    I did the same job today with Carb & Choke Cleaner, not much needed, and a toothbrush and it came clean fast.

    some cars are a pain...the 4 hours probably included getting everything out of the way to remove the valve cover in the first place, cleaning it and then hooking everything back up. This video is only one small step of this job. You also have to clean off the head and make sure you have gotten all debris out, etc. I have to take my wiper motor out, cowl, intake, and a couple other things just to access the valve covers. 4 hours for both sides is reasonable but on some cars could be less.

    You dont use gasket sealer? And, is silicone sealer OK for hot engines?

  • @jameshall2017

    honestly you dont always have to use gasket sealer. it is recommended though. I mean if its on an older car then i probably would.

    @@jameshall2017 Myself I never used gasket sealer. I used good or new gaskets and careful tightening and same with oil pan. But Im referring to older cars. I notice in vids that newer cars all are taking sealer for some reason and thats why i asked.

  • @jameshall2017

    @jameshall2017

    @@cvcoco I can definitely understand the older ones because more wear and tear and they actually sit on the valve cover, but the more modern cars the gaskets are already made better and are probably pressed down inside the seam like this one is. So I personally dont see any use for gasket sealant on modern cars and trucks

  • @cvcoco

    @cvcoco

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@jameshall2017 ok, fair enough. I thought the use on modern engines was because parts arent made very precisely and need all the help they can get. I have a car you dont know and i see many people using sealant for it. I dont, use a new silicone gasket and only finger tight on the cover bolts. No leaking.

  • @jameshall2017

    @@cvcoco I kinda wish they made a silicone gasket for my project truck but with it being an 81 ford I dont know if they do or not. That's actual one of the next things I'm gonna do to it after putting a new master cylinder, calipers and pads is clean the valve cover and re replace the gasket. Cant go wrong with new seals. Especially if you can get to them easily
