***Please read the description and review the video before starting your transmission fluid change.
This video is for the 722.6 5-Speed transmission only.
-It's important that your transmission gearbox temperature reaches 80 degrees Celsius before check the fluid level. The level must be between the low and high fill marks. If its too high please drain off excess fluid by removing the drain bolt (you do not have to drain the whole transmission again).
Regarding the transmission pan Please remove the forward bolts first then the middle bolts as this will remove the excess oil that is left behind in the transmission pan.
-To protect your pan bolts, apply Copper Slip anti-seize compound to the threads to prevent corrosion.
The quantity of fluid to be replaced varies from car to car.
7.5 liters is recommended for the initial fill. It's also recommended to have a few liters extra as a backup, however you may not use all 7.5 liters. (We only used 3.5 liters and It's ok to mix old fluid with new fluid).
Torque specs:
Transmission pan bolts: 8Nn.
Drain bolt: 20Nm

I just wanna say I think you did a great job shooting and editing this video. I was just looking around to get a general idea of changing the transmission fluid and your directions were crisp and clear. And the video had a nice energetic feel to it. I appreciate the hard work you did to help everybody out. Thank you!!!
this video is so neat, crisp, and truly entertaining. if only torque converter drainage would be included, it would be god like. but title of an elite, it truly deserves. and dude trying not break out laughing, its great.
My biggest issue on my 1996 S500 W140 with the 722.6 trans is refill measurement. Great video sir.
2024 you are a life saver and hella underrated
Best instructional video I've ever watched of any kind ! You are concise, through, no wasted and unnecessary small talk. The information was given in a friendly and clear manner, the video editing was excellent also. I would gladly watch other instructional videos you make and would be confident they are the best based on this one alone.

Hello Starliner Cars! Thank you for the kind words! I really appreciate it. Have a great weekend. Cheers!
Thanks. One of the best and most concise instruction videos I've come across!
Perfect transmission service, the only additional item I would include is checking the electrical connector for leakage and replacing if needed. Your filming, instructions and torque specs were exceptional as always.

Because this way you will never be able to change more than 40-50% of gearbox oil in 722.6. So don't fool yourself. You are only partially refreshed oil but 50% of old muck is still there poisoning a new fluid.

I changed the radiator on my 99 S320, forgot to tighten the transmission line and while driving O lost almost all the fluid which then caused my car to no longer shift, I had to tow it home, tighten the line and needed to know how to add transmission oil ba ck into the car, this video was a perfect help, and you are truly a badass

Awesome video. Super thorough!
that is most understandable how to change the transmission fluid. thanks
Hi Vortaz57, Thank you for your appreciation of the video. The sequence is this way because, if the front of the car is lowered all the way down while the rear is still elevated, then there is a high risk that the front bumper will hit the jack, trapping the jack under the bumper. Also, if either side is lowered while the other side is left at an extreme height, then chances for extracting the jack successfully are lowered.
Thank you Raul! I choose Titan because it's an OEM fluid and it performs excellent. I would find out first if Mobil 1 can be mixed with your old transmission fluid. The good thing about Titan is that you can mix it in with old fluid.
Cool video thank you!
Good video. Very well done

Great video! When you finished the fluid change and lowered the car, why did you have to go back and forth between the front wheels and rear wheels? Thanks.
New members of the Elite lol. Good video. As i plan to take care of my Benz a long time. Are there any Lock up grades for the transmission tube?
Hi, nice and helpful video I got a question how many quarts does my 2000 s500 need?
Thanks you! Well done
Hi Aly Abidali, Draining the fluid in the pan at regular intervals will keep the fluid in the torque converter fresh. Be sure that your ATF fluid is compatible with old fluid. This will ensure maximum performance from your transmission.
Thank you, my friend.. I have a question, what is the suitable oil for the transmission of the Mercedes CLS500 2005 V8? 7 tronic
Hi Kristerpher, One way to find out is to look under your car. Look for your part number located on the transmission housing. Next to your part number will be your transmission model number. If it is 722.6xx then the transmission may be the same. It is always recommended to take your car to a licensed Mercedes-Benz mechanic to get the most accurate advice.
Good job. ) Thanks.
My 2004 S500 does not have the fill tube with cap. So do you have a video for changing the fluid in a sealed transmission that does not have the fill tube?
Hi Stchman, Mercedes uses a universal dipstick instead of a dipstick that is tailor made for every car. Because some tubes may vary in length the dipstick has to be long enough to fit each tube which means that it will usually be longer than the tube itself. If left in the fill tube, the dipstick would stick out and not create a tight seal, increasing the chance for dirt to get into the transmission.
Hi, Great video. I sow many videos on flushing the transmission, and I was wondering, do you think that is a good and necessary thing to do, or this way will be sufficient? Kind Regards
Is there a slot in the engine on the W221 (2008s to 2010) for the transmission check also?
My 2004 S500 does not have a sealed transmission fluid tube in the engine bay. Just a black cap directly on top of the transmission. How do I check the fluid level on this type?
i love this video but did you use that titan transmission fluid container and would you recommend mobil 1 synthetic atf
Hi Mugs132, The transmission filter kit comes with a new washer. It does not come with a new o-ring for the fill cap. However, if the old one is still in good condition it can be reused.
I want to first say "Thank you so so so much" for this clear video. Now I am currently in trouble with my car. .. I have no one to look at it or help me and I need to do this myself." Is it too much to ask where do get the tools. I am a primp walking in heel girl....but my car is only moving at 25 miles an hour and maybe this is the reason why....I don't know. May be the transmission is going. But its worth a try. I guess. Can you please tell me where to get the filter kit and all the tools?
Thanks so much , but I want to know , how many oil box for Mercedes s320 ??
What year is this car, im looking to do this to my 2008 s450, everything on that car points to a sealed unit, can it be diy?
Hello. I have a 2005 W211 merc. My car does not take on the gears and obviously does not move. Do you think if I do this it will get fixed?
Can you just use the measured volume of the fluid removed as the guide for refilling the transmission? Is the heat sensor essential?
Ok thank you and do you recommend Mobil 1 for a mercedes
Hi Itsnacirema, Your question is not stupid and we believe that no question is stupid. Regarding the car, we only have working knowledge with the W220 S Class. It might be possible that your buddy's 94 S500 uses the same transmission (722.6), but we can't say for sure. The best thing to do is visit mbworld.org. Everyone on the forum is very nice and can help you find an answer to your question.
Excellent presentation but you forgot to replace the electrical socket that connects the transmission to the computer. This tends to leak and wick transmission fluid up the wires into the computer and causes failures. It's recommended for all MB transmissions, known fault. $30 part, cheaper at a Chrysler Dodge dealer since they used the same transmission in the 300C, crossfire, and many other cars. Unfortunately needs to be done when the transmission is empty.
What are the reasons to lower the vehicle in that sequence? Wickedly awesome. Thanks.
Hi Scmskim4, FUCHS TITAN 4134 is rated as OEM and works really well, but it is always advised to use the best transmission fluid for your car.
Hi Klayton Almeida, The procedure is different for the 7G transmission.
Great Videos!!! Might this be the same for a w211 e320?
Overall very good video. However I would not use a none OE genuine filter and gasket for this job. The price difference is so minor between them to risk it.
great video thanks a lot . I did not Know torque number of ATF oil pan and bolt.
Thats all great but do a video on a 2008 s65 amg is the oil; change and the transmission the as a s500 or s550??????????????
Apologies sir. Just found your video. Thanks.
Dear SkipArtPictures, Thanks a lot for yotur help! This transmission is the 7Gtronic or 5Gtronic? if this is the 5gtronic, the procedure on the 7G is the same? Thanks in advance
Awesome video would this be similar on a 91 SL500
You go boy know your stuff that's right all the haters get the middle finger for real
My 2010 e550 doesnt have a transmission dipstick. How do I fill in the new oil? Im assuming there is a top or side bolt on the pan.
Hi Barophobia, Yes, hold down the brake pedal when you're changing the gears.
Thanks Skip Art.

Okay this might be a stupid question and whatever to the backlash my buddy just got a 1994 Mercedes Benz S 500 and I've watched a couple of your videos and I must say Thanks but will this stuff that I've watched work in his Mercedes because the engines kind of look different I'm not a mechanic or anything but I'm trying to help him out and just for example I watched you're how to change oil and his filter isn't like your filter. Will any of this work for his 94?
why did you not drain the torque converter aswel?
good
Hey man great video but I am actually in a situation where I put the wrong fluid and need to do a full drain on the tranny. Can I just pull the pan and leave the car running and the thing will drain itself? I can't find the correct process!! Please let me know if you or anyone else knows the answer haha thanks (:
pls infm how many litre fluid for #2006 S550 in necessary?
Great tutorial, will this same method and procedures work for a mercedes e500 (04) 211 series? Thanks you
@GarageDynamics
10 жыл бұрын
Hi 4EVERMYSERENITY, Thank you. The procedures may be the same depending on whether your E500 uses the same 722.6 5speed transmission as the S500. You can check the model number on the bottom of your transmission where the engine and transmission join together. If you are still uncertain then please visit mbworld.org for more information, or consult a local Mercedes-Benz mechanic.
Your instructions were perfect, saved me $350 at the dealership. Is there a video on changing differential fluid coming soon? Thanks again.

Torque converter not drained?
Hey Skip Art, what about draining the Torque Converter plug? I've heard both sides about you should drain it and people saying it doesn't need to be drained....thoughts? Great video!
@GarageDynamics
8 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Berar Hi Kevin Berar, Thank you! It doesn't hurt to drain it, but if you change your transmission fluid frequently then you don't need to drain the torque converter.
what I dont understand is if you measure the fluid that you extract to put in the exact amount why did you then check with the dipstick, couldnt you just rely on the dipstick reading alone?
Excellent video!! Thanks! Question - Do you worry about changing the o-ring on the electrical connector for the conductor plate?
@GarageDynamics
7 жыл бұрын
Hi youtoobe169! Yes. It is important to change the o-ring, but it is not required for the transmission service. Changing the o-ring is good for preventative maintenance to ensure that transmission oil does not leak which can happen when the o-ring gets old and hard.
@youtoobe169

Thanks for the reply. One more question. I think I may have put about 1/2 quart too much in. Do you think that this transmission can tolerate that? I did not have any issues driving (i.e. coming out the vent hole, etc)

Hi Kerry Flynn, Are you only missing the dipstick, or are you missing the whole tube that attaches to your transmission? If you have located your fill tube, but can't find the dipstick, that's because Mercedes doesn't provide a transmission dipstick. You have to purchase it separately. The newer 722.9 (7speed) transmission fill procedure is a bit different. If you're unsure of the procedure please seek professional help and you can always visit mbworld.org for lots of great advice.
Great video. Question... I have a 2003 CL55, can I follow the same procedure to change my transmission fluid? Thanks.
@GarageDynamics
9 жыл бұрын
Hi BGPHILLY1, Thank you for your support! Your car should be fitted with a 722.6XX transmission. You can confirm this by looking directly under the transmission where the engine and transmission meet. You will see a series of numbers identifying your transmission model. If it is 722.6XX then the procedure is the same.
So with a Mercedes, you need to unlock the transmission fill tube, insert a dipstick into the fill tube, check the fluid, and then put a new lock on the fill tube? Why not just leave the dipstick in the fill tube?
