I read on the instructions for my child's seat (and saw on another cleaning car seats safetly tutorial) to only use a mild soap- I'm guessing to avoid damaging the integrety of the buckles, plastic, etc...Just wondering what is considered mild/non damaging enough?

This is how I clean my Britax Boulevard Clicktight convertible car seat. Cleaning your car seat is super quick &easy whether you have a convertible car seat or an infant car seat. NOTE: WHEN CLEANING YOUR CARSEAT BODY MILD DISH SOAP DILUTED IN WARM WATER IS BEST (I ALSO TRUST THE CLEANING POWER AND GENTLENESS OF MY ALL PURPOSE CLEANER I USE PERSONALLY). ALSO I USED THE HAND WASH SETTING ON MY WASHER AS ITS THE EXACT SAME AS MANUALLY HAND WASHING BUT IF YOU DONT HAVE THAT SETTING THEN MANUALLY HAND WASH. AS ALWAYS CONSULT YOUR MANUAL.

Every time I clean my daughters seat I say the same thing 'no more food in the car' then the very next day she has food in her seat 😂

Just wanted to let you know that Britax actually recommends not locking your belt with the Clicktight system. Also, make sure you unbuckle the seatbelt before opening the Clicktight panel. Those things will help make sure your Clicktight mechanism does not break from too much stress. Also, for anyone who may not know (I realize Elle has addressed this in the description) but Britax also recommends using baby wipes or water and dawn dish soap for cleaning the shell of the seat - no harsh chemicals. And the cover is handwash only. Overall, great demo on how to wash and put everything back together! :) love your videos, Elle!

Alicia Una Ryan my kids seats are much more simple (one single cover each) but I just buy the cheapest seats that fit my kids and meet the safety standards.

What all purpose cleaner do you use, Elle?

Just did my seat the exact same way. Son barfed really bad, not a chance simply wiping down those parts would do, must machine wash. The smell! I also got the belts out but I regretted, I don’t think your supposed to do that, but I did get them back in correctly.

Elle Lindquist I have a question for you. There are a few daily vloggers that I watch. I also follow a few on Instagram as well. I've noticed one in particular where it seems as though people are obsessed with them. These people have Instagram accounts devoted to these vloggers and they take screen shots from the vlogs and post them on these Instagram accounts. Is it just me, or is that not kinda creepy? Would it bother you if people were doing that with your vlogs?

I always hope that things don't go quite that far! I love our community and interacting with everyone, but yes, some vloggers do have quite obsessive followers. I hope we all stay more in the friend-zone on our channel. lol :) :)

I do let my kids eat in the car, there is no way we would make it to grandma and grandpas house 2 hours away otherwise plus I like to eat in the car myself and I don't want to give that up or make a kid specific rule (I try to avoid those). also I finally subscribed! I've been watching your chanel since I got pregnant with my second baby who was born April 2016 and I didn't subscribe because I didn't have an account but I finally made one and plan on making my own videos soon. I don't agree with you on everything and have almost stopped watch a couple times but your videos are addictive and I watch even ones like this when I have cleaned my kids car seats a dozen times, so I will just agree to disagree probably silently and keep watching :)

congrats! depends on if you're looking for a convertible one that'll go from infant to toddler or if you want a bucket one for infant that you can carry and then switch to convertible once they're too big for that. Have to wash a Britax B Safe car seat .... You never had a problem washing on "Hand Wash" on cold . I was going to take it to a Laundry Mat to use there front load washer

Wow - good timing on the video for me. My cat peed on my spare car seat today. Of course I didn't know that until I picked my son up from the babysitter and she told me. #Winning! Unfortunately, I did not see the video until after I put the lining in the wash with hot water. Also, didn't have the forethought to take pictures. I'm just praying my combo of detergent, white vinegar and Natures Miracle will get the smell out. Ugh.

We have a Clicktight as well..just a tip...make sure you unbuckle the carseat before you open the clicktight portion. Opening it before you unbuckle can cause the clicktight system to lock up and break. Be sure the actual car's seatbelt isn't locked when you install it either, that can also break the clicktight. Also Britax covers are handwash only, not sure if the handwash setting on the washing machine is the same as actually just handwashing. That's the one thing I don't like about my Britax..the Chicco and Graco seats you could wash in the washer then just hang dry. If the handwash setting is actually ok that'd be great because ours has one! I've also heard you aren't supposed to use "harsh" cleaners such as all purpose spray or lysol type wipes on the plastic which to me seems kind of silly..I mean it's plastic meant to hold up in crashes I can't imagine those cleaners actually hurt anything. The fabric and harness would be different..but technically techs say not even on the car seats.

The car seat techs I've spoken to (from CSFTL) said that you should actually hand wash and not use the washing machine at all. Just wanted you to know so you don't throw yours in the washer.

I do know with 100% certainty that you should not wipe the straps down with an all purpose cleaner. I don't put all purpose anywhere near my kids seats. An unscented baby wipe is what I use.

Yeah definitely not on the straps. I do the same, just a baby wipe on all of it. Then I do vacuum out the crumbs. We've only had our Advocate a few months so just been spot cleaning it as needed. Our other seats you were allowed to machine wash but really it's not needed often. Mainly just wipe things down with a baby wipe if something is on it

Elle, How do you separate the seat from its base? There is gunk underneath that I need to get out and vacuuming isn't going to get the sticky stuff out!

This particular model is attached to the base but you can lift the seat and clean underneath with the click tight button

Hi Elle great video but a few things you did are not supposed to be done with car seats. And I mean this comment with the upmost respect for you as a mommy, I don't like correcting people but I do want to make sure everyone is using their car seats correctly. First ALWAYS read your manual before cleaning your car seat as they will have specific directions most of the time. And When cleaning the shell of your seat your not supposed to spray any chemicals on it, only mild soaps such and baby soap or dawn dish soap. And for the straps nothing but a damp cloth with only water on it can clean them. And when installing the car seat forward facing no matter what car seat it must be too tethered, and that may you use under your car seats are not supposed to be used either, only if it was made by britax itself. Also I totally suggest to all the mommies out there join the Facebook group "car seats for the littles" I had no idea I was doing so much wrong until that group corrected me and now I have become so crazy when it comes to car seats. Lol anyway I really hope nobody takes this comment wrong. I just want to look out for the health and safety of all the littles out there. 😊

Pro tip: use a bottle brush with the smaller end and bigger end for all the crumbs in crazy nooks and crannies!! (Or vomit, which sadly, I've cleaned out of our car seats at least three times 😫). Why do I love watching someone else clean so much?!? #neatfreakprobs

Britax says to only use “mild detergent” (ie Dawn dish soap or All Free and Clear) so you definitely shouldn’t be spraying cleaner on it. It also says hand wash only, so even though you’re using a “hand wash” setting, it’s not a recommended.

How do you get gunk out of the straps??? Recent car sick baby ☹️and I feel like I can't get the straps fully clean!

they really suggest you don't clean them because it can weaken the straps which you obviously don't want. I think a little MILD dish soap diluted with warm water and spot cleaning should be fine.

Shoes Elle girl, shoes, simple ballet flats or your birkis. I personally love the moccasins and all, but not out side. You risk bringing a million and one icky' into your home.

Steam cleaning would be the best way. Try it out. Buy a cheap one for like $200-500. "200-500 is cheap?!?!?!". Firstly, 200+ degrees will kill all bacteria or viruses better than any cleaner. Secondly, it's safer when you consider using NO chemicals. Lastly, you can use it on your whole car and home . . . Deep in furniture, clothes, toys, bedding, tile grout, in the cracks of sink knobs, faucets, and toilets that even brushes can't reach (wait until you see the "crap" that's been hiding for years), drains, vents, jewelry, you name it. You'll buy half the cleaners you used to (you'll make the money back when not buying cabinets full of cleaning product) and do twice as much actual cleaning, sanitising, virus killing, stain removing, etc, et al, and so on with little to NO chemicals. You can even iron your suits and steam clean dresses, sterilise anything you can think of . . . All with a little water, even distilled water if you want to be extra clean about it. Obviously do some research, there are some cautions and things you can't clean like silk, children, hamsters, ummmm . . . But yea, give it a look see, best wishes.

I do it exactly how she does, britax doesn’t want you to shrink or ruin your car seat fabric so they give you the most fool proof instructions to ensure they don’t have to replace anything, a hand wash cycle cleans it better than hand washing and it’s fine

It’s I’ve been machine washing just like she did for 5+ years. Do you really think taking covers and machine washing is going to break the seat and cause it to not be safe anymore?

I don't allow my 11 year olds to eat in the car. This is in part due to the mess they make but I have a fear of them choking while I'm driving!!!!!

You should read your manual and delete this video and redo a new one with the correct way to wash your carseat cover. So many kids are in danger if their carseat covers were washed this way. READ THE MANUAL!

Yes PLEASE tell me how WASHING a car seat cover in a machine is preventing the seat from protecting the child in a crash? Yes the manual says different but I’m sure it’s for liability, if they said to machine wash and you did and it fell apart, they are liable.

I am the same, every time I clean car or carseat I say NO MORE eating in the car buuuut I end up letting them anyways lol
