In my humble opinion everyone should stop using the phrase "gun control" when media and politicians spout their nonsense and retort them with "Civilian disarmament". Because ultimately, that is exactly what they're trying to do.

@Coke I’m pretty sure I was the catalyst that made him finally joined the gun owner lifestyle. I’ve been kind of priming him for the better part of 5 years. I recommended the Glock 43X because he wanted something that was conceal carry, but was also sufficient enough for home defense. I figured he could always put shield arms gen 3 15 round mags and if he wanted to.

Got my first handgun the day I turned 21. My first handgun was a Glock 23. I figured I could always neck it down to 9mm on a conversion barrel and extractor so I didn’t have to spend money I didn’t have. my goal was reliability and versatility for my first gun and also it was right during the Obama ammo crisis of 2014, so I figured having two different calibers options would be advantageous. Now I carry an Inox 92 FS every single day, open carry, everywhere I go that I legally can. I did some custom gunsmithing/fitting and I added some LTT parts. I disagree. Most people are getting the firearm to carry so naturally it should be something that you won’t mind having on you at all times. It’s gonna be a adjustment to having any firearm on you anyway but if it’s bulky and heavy then someone new to carrying would likely leave it at times instead of carrying it. Most people would be best suited for a semi auto with 3-4” barrel length that could serve as a home defense or conceal carry.

My first gun about 12 - 15 years ago was a Ruger SR9c and still carry it today. The standard mag holds 10 with an optional 17 round mag I use as a spare. It has an ambi mag release, ambi manual safety, fantastic ergonomic grip and nice crisp trigger - Far superior to a Glock. It’s very accurate and easy to shoot with minimal recoil. It has a pic rail and a really good slide serrations. And a feature some do not like, but n😊ice for a first firearm is a loaded chamber indicator. Easy field strip and cleaning.I would Highly recommend a used SR9c for a first firearm, especially because they can be found for $250 - $350; an absolute bargain . I have approximately 10-12,000 rounds through it now and have maybe 5 or 6 FTF with one brand of hollow point ammunition; Still going strong. Thank You Ruger

My first handgun was a full size 40S&W 4.4 inch barrel..... I hated carrying it and it printed (showed through my shirt) bad. I soon after sold it and bought a subcompact 9mm and absolutely love the smaller size. I don't want range toys, I want protection

My 1st handgun i had ever used and carried was a SW686 with a 4" barrel. Almost ended up with a 629 but found 38spl/357 to be more appealing. Carried that big iron on my property and around the house for about 2 years before going to a glock 19 then to a NHC 1911 as my main carry for the rest of my life. 21 now, 17 then.

I watched a ton of these first gun videos and by and large they all pushed a polymer pistol - glock, M&P, XD, etc. and in the end I bought a M&P 9mm full size. What i should have done is bought a used metal pistol like a sig P226 or P229. These are so much easier to learn on and much easier to shoot for a brand new gun owner. Once the heavy gun is mastered, the new owner can move on to a lighter polymer pistol. Just my opinion.

First handgun ... a S&W J-frame DAO .38 Spl. with a Crimson Trace grips. the Model 442. First Pistol... A Glock 19. First long gun in the shotgun category. Remington 870 and/or a Mossberg 500/590. First long gun in the rifle category... an AR-15, like a Ruger Ar 556, S&W M&P 15, etc. Remember, a handgun is what you use to fight your way to a long gun, which you should have had in the first place. If you know you are going to a gunfight, take a rifle and some friends.

Bought my 1st gun in January. Glock 17.5 for $600. As of today i probably spent $1500 customizing it and another $2000 in ammo and range trips. The true cost of ownership is way more than the gun's price tag. Money well spent.

@@JG_1998 I totally agree with you. I actually have a HK USP 40 and PX4 Beretta 9, but they are DA/SA. I like the hammer I guess, which is funny because as a kid I thought they looked outdated and dumb compared to striker fired handguns. Funny how times and tastes change. The 25 is a great deep, DEEP conceal or backup though. I forget I have it sometimes when I'm not scoping my surroundings. I appreciate the advice, thanks!

my first gun one was a PS90. Because stargate. And ive gone down the rabit hole of unique design guns ever since. Pistols was a jerico 941. Heavy but a fantastic winter coat carry in a sholder holster. Historically people have designed a slew of mechanical systems to make guns work. And its amazing to rip apart guns decades apart to see what similarities exist or were directly ripped from other guns. And then there are designs that became dead ends that have never been picked up again in future designs. Super facinating.
