you legend! bought a can of carb cleaner today for £5 took my battery off then gave the idle valve a good clean. battery back on and amazingly engine management light has gone off and the car doesn't feel like its gonna cut out when static and the rev counter doesn't bounce.put about 20 miles on the clock this morning and all is good. you saved me a small fortune! cheers :)

How long the icv cleaning held ?

As an observer it never ceases to amaze me that the obvious cause of so many engine running problems are staring you in the face......try keeping a full tank of petrol & keep it near full. Running a car on a near empty tank is asking for fuel related problems as the fuel is sloshing around, picking up all the crud in the tank & passing it along the fuel lines, pump into & the engine. 'Rubbish in - rubbish out'.

I wouldn't recommend spraying carb cleaner directly into the inlet manifold; that is why you had so much trouble starting. Just clean the IACV, a little bit of soot in the manifold won't hurt and removes the risk of engine damage.

How hard is it 2 reprogram radio stations????? takes 2 sec.tho that is a common problem on a focus/Iac valve

on my focus 2.0 Dohc vin3 L4 zetec my aic is on the back because the exhaust is up front/intake is on the rear side of the motor but anyways, the aic should have a gasket between the block & the valve

very difficult on a 2.0 to change out this

Proper way do it just right is to hold ta valve with connector up while sprayng it. I also clean it like brand new with hear picks and cleaner untill no more black can be seen. If you reset PCM you should do proper idle relearn after. Dough it will learn eventualy, but could take longer.

cheers mate! I would disconnect the battery first then leave the car for about 1 hour then do the idle valve. I used a carburetor cleaner I did spray quite a bit inside too. I hope this helped you! 😀

I have a 1.4 2005 focus I have cleaned the air intake no vacume leak yet the idle sits at 1000 rpm if I turn on lights it drops 100rpm put on heater full drops again to 750 rpm help

I got the same problem in my 1997 1.4 Escort. I bought this cleaner spray and cleaned the idle motor. I left it for a full night but next morning when I put it back on the engine it kept doing the problem!

So.. i removed whole valve cleaned it from carbon back to clean and shiney... but the problem persists... Whenever i go from 3rd gear, 2nd and first gear when i hit clutch in first or second my rpms go to 2500/3000 when car stops they fall to 900/1000... Maybe i have reduced abit those rpms but they still hit 2500 min, until car stops... Still thanks for idea, i've at least learned something. :)

HUBBY000001 Ok i overlooked a small error in a rubber hose, which was connected to the valve. It was a little off, so i pulled it so it is fully on, cover the entire exit from valve to engine. Turned on the car, voila runs perfectly... If this hose has a hole in ( like mine had, before new one ) it will suck in more air than it should resulting in RPMs hanging on 2000 or more. So basically if you have problem like i had, clean valve and check the air hose. Small hose going out of the valve to engine. Cheers man, and thanks for help!

When you reset your ECU, it forgets about the gummed up IAC and relearns how to work with the IAC valve without the restriction.

Ford ECUs tend to reset after 15 minutes of being disconnected. An hour or more is thought to be a risk as car forgets other aspects.
