I've been using the magic eraser on my KME gold series and it works wonders. I also use it to clean my blades once they get all marked up. Its great for making coated blades look new again. Good info Sir!

Thanks, this is very educational! Now I just got a guided sharpener (the Russian one!) and it comes with some just Ok stones so I was definitely going to get the Venev upgraded ones. And on normal oil stones I always use Buck honing oil so am covered there. However on all my pile of larger 8x3 DMT bench stones I follow the manufacturer instructions and clean with water using a good cleanser like bar keepers friend, and scrubbing with a nylon brush, then dry. Then use water for lubricant during sharpening (the difference of course is that the stone isn’t inverted like here.) I’m glad I saw this because I was going to clean the Venev stones the same way as that’s always done a good job for me. I also noticed that my larger UltraSharp continuous diamond plates recommend sharpening with some stuff called Krud Kutter cleaner/degreaser rather than water, so same principle as the oil I think instead of water. I’ll give this cleaning routine a try. By the way, Andis sells that trimmer oil in a large spray can, make applying it a lot easier. Thanks again. 👍

I did this to my venev stones and when I sharpen the knife my edge seems to me getting scratched more than what it was before and the stone dye is showing on my knife as well. Any tips on how to fix this?

Really looking into getting into Bonded Diamonds soon so this video helps. Thanks man. If you were to buy one set , would you go for CGSW or Venev for the KME?

@@BLADESANDFADESOFFICIAL have you tried the Venev stones ? I used diamonds tonight and like the feel . I tried a f400/800 and realized it wasn’t the grit system so that will be the highest stone . An 80+150 Ursa is coming and a 240 /400 Ursa . But I still have the diamond plates if I don’t like them .

Just make sure if you are using Atoma diamond stones don't use any type of oil. It's will remove the adhesive.

I just bought 3 for my new TSProf Kadet. Glad you commented. Thanks. I learn so much watching all these knife sharpening channels. I have a Tormek but wanted something I could use indoors in winter time to sharpen the wife’s kitchen knives.

Why not just spray your stone while using it with a water bottle and mild soap?

  • @BLADESANDFADESOFFICIAL

1 it drys up from the stone faster and 2 it can cause corrosion when it gets in places you don’t see and leave it there. I thought I said that in the video… 🧐 but it’s better lubrication also = better feedback and less stone wear!

I’ve tried it all trust me! This is the best way I’ve found so far and far superior to water. Plus water is a no no for the majority of the top performing blade steels!

i dont know why 90% of American resist using oil with Venev? 80 to 240 use dry, 400-1500 use oil.. Its 10times better. Not drenched in oil just a drop and it will completely eliminate loading all together🤦‍♂️

I use it with all of them and it works great for me. Thats why I recommend it! You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make them drink! I don’t lose sleep over it, they are just making it more difficult for themselves.
