Interesting. I have a '04 that I just replaced the head unit. Sounds MUCH better already with the stock Mach speakers and amps. I didn't realize there was a whole "box" back there. That's pretty neat.

I just want to point out that all 4 OEM tweeters are powered by the head unit and the OEM "subwoofers" are powered by the OEM mono amplifiers. So, you can replace the rear tweeters along with the woofers as well as the front woofers and tweeters. I did.Some people replace the rear speakers with 2-way speakers (woofer/tweeter combo). It's a LOT of work to replace the OEM mono amplifiers with an aftermarket 4 channel amplifier, though. I just did the work. A lot of panels have to be removed and a lot of new wiring including new power for the amplifier. It would be a good idea to get wiring schematics if you do this work yourself. Getting all the panels back into place is a real challenge also.

I found that not all speakers have the small and large blades but only have large blades. The Hertz speakers I installed in my Xterra were that way and I had to modify the Metra interface cable to make the connection.

FYI, factory (Mach 460 system at least) is 8 ohm 5x7s in door and rear, running parallel mono per side off of the 2 amps. Sail & rear mounted 3.5s are ran full range off of the factory head unit. So, those Hertz speakers will get only a crossed over low pass signal from the horrible factory amps.

I have a Mach 460 system and the speakers pop at lounge volume, does the speakers need to be replace with another factory speaker or replace with something better. If I do replace the speakers with betters one, what amp should I get?

@@NigkonuN Hey. Wire in a Volt 39 into the head unit's harness and select 5 volts on the switch.

I've considered replacing my Mach 460 speakers but I'm going to wait until I can get an amp and redo the cabling. Plus I'm going to do the "Big 4" wiring upgrade before installing an amp.

You can simply run each woofer in series to a 4ohm resister to bring it up to the factory 8ohm factory speakers are in parallel already . Without doing that you are putting a 2ohm load on a 4ohm factory amp that's notorious for burning up.

Good video nice and informing. You can not just replace the Mach 460 speakers with out bypassing the factory amp since they are 2 8 Ohns speakers wired in parallel to make 4 Ohms. The Mach 460 amps are not 2 Ohm stable and replacement of the speakers will make it see a 2 Ohm load.

Wait I just want to put in 10 inch 400 watt subwoofer but I want to keep stock speakers too. Is this possible? Or can I just take out passenger speaker to put in RCA converter for my amplifier?

I am so glad my stang has the base stereo system and not one of the mach options. The mach system is complex and convoluted to the point of ridiculousness. The base system is a far better platform for installing aftermarket gear.

Are the rear speakers the same size?

Front side speakers have no current. On 2002 mustang gt what color are the wires on stereo

I'm considering upgrading my speakers but it appears that I would have to upgrade the amplifiers or simply delete them and rewire the speakers so they're not in parallel and just run them off the head unit. Should be enough power at 22 watts continuous (50W peak) out of the head unit unless I want to entertain my neighbors or the people in the car next to me. Anyway, an amplifier could be added later if 22 watts isn't enough. By the way, my head unit is a Pioneer AVH-220EX.

Use the signal off the small speaker when replacing Mach 460 speakers. Remove the factory 5X7 / 6X8 but use the wires from the smaller speakers to feed the crossover or the replacement 5X7 / 6X8 speakers. Not doing this will provide a crappy sound.

Does the rear deck have a 6x9 speaker and also a tweeter? And if it is a tweeter as well in the rear deck anyone know the size of it?

How much money would you say it would be to have an audio shop redo the stereo in my 1995 mustang? No mach system, but someone else has done some upgrades that don't seem correct and I don't feel confident in my abilities with car audio.

have never disconnected battery for speakers just make sure the vehicles off and your fine

But my mustang is a convertible and I don't have any speakers on in the rear they're next to the drives shoulder :(

hussain almukhtar i think they should be the same for all the years because the ones near your shoulders would be the tweeters id assume and not subwoofers i have an 03' GT but mine is the non premium so i don't have those side ones

I need help, the right down speaker of the door on the video, i have a problem with it on my 2001 Mustang GT, i hear a cracking sound when the volume its at 27 to max. Can some one help me solve it.

If its factory speaker the voice coil could be gone in the speaker

Push down on door handle it comes out

you just run new speaker wire to each one and run them to a 4ch amp cause ford mach wiring is not the same as positive n negative to each if you dont your fade will be all fucked up

can you technically explain why you have to delete the tweeters?you sound like someone told you to do it without an explanation?

Stock tweeters and aftermarket can have two different sounds, not deleting can effect sound quality but is pure personal preference

But the door speakers are 8ohm and you just put a 4 ohm speaker in there. Goodbye amp
