Mr Richard I've been fishing for 30 years and I've never fished for bass with live bait and I don't have any experience catching big crappie either. I'm new to your channel and all I do is watch your videos and I have learned so much and I'm forever grateful. Thank you for all you do!

I've never tried that! I catch shiners and chubs in the creeks but it was during the summer and I was a kid. I learn something new from you every day. Awesome!

BuffFishGuy usually they are skinner than bream so easier to swallow and bream also have the big very sharp fin on their back

I'm ready to see the Bass fishing after that. Good lesson there Richard.

My friend , thanks for the info. You can tell a lot about a person by their openness, you seem to care about helping other people catch fish. Thanks for being real.

They was a pay lake that I used to fish, that had them golden shiners in it, and some of them were huge too, I’m talking 10-12 inches long. We used Popeyes tipped with a wax worm to catch them and we’d catch them green sunfish too but that lake had some big ole Flatheads in it too and they loved those things! I remember a buddy of mine caught a golden shiner about 14” inches long and caught a 54 lb Flathead on it and the dang shiner was still alive after he landed that fish, so he rehooked it and threw it back out there and then hooked into a big ole bluecat, I think it was 34 or 36 lbs, something like that, needless to say that shiner wasn’t alive after that, them blues and channels will crush a live bait before they try to swallow it! Anyways I just wanted to tell you that, and you’re right my friend, they are excellent bait if you can find them!!! We also caught a bunch of them shiners from there and took them to another lake, where my buddy caught a 76 lb bluecat on one, of course I always thought that boy could throw in a mud puddle and catch a darn fish! Know what I mean, Vern?? lol! Or Elmer I should say!! Anyways, tight lines and good fishing to you bud!!

God bless you Richard your a true blessing in this world I have to say your videos have saved me from the darkest of my days... nearly lost my life about a year ago due to my battle with life and depression after I found your videos I started fishing and it really helped me I was able to escape the pain and stuff by going fishing and watching your videos you may not know it but you've saved my life and thousands of others I love you and everyone else does too God bless you uncle Richard

I grew up in California, golden shiners are not native at the lake I grew up fishing on. But they were there, someone brought them in as bait and they reproduced. The lake is actually named Bass Lake and when I was a youngster my family would go on vacation to this lake every year. I used to catch Golden Shiners from our dock using small white bread balls on a small hook, bluegill too. When I was about 11 years old I tossed one out and reeled it in, there were 5 big bass following it, you can guess what I did next. Well when I was about 22 years old I started going back to the lake on vacation, and there were no more shiners in the lake.

Richard I've learned.alot from you what's the Best litter jig set of for golden shiners

I caught with a red worm and little hook I think I’ll go try again today. I used it as cut bait and coughs two nice size channel cats. Thanks for this.

Have a buddy that takes his extending pole out with no reel and catches some skipjack to cut up whenever he is going catfishing the next day.

@RichardGene I live near a watershed where there are golden shiners, but theres almost no milfoil or really any vegetation to fish around. You can cast net them there, but its really difficult to get one.

I do know we have gizzard shad. I usually take the kids, that are grown now, and go to the creeks and catch shiners and chubs with small live bait. Gonna have to try that very small jig though. Great video my friend, and if you used a casting net, well then that would have taken the fun out of it. Cause your fishinggggg when cannnnn. God bless my friend.

Richard, I was catching shiners down at the creek on a rod and reel. The first one I put in my livewell turned the water red with blood. I only hooked him in the lip not the gills. I’ve heard you say golden shiners are hard to keep alive. Why is this and how do you keep them from bleeding like that?

What kind of rod/reel?

Wonder if u can catch those yourself in new hampshire

What pole are you using to cast that far with such a small jig?

Is that rod tip sensitive enough to feel the bite or are you mainly depending on watching the float go down i keep trying to catch these gene but im having trouble i keep getting SKUNKED need some advise id really appreciate it

Beez careful RGTFM cuz you lible to git yo awm broke usum dem shiners on dem bass!

I buy shiners during ice fishing otherwise I just catch some bait on shore then head to the fishing spot. I use a size 18 hook for anything smaller then 6 inches. You cant have too small of a hook only too big of a hook.

I do believe you could have filleted some of those shiners!
