    Good video. Only thing I would add is to pour the new oil in the oil filter housing before installing the filter. It's far quicker than the oil filler cap. After all the oil is all going to the same pan!

    Great video, very informative and helpful!!! Thanks!! You should make more, you make them well. One question though, after you remove the old oil filter and you remove the o rings, do you have to put them back on with the new filter or get new o rings? Or do you not replace them? I am just a little confused on that part. Thanks!

    Excellent video very well explained you made oil changes very easy on S 500 (2005) I have my S 500 with 180.000 kilometers runs great , Do you have a front wheel bearing repair video that's only thing I'm having hard time every year. From now on I like to watch all you service videos. I'm having trouble with 2008 BMW 750 LI with transmission cooling lines they're leaking under sub frame 7" rubber hoses I have to reinstall new cooling lines and drain all trans mission fluid which is 10 liters , plus pan and filter all for $ 1,800.75 dollars at BMW dealer . The car has 145.000 kilometers does not revers going forward only in any gear don't know what is the cause , your repair videos will be a great help no one can explain better then you. you are my favorite hero Thanks

    HI, I have a question regarding the engine oil and transmission, I was wondering if you can flush the transmission, in your video you only drain it unless I missed it. thank you

  • @GarageDynamics
    @GarageDynamics12 жыл бұрын

    Hi Ethan, Yes, after you remove the screws take the cover off and set it aside. Then proceed to drain the oil. After you have completed the drain/fill process, torqued the oil drain bolt, and filter replacement you can replace the cover shield.

  • @GarageDynamics
    @GarageDynamics11 жыл бұрын

    Hi Timetryp, We recommend torquing all bolts to their proper torque specifications. If it's possible try raising the car higher. You can also try changing the position of the torque wrench. For example, if your wrench handle is vertical in its starting position try starting from a horizontal position.

    Hi Kerry Flynn, We recommend the use of Mobile 1 0w-40 European formula. Other companies manufacture their oils a bit differently and using 5w-30 may work, but before you decide to use this weight consult with the oil manufacture to make sure their oil and weight is compatible with your car.

    Thanks for the post, it is informative. Are you familiar with AMG engines for the W221 would you? I can look up the parts for it etc, but I wasn't sure if there was any extra steps these engines require outside of what you stated. Example mine has no dipstick because its electronic, which i am not to thrilled about, i cant check the oil color and contamination myself!

  • @GarageDynamics

    @GarageDynamics

    Hi Chris H. The procedure is the very similar with the exception of the oil dipstick. Do you have an oil dipstick next to your firewall? If you do, that is your oil dipstick. The other way to monitor oil quality is to keep track of oil change intervals. you can also measure the level of oil in the engine using the cars control system.

    Hi Raul, It is always recommended to use the correct weight oil for your car. 0w-40 will allow oil to lubricate smaller moving parts more rapidly. Also, try checking the spark plug wires as they tend to come loose and can simulate the lifter noise. Carbon buildup is a possibility as well. There are many options available on the market for treating carbon build up. As always, please consult your automotive professional for more detailed advice.

    You have a point, they do exagerate on some parts, I would say 20% of them are over-engineered. It took me 2 hours to figure how to remove the shift knob on a Mercedes. It's ridiculous, I know what you mean, But I do have to contradict you on the cost of maintanance since most parts last longer and all you have to spend money on is oil , coolant , filters.

If so, we have a video on our channel titled "How to reset your 2001 Mercedes-Benz S500 service indicator" That video will show you how to remove the notification. If your oil level is low please make sure there is 8.5 liters of oil in the engine before putting it in use. Also if you are using the oil level check feature, please make sure the car is on level ground.

    Most of the time on KZread the why is absent especially when it comes to “technical” videos. Remove the o rings, why? Furthermore, are they replaced or put back? The 0w40 is a factor of the weather and the year of the car, to my knowledge cannot be fixed, however, the brand name must be considered for better performance. Anyway, thanks for sharing.

    Hello Larry Ashby, Some engines do not come with a dipstick unfortunately. The procedure for checking the oil will be to turn your ignition on to 2nd and toggle through the menu until you see check engine oil level. This must be done 30 minutes after the engine has stopped running and on a level surface. I hope this helps! Cheers!

    Oscar perez If you purchase the polyester filter (which is recommended for synthetic oil) then it's recommended to service the engine oil every 10,000 miles, assuming you're not driving the car in harsh condidtions, or putting strenuous load on the engine. If you are putting excessive load on the engine then you should change your oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles.

    Krician Damian, The McLaren Racing Team website and Ebay are good places to start. They will have the most up-to-date style of shirts and jackets.

    Yes, you can look up the temperature tolerance levels on google and such. The oil bottles themselves should also say too.

    my 2000 S 500 MB car remote does not work all the time, sometime it unlocks the doors and truck and sometime it does not. When the remote don't work, it locks the gas tank. I've check the battery and this is ok. What can I do to trouble shoot this to find out what's going on.

    Hi Charles Wheeler, You will want to check your infrared receiver located on your door handle and also make sure your air pump (located in the trunk on the driver side of the car) is working properly.

    +Craig Pretzinger Hi! That's a question I'm not familiar with. I will look into that for you. Are you talking about the 2014+ S550?

    Hey Craig, yes it should. this applies to most Mercedes cars from the 2000s Era. I refer to this video every time I change the oil on my E320

    Hi Oscar Perez, It's possible that the brake sensor got damaged (which are cheap and easy to replace), or that it's time to replace the brake pads and the light came on around the time you got the flat. If you haven't tried already, you can reset the workshop notification by holding down the "R" button. For a more detailed diagnosis it would be best to visit a local Mercedes-Benz mechanic.

    Thanks for answering. I went ahead and checked my brake pads and they did needed to be replaced. Now I have another question if my front brakes squeak does that mean those need to be replaced too? I didnt have a chance to check them

    Oscar perez If your brake pads are squeaking, but your workshop indicator is not on then they are ok. Brakes will squeak sometimes, however the sound of grinding metal on metal is bad and you should have your brakes inspected. If your pads are new and they are squeaking then the noise can be cured with brake grease.

    With these kind of oil filters you should remove and change the filter before you drain the oil. Because when unscrewing ist, quite some oil from filter housing drains down into the pan.
