makes this a bad combo I must admit, if I draw into the LIP dork last, I have to wait a turn *with it out* and just whistle innocently until my next upkeep. I had a really weird dream way back, I more or less had a ~2 hours long dream that was like VR space experience, like I was living in a hard sci-fi future. Better than the various nightmares that show up now and then anyways.

you can also do the demonic consultation combo in mono blue, but it's sorcery speed. Paradigm shift is a sorcery for 1U (2 mana) that says "Exile all cards from your library. Then shuffle your graveyard into your library." if you do this on turn 2 or 3 you only have paradigm shift in there, meaning the devotion to blue is higher = you win.

One of my favourites that goes infinite at the drop of a hat is Necrotic Ooze. Necrotic Ooze on the field with Triskelion/Walking Ballista in the grave with Phyrexian Devourer is a non-infinite combo that often kills. Necrotic Ooze with Pili-Pala and Palladium Myr in the grave also goes infinite, Walking Ballista could be in grave or hand, as long as Ooze doesn't have summoning sickness. Sub out the Necrotic Ooze in either of these combos with Trazyn the Infinite, or with Myr Welder and some extra mana to start up activations, and you've got the game. That's a good 8 cards that go infinite in some combination, that are easy to splash into a deck that cares about the graveyard/artifacts and has access to black (6 cards if you're just colourless - cut the Ooze and Trazyn).

The game ending thing is true but there have been plenty of times that I simply wanted to find combos that will simply let me get ahead in the game so that I can build a more optimized frack that can handle more situations but all that is out there is the narrow definition “infinite combos” whenever I try to find stuff in the internet and it’s annoying. Honestly infinity is kind of easy. If you build a 7-10 deck small combos pop up wherever if you play cards in the right order. The smallest of which is a playing a spell that is triggered by the next spell you would play and that next spell is triggered by what the original did. That way you simply get more value out of the cards as opposed to the opposite order which would do nothing. Maybe I just wanna go 3 to 10 lands in a turn. I once made an infinite combo with Aetherworks marvel that let me cast every black spell in my deck if I wanted to. I took it out of the deck because it made playing the deck less fun.

A good time to deal with Isochron Scepter is with the Imprint ability on the stack. If you can destroy it then they lose the scepter. Or, if you can afford to give them 1 untap, do it with the untap ability on the stack. Then, even if they can get the Scepter back the Imprinted card is exiled forever.

My favorite way to interact with Thoracle is to make them draw a card while their deck is empty and orcle's ability is on the stack. Mikokoro and Geier reach sanitarium are amazing for this as they need to be stifled and people often forget they're on the board. And Thoracle doesn't have a clause to win with a draw on an empty deck like lab maniac. But consultation always completely empties the deck.

Karmic guide can be sacrificed to a black permanent. Protection-can't be damaged or *Targetted* by a black permanent. Most sacrifice(I hesitate to say *all* with mtg. XD), doesn't say 'target'. Just says 'sacrifice a creature'. Since it doesn't target, Karmic is good to be sacrificed. Protection is weird. It's why most people get confused by Progenitus dying to Wrath of God.

A question for the combo of The Locust God + Sage of the falls, if you don't have say Thassa's Oracle or Jace, Wielder of Mysteries, would you just lose to drawing out your deck and having no other cards to draw before you can go to combat? Or can you stop the combo since Sage of the falls text states, "you may draw..."?

Personal favorite, infinite mana with silver and pladium myr, myr galvanizer and a clone. Add memnarch and steal everything. Takes five cards but it’s so worth it. Tap pladium and silver to make three mana, two colorless and a blue. Tap one of your myr galvanizer for one and untap you other myr and do it again, gaining a blue and a colorless each time. Once you have infinite you can pay your memnarch activation and first turn everything into artifacts and then activate the second ability and steal everyone’s permanents. It’s a little bit janky but always my favorite to pull of, especially if your opponent has never seen it.

My way to deal with Thassa's Oracle/Demonic Consultation, is to have a land like Geier Reach Sanitarium that causes everyone to draw a card. Then you let them exile their library, and before the Oracle's ability resolves you activate the land and make them draw a card, causing them to lose the game.

Umbral mantle needs to be countered or stopped before being equipped. Untapping the creature is part of the cost of the activated ability of umbral mantle. If you use a mana producing creature (priest of Titania, selvala explorer returned, etc), you can retain priority and continue stacking umbral mantle triggers while repeatedly gaining mana from the creature. Your opponents will not be able to respond until you decide to pass priority for the umbral triggers (equipped creature gains +2/+2 until end of turn) to resolve.

I play cEDH, and can verify that there are combat wins, but only for very specific decks (usually stax). I've lost count of the number of times I've just won by locking down the board and beating people up with Kenrith, or Elesh Norn and a bunch of dorks. Amusingly enough, once three to four combo decks are all tuckered out and burned through all of our interaction and win conditions, it really just devolves into a battle of beatsticks.

My favorite current combo is with command the dread horde. First I need at least 3 creatures in my gy that have "when a creature enters the battlefield you gain 1 life" and 3 creatures with "when you gain life, opponent lose 1 life". If I dreadhorde just those 6 creatures, that is 54 damage. I'm sure my opponents will have creatures in their graves so with just a few more creatures targeted, I blow away the table.

@@NitpickingNerds For sure! It just can be confusing for new players/deck builders like I was at the time. I did also want to say that I think your definition of combos is great. Turn 2: drop land and play Jeska from commandzone and tripple the DMG on Ishai than play Kediss from your hand and attack. GG :)
