How to CATCH AND PICK UP Your Guinea Pig Easily - Guinea Piggles

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Many guinea pig owners find it hard to get hold of their guinea pigs to pick up. Because they are such nervous animals, their first instinct when you put your hands in their enclosure is to run away and hide. In this video I show you how to easily catch them and pick them up safely. This will be very useful for new guinea pig owners as well as those who always find this task difficult.

    Also returning my girls to their home, I get down to my knees and holding them close to me, I lower my body to the floor so they (1 piggie at a time! ) can walk out from my arms and there's no danger of them suddenly leaping from a height, they're so much happier this way. I used the 'barricade' method which reduced chasing and stress, they were much happier. They're more than happy at nail-trimming time: Clip four nails, fuss, treat and brush. I have 3 piggies and it can and does take time, but it doesn't matter, and it shouldn't matter, as long as my pets are happy and healthy, THAT'S what matters 😍🐹 Great Video and very informative for people who are just setting on their journey to owning these wonderful little animals. I've had them for years and still love watching channels like yours, and Scotty and Saskia, to name just a few! You're all Brilliant 😇😘

    Thanks for the great tips Monique- all well practised in our house! One of mine, Pecan will actually put her front paws onto my hands when you go to lift her- it always feels like she’s giving me permission to pick her up and is very sweet. Truffle who is one of my most friendly and affectionate piggies hates being picked up and is very skittish so I always try to get her in a hidey or bed to lift her as then she’s fine. Hazel and Pansy are so laid back you can literally just scoop them up. They’re all such different piggy personalities aren’t they? 🥰 How is Winston doing? Is he in with the girls now? xx

    Four days ago my guinea pig was breathing and we heard crackling for one day and then the crackling stopped. She was eating, drinking, and pooping well but since she was crackling we suspected a URI. We took her to the vet and they said she was very healthy and he couldn't see anything wrong with her, other than increased breath sounds. But as a precaution, he prescribed 0.5 mg of azithromycin for 3 days. Today was the thrid and final dose. Since she started the antibiotics, I noticed decreased appetite usually a few hours post antibiotics and by morning she is back to her usual appetite. Today while we had her out, we started getting worried that she is bloated. When we touch her sides or her tummy, she kicks us and complains. I know that guinea pigs do not like to be touched there, and her reactions might be normal, but her stomach and sides feel a bit firm. I do not know if that is how a normal guinea pig's stomach feels and I am very worried. Please help, any advice would be helpful and appreciated.

    I always put my piggies back in their cage backwards as I find it stops them trying to jump, which I’m sure is when a lot of piggies can get injured, although thankfully this has never happened to me

    Yeah it's so weird. When I first got Bacon I had him take in like a week. I would put my hand in his hutch and he would be still. Now it's like it's a game to him. As soon as I walk in his room he starts to scramble.

    How often should you bathe guinea pigs and cut their hair?

  • @wolftimeplusguineapigs3862

    @wolftimeplusguineapigs3862

    They could be bathed around four times a year but usually it’s unnecessary and unless they’re long-haired pigs you don’t need to cut their hair if they are New trim it when it starts getting in the way

    They sometimes do this because they are scared and don't want to be picked up. Just make sure you're picking them up correctly and they'll get more comfortable with it in time :)
