The trail leading to top of Eigen Crater will just send goosebumps down the most adrenaline guys and View from the top has to bestest Natural wonders of the Wold. I was due to visit it before Covid had other plans 🙄

I was there at ijen. My tour, seeing my buddy wouldn't make it down to the crater and all the way back up, suggest that we just go up. Hiking all the way to the top, at 4am, just me and my 4 buddies with another guide, is in itself a very spiritual journey. It was pitch black except for our torches, and we were just ascending up this barren land higher and higher, while looking up at the sky, while enjoying the view - at night. Not to mention being the first to catch the glimpse of sun rise. Would definitely do that again. But one of my friend is married, so won't be joining us again. =(

I just came back from east java and climbed Ijen last week! I actually skipped the blue fire because it was dangerous climbing down plus i do not have the best stamina, so thanks to your video I got to see it on screen :) I agree that the view of the blue lake at the top of the crater was magnificent!! So just as your gf mentioned, starting the hike after the sunrise is a good choice if you're not into the blue fire. I wouldn't mind going back again!

Super useful, thanks. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. How far up one should climb if wants to take off with a drone safely, to record the crater and lake? (I might not want to climb all the way up) It's a Mavic 2, so bad connection and distance should not be an issue) Do the miners work during the day? (I'd like to see the mining but as per your wise recommendation, I would refrain from going there at night) Thanks for the answer 😎

Glad we could help! Not sure about drone usage during the ascent. You'll have to play that by ear once there. If you go in the early morning when there is light out you should be able to see the miners still but you won't be able to see the blue flame

We booked it through the hotel we stayed in for the night (see link in the description). It's not uncommon for the surrounding hotels to all have people/companies that they can arrange same day/night. Hope this helps 😃

What tour did you book with?

You're missing alot if you don't explore Banyuwangi and its surrounding, that area is full of natural wonders. Banyuwangi is a municipality that covers almost all of the eastern coast line of Java island that's facing Bali, there's at least half dozen waterfall, two national parks (Meru Betiri and Baluran), at least two mountain trails, about 5 natural beaches, one of them is the famous G-Land

Well there are some spots in the world where u can see the blue flames, But only one place where u can see the eternal blue flames, and it’s in Ijen. I think that’s why Ijen is more unique than the other spots

4-5 if you are pushing it. 6-7 for a more leisurely approach

I am planning a trip to Bali next year and this is one of the places I would really like to go. I am not that much of a hiker. So someone who is not experienced in hiking, how is this? Do you recommend?

You can pay for the cart ride .. They pull you up with cart for 2 hours

Average between 5-12 dollars/day, lets say equal to Rp 168.000 right now Per month would be around Rp 4.500.000 (Comparison with factory operator wage = Rp 4.700.000) For food and drink 3 times/day = 20000 rupiah, so per month Rp 600.000 (This shows living cost in Banyuwangi is cheap) For rent/housing lets say = Rp 700.000 Electricity = Rp 200.000 Miscelanneous (family allowance average) = around Rp 2.000.000 You still saving Rp 1.000.000 though per month = Rp. 12 million a year, equal to a motorcycle price here XD But thank you for your visit in Kawah Ijen, Indonesia, I'm indonesian and even haven't visit to Ijen yet XD Maybe soon.....

Yes its true it just take 3,5 hours drive to west, hope u back and explore more, maybe straight to central java from bromo to see boeobodur temple the biggest budhist temple in the world and 1 of 7 wonder, also go to candi prambanan hindu temple near by, its epic

Hi Cherise As a locals that meet a lot of people who goes to Ijen, in my opinion is, that your travel team quote to you is in reasonable price. What I will advise to you is that maybe you need prepare yourself stamina to move from one point to another points in your travel plan within 3d2n. Hope you enjoy and have great experiences during your visit.
