Good job guys , from a mechanics point of view when using new bearings you can give them a bit more preload as they will wear in a little👍

I always tighten them up a bit more to make sure everything beds in, I then back off the crown locking nut and give it a spin to check it. Nothing like a test run and check after its done. Good job. 👍👍

Say you will learn, Hopefully used a quality brand of bearings, more preload by shifter and turning hub to Bed in bearings, then back off to set preload by hand. Once split pin is in, can use shifter to slightly add more tension to castle nut, pin will bend slightly. Boat trailer bearing seals need to be greased on outer edge . Next time use normal trailer bearing seals for touring mileage. Suggest recheck bearings , As said two clicks most on torque wrench. Brake adjustment up at this time and set all wheels same value

Hey Chris. When using a torque wrench, do not take run ups like you did on those lug nuts. Just snug them up with a normal wrench and then using the torque wrench gently tighten until it clicks once. No more. Now for lug nuts, what you did will not really hurt (you've just over tightened them a bit and they can take it to a point), but take care with other fasteners that you don't overtighten them (that is why you are using one in the first place). For instance, if they were engine head bolts, it would likely be the cause of failure within a few hours of operation.

Great episode. but must say more pre load with spanner or socket bring up tight , back off then snug tight back off for crown nut alignment. the grease can give you wrong torque. All in all done well big fella. ( sorry in the maintenance game but< i know your only doing bearing but I'd be checking studs and brakes

That oil, dust seal goes in the back of the hub before you put it on because you dont know if it sealed in the hub

Another hot tip worth mentioning, you always put the wheel nuts on with a torque wrench, just like you did, I often see people use the impact driver, it is fine to take them off, but never to put them on, you will strip the threads, as tempting as it is, don't do it. Also with caps, take your time and tap em in gently, they are easily dented if you go too hard and then they just look like crap.

The bearing pre-load was a bit light on. Tighten down tight as possible while turning hub over, then back off until loose, turn down until nut touches the bearing again and tighten 1 flat tighter. Never loosen off to fit split pin, always turn next castle nut groove tighter. Otherwise perfect

Best thing for installing new cups / cones is an old one, but put a narrow cut through it with a cutting disc on angle grinder so you can get out easily

Shouldn’t have grease between the stub axel and where the bearing seats on it as this is a non moving section and if it’s lubricated and bearing isn’t pre loaded correctly can promote the whole bearing spinning on the stub axel. But good job mate.

Great demo thanks. Makes me wonder why they don't just add grease nipples though. I mean you'd still pack the bearing although it'd help with the gap loading part.

Good practice to lubricate the seal journal surface too. If you have access to a freezer you can put the outer races in the freezer and it will assist with the interference fit and do away with excessive tapping with a punch. They say a little bit of grease is good so more must be better! Wrong. One of the biggest failures of bearings is over lubricating as it can increase friction and generate heat.

Interesting video. I hate wheels though as when we bought our new caravan they hadn’t tightened the wheel nuts and the wheel flew off whilst travelling!!! It was very scary, we now check the wheel nuts before every journey!!

Very interesting, we like how Jack was keeping the kids up to date as Chris was speaking😚. Now you got me in trouble Sian when you were greasing the hub, I was going to say something when you said "don't get dirty" Hmmm!. Cheryl thinks she could do this job with her eyes closed now, not just greasing the hub😮. Anyway will be in touch looking forward to the Brissy tour...Take care.x

Use your old outer race to drive the new ones home, that way you aren’t hitting your new bearing with a hammer or punch Avoid getting that break cleaner all over your hands, it’s not good for you

Crickey, can't believe u got this far without knowing, this basic mechanical Trailer wheel knowledge. Should always travel with at least 1 spare set of bearings and seats pre greased and sealed in a vacuum bag ready to go, can even be the best of the last batch you replaced if used van or trailer, to get out of a pinch. Otherwise was good vid. Would advice to wear at least shoes when removing tyres, had a lovely big toe nail removal once when taking tyre off to change over. Was not fun for some weeks after that.

You have the bearing and a bearing race and the bearings need more preload that’s how tight you do up the castle nut
