Thanks for the video, I’m upgrading my 04 450 kodiak. I plow a lot of snow, this upgrade might give me the added low end torque for said plowing.

Thanks for posting this video ! My Kodiak 400 is a 2000 model with no issues but being 20 years old I decided to change the belt. Thanks to your video the install was easy. BTW the belt didn't look like it needed changing. I'll keep the old one as a spare . . . but I think its going to outlive me. LOL

@@bestbudssmokeshop5587 I bought the new one first ! I just got in my 22 mm long impact socket this week. Planning to repack the grease in the primary CVT when it warms up. I put anti-seize on all the 10 mm nuts and bolts. I may look like the tin man when I'm done ! LOL

It's not only about the belt looking old/cracked that necessitates a replacement. It's about mic'ing the thickness of the belt. As the belt wears, it reduces in the thickness and if it gets out of spec, it needs to be replaced, regardless of how it looks.

Thanks for the comment. Believe we used 2 shims, the main thing is you don't shim it past where the splines connect to the sheave. Here are some on ebay...www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xkodiak+450+shims.TRS0&_nkw=kodiak+450+shims&_sacat=0

I know you are more mechanical than I am and I was hoping you could help. I just bought a 2003 Yamaha Kodiak 450 from my brother in law, with low hours just 273. He garage keep it and did all of the pm on it for years. I believe that I need to adjust my rear break because the foot pedal has a lot of play and the left hand break can be compressed fully with very little brake action. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I would be able to save face with my brother in law.

Jeff, can't remember exactly how that setup was. Look for anything on or around the cable ends that looks adjustable. Adjust it one way and check... if nothing readjust the opposite direction. There is nothing that you can permanently damage by giving it a try. Thanks for the comment!

Thanks for the video, it's very well done. Do I understand the concept correctly that the shim mod would give me more usable power more quickly if I am say towing a trailer with a load or using the Kodiak on bad ground?

John, thanks for your comment. Yes, the mod adds more usable power on the bottom end. The drawback is it does take away a couple MPH from the top speed. Also, if you've not already watch this video and register for some free product. kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y3h4pbBqcra_is4.html

The shim mod will lower the overall gear ratio on your Kodiak. The mod is great for those looking for improved performance or those like ourselves seeking a gear ratio better suited for hills and work. Inexpensive alternative to a larger displacement quad...

Thanks for video. I have 2016 Cub-Cadet Challenger 750cc Crew and it doesn't have much take off power and seems to take forever to get to top speed . If its just me in it, it will get up to 53-55mph but takes a half mile or close to it to get to that top speed.....I just want it to take off quicker and get to 15-20 mph without sounding like I am running wide open with high RPMs. I ordered a 4 shim kit that will be in today. Someone else said I needed to change the weight of rollers. I am just about positive the factory is 18gram....and I think I need to put lighter weights? Let me know if I am on right track. Thanks in advance

@Everything ATV-UTV-Reviews that's fine....I get it for sure. I found a couple videos that may help. I just have seen so much controversy about heavier vs lighter roller weights.....my thinking is lighter weights wil "sling out" quicker and "roll back in" quicker... which would close the movable sheave faster and the result would be quicker take off, lower top-end speed but again....a vehicle that's 12.5ft long and costs over $10k new, I definitely don't want to be running 45-50mph....lol

It is shims that allow the belt to sit lower in the primary clutch, which gives you a slight gear reduction. Not a bad investment for a couple $$$.

Zach, replace the belt when you do this mod. Also clean the surface area where the belt goes up and down on the primary clutch, the clutch closest toward the front wheels. Make sure the primary clutch is engaged into the splines also, to much shim and it will NOT catch the splines. Check the video out at 3:07 for more information

Everything ATV-UTV-Reviews. The shins are fine it’s that one of our roller/weights were broke when we do it off. And the dealer said it probably was a factory problem because it shouldn’t have broke even if we over torqed it. But we got my rollers and now we’re waiting on the special grease for the clutch and I’ll let you know what happens then.

You bought the wrong type of machine if you're trying to hit a top speed. ATVs are meant to traverse any terrain. If you want speed buy a 2WD sport quad, super sport bike or fast car. If you want to go seriously off road and through mud, you need strong low end power and 4x4.
