I can't believe it, it really worked. My stone (Cozze gas) was way dirtier than yours. I removed everything as good as possible with a steel spatula, but i never thought, that the sucked in stains from the oil and cheese could ever be removed. But it did. Almost as clean and bright as new and way better, than I expected it could get. Thank you very much!

Owning an Ooni is such a process that people don't realize. 1) Not designed to be left outside, so you need storage 2) You need a wooden (launch) AND a metal pizza turning peel AND probably a metal peel to get the pizza out 3) Now I just learned I need a stone cleaning brush. Still... so worth it, but expect to spend an extra $100 after the oven.

I've just used my ooni for the first time. I think you can get away with just the one peel (I used a metal one to launch the pizza and to pull it out slightly so I could turn it). I also didn't bother with the thermometer (I just left the oven for 20mins on full heat).

I’ve lost the handbook however I would totally recommend turning your stone over and around after each cook. I’ve been doing that since my first cook with the Ooni 3 and I’ve used this stone (it’s the ooni 3 stone) since Jan 2018 and it’s kept in good shape - it gives each side an opportunity to burn debris off in turn & that keeps the stone in good stead. The logo side is helpful for laser pointing with the thermometer though!!

this is a simple ceramic plate not a real stone. It would have been easy to make that ceramic a little bit darker. Actually all Italian pizza stoves do not have a white pizza stone. it is everywhere almost black. They just clean the pizza stove to remove moving particles but otherwise they don't clean these stoves. After all, they get so hot that everything is sterilized.

Ehh.. The best Italian ovens are hand made with Terra-cotta (Fired clay) ceramic floors; Biscotto di Sorento. These porous tiles absorb and store heat perfectly without burning the bottom of the pizza at the high temperature Neapolitan pizza’s are baked. The down side of these terracotta tiles that they are very fragile compared to the industrial hard pressed ceramic tiles (Like the cordorite Ooni uses or the Yellow fire brick) You need to clean the oven floor each time burned flower and dough attaches before black ‘soot’ builds up, this is very unhealthy why do You think professional pizzaioli and bakers often sweep the chimney, scrub their floors with bronze brooms metal scrapers and clean with damp cloth’s? because soot is cancerous!

@@keesjanhoeksema9575 as long as it is swept up, there is no need to clean this. Continued cooking will keep this clean and any debris will be burned away. Sweep away any particles or ash before laying pizza down and your fine. This type of stone will naturally darken over time and will become even almost non stick. Just leave it be.

I wish I read this before... Tried to use Ooni yesterday for the first time, made a real mess out of it, it stuck to the stone despite much semolina.... I've been soaking the stone in the soapy water and it did not make any difference. What shall I do now? Dry the stone and try to heat it up? Thank you!

Hi! The first thing you’ll need to do is get all the soap out of the stone so give it a really good rinse - the stone easily absorbs all the soap! When that’s done- if you live in a nice hot climate, leave the stone to dry naturally - could take some time! Or use a low heat setting in your electric oven for the time it takes until it’s thoroughly dry. If you use the stone and it’s damp, the stone will crack in your pizza oven due to the high heat. So going forward try not to wet it and only burn the debris off instead! 👍🏻🔥🍕

I think as long as you clean off the burnt particles you're good to go. Just take a dish washing brush and rub it off under the hot water. Saves a lot of time but is of course not as effective as your method

Don't use water, the stone can absorb it and releases that moisture when it heats up. Can impact the quality of your pizza and in the worst case scenario crack your pizza stone.
