    16mm bolt and poke a hole in the bottom of your filter for a no mess filter removal. dump 3 gallons + 1 qt = 13 qt FYI it takes about 5 min for all the oil to go to the pan. great video

    I do like the idea of poking a hole in the filter. How would you go about doing this? Sharp punch and a hammer? Wonder if you would still get some oil spilt on you. At least the filter sides would be oil free.

    I would not do that as the cons of doing that are far greater vs no mess aka: you bought/recieved the wrong filter size and this may be your only vehicle, someone overtightened the filter and you need to drive and get a special tool, someone did you dirty and jb welded the filter. I know these sound extreme but you never know when extreme things can happen vs saving a small mess (that cardboard would've prevented anyways)

    Great video but how long did you let the truck sit after the first start up and shut off to determine oil was low? All the oil pumped into motor has to have time to drain back down to pan.

    Ford claims that the truck has an "intelligent oil life sensor". You be the judge on wether you trust it or not. Typically when I change my oil, I put a label on my windshield when my next oil change is due. I also reset the oil life filter. I never let the oil life monitor pass 7,500 miles. If you can afford it, changing the oil earlier is always better.

    Nice, I love the screens in the 2022’s. As for where to recycle your oil. My town has a hazmat drop off day once a year where they take used motor oil free of change. So I would first check with your town or county. You can usually find info and contact info on their website. If that doesn’t work, I believe stores that sell motor oil, are required to accept used oil by law. I’ve dropped used oil off at auto zone and Walmart without a problem in the past. Be sure to label the container “used motor oil”. Last last resort option would be to ask a local mechanics shop if they would take it in. Check with your town first.

    @Just stuff and things What brand you use is completely up to you. Regardless of brand, you must use a “diesel” motor oil (different than gas motor oils). Does your truck make a prime noise when you shut it off

  • @OldSoulMillennial

    @OldSoulMillennial

    2 ай бұрын

    My truck makes serval noises when it shuts off. The noises mainly consist of electronic valves and actuators cycling. I believe the purpose is to ensure nothing gets seized and perhaps to conduct a quick self check. I would not describe any of those noises as a “priming noise”.

  • @OldSoulMillennial

    @OldSoulMillennial

    You can if you’d like. However, the truck will prime the system automatically so long as you cycle the key as I specified in my video. Personally, I prioritize getting the filter installed on properly over filling it up with diesel and spilling diesel in my face. Oil filter, totally different story. I recommend always pre-filling the oil filter on the 6.7.

    Just watched a engine builder complain, that after a oil and filter change. The oil pump has to pump over a half a gallon of oil, before the mains and cam shaft mains to get oil. I personally know a person that had spun mains on their crank, just outside of the warranty. The oil filter alone holds a quart of oil.

  • @CaptHollister

    @CaptHollister

    @@RodneyVaal-rq3wy Are you suggesting that engineers designed an engine so bad that it spun bearings because of the low oil pressure immediately after an oil change ? you know that doesn't make any sense, right ? If that were true, the world would be filled with low mileage engines with spun bearings and YT would be full of "experts" advising us not to change our oil too often in order to limit the risk of damaging the engine from all the dry starts. In reality, there are no "dry" starts after an oil change. First, you're never going to drain all the oil, second, engine oil is designed to stick to engine surfaces and that remaining film is more than enough to protect your engine while waiting for the new oil to circulate after it's been changed. Case in point: Mercedes have the oil filter located at the very top of the engine with the inlet at the bottom. It is impossible to prefill them, yet it's not like Mercedes has a reputation for short-lived engines...
