How To Change The Fuel Filter and Replace The Glass Sediment Bowl On A Massey Ferguson 245 Tractor

While attempting to check the fluid level in the power steering pump on my Massey Ferguson 245 tractor, I broke the glass sediment bowl. This is how to change the fuel filter and the glass bowl. Be careful of the o-ring and gaskets when doing this.

Small accidents like that seem to happen every day on a farm! Glad you were able to take care of it and show everyone else that might encounter the same thing how to go about it!

I was waiting to see this, glad you decided to post a video on this. Many daily task we take for granted as we do them. Not realizing there are people who have never changed a fuel filter on a tractor. An O-ring pick helps remove O-rings quickly & easily without damaging them, if you need to reuse an O-ring. I noticed you lubricated the O-rings, important step, but didn't mention that in the video. Great job though! I'm taking notes as I prepare to try my hand at a few videos.

Cheers from Australia. How do ya get the bowl and filter off? I've gotta change my filter on the bobcat, I've undone the nut on top and drained the fuel out the bottom, but the filter and bowl won't bloody budge! I don't want to break it. I feel i may have to give it a few taps with a plastic mallet. I wish i had that much room in there to work. So that nut on top is holding it on the shaft through the center of the filter? Thanks in advance if ya reply.

That either bled real easy, or it cut out because it wasn't bled properly.

@@HiddenMeadowFarm There's nothing wrong with displaying humility when you know you're wrong, or indeed, when you aren't! In this instance, you're wrong. I've done enough of these to know that bled too easy. Why not show it running for 30 secs after, if that's the case. 🤔

I don’t know what you are talking about. I bled according to the manual and primed with the primer. Enlighten me on what I did wrong and the correct way to do whatever it is that you say I did wrong. I still think you don’t know what you are talking about.

@@HiddenMeadowFarm You're certainly a proud man with your last sentence. As mentioned by another viewer's comment, it was definitely NOT primed at 8.40. You filled the filter. Q: Where did you bleed the air off at? A:Answer: Nowhere. Not at filter, not at injection pump and not at injector ports. It's the reason why your tractor stopped when you said "let's see what happens "! You failed to bleed it! By saying that you think I don't know what I'm talking about just makes you look, proud, arrogant and completely amateurish at changing this tractors filter. So I ask again, as the other viewers comment: Where in the video do you think you bled the system? I'd love to know!

I don’t usually watch my videos so I don’t know what you are talking about. If I didn’t show where I bled the system, for that I’m sorry. But I did bleed the fuel line at the injector ports on top on the engine, opposite side of the fuel pump. As for being proud, your call. As for my videos, they are mine and I make and edit them the way I want. Start your own channel and you can tell the story the way you want. By the way, it got bleed sometime or another because I use it all the time.

Mike, it is a diesel and I'm glad you pointed it out, as my dog could have done this better. It was not bled at 8.40, it simply had the filter filled. If you do your tractor, DO NOT follow these "instructions "! If you do, when you say to yourself, just prior to turning the key, "let's start her up, see what happens ", it'll die when the air gets locked up in the system because you didn't bleed it. Sounds like you know this already though, because you pointed it out.

Mike, jack spratt is a troll that doesn’t know anything about tractors. No where did I mention having to bled the fuel system. I did prime before I started it. Been using it ever since. 11,000 other people have learned how easy it is to change a fuel filter.

@@HiddenMeadowFarm Silly little man. I'm not a troll. Trolls are from Shrek. I was simply pointing out that your video is a piss poor attempt at trying to make a buck on KZread. Just admit your tractor sputtered to a quick, air locked death, after a non existent bleed. Mike pointed it out too. What bit don't you understand?! If it's supposed to be an "educational " video, then show how to bleed it, not just fill the filter. ALL the facts are there, if you argue with the facts, there's just no hope, none whatsoever! I'll leave you alone now. Maybe buy yourself a Perkins manual for Christmas and learn how it's done properly. Ta tar.
