I dont have a guinea pigs yet but im planning to get 2 soon, but when i was younger my mom lost my guinea pig and we were both freaking out because we knew our 8 month old cat was in the house. A minute later we found them sitting next to eachother casually, no one was being eaten. They became best friends and my guinea pig would treat my cat like she was just another guinea pig. I was young and didnt research at all so I knew nothing about guinea pigs so i didnt know they were social animals. Still, my mom would always watch over my guinea pig and cat.

It's surprising how cats and guinea pigs can get along.. But you're right to always be wary because you never know.. Cats have been known to attack guinea pigs so always best to be cautious! It's great that you're finding out about them before getting a pair - the more you know in advance the better chance they will have of a great life with you! :)

@@GuineaPiggles Yeah, when that happened i was 9 or so, my mom got me a guinea pig that had no companion and a small cage and i thought it was okay. I never fed him hay, just pellets. It makes me cry when I think about how unhappy he was. When I get my guinea pigs, this time i'll research, and I am going to make their cage half the size of my room.

@@kyumi1296 I'm so glad you learned from that experience and you seem determined to give any new piggies a really good home which is fantastic :) Remember that as a 9 year old you're not to know these things so don't feel bad. This is why parents need to take responsibility for the pets even if they buy them for their kids. It's so important to do the research first x

@@kyumi1296 hello, I know it’s been a year so you probably won’t see this but, you reminded me of myself! When I was 9 my mom got me a bunny and I knew nothing about bunnies. She only ate pellets and lived in a tiny cage with nothing, I still have her and now she lives a great happy life!

My Dog loves our guinea pigs and they cuddle together all the time

That's a really good option if there isn't a rescue near too where you live. Not all pet shops will offer rescue guinea pigs but some do including Pets at Home (in the UK)

I got my guinea pigs from a pet shop and that was before I knew about rescues. They came home with a uri and have never had veggies. If I ever get more piggies I’ll definitely get them from a rescue. I’m happy I did end up with the piggies I have now though and I was able to get them treatment.

There are so many piggies bought from a pet shop who have problems - it's so sad but I'm glad you helped yours get better and they have someone who really cares for them now :)

Thank you for these videos! I am planning on getting two female guinea pigs from a local rodent rescue that I have adopted gerbils from before. They always have plenty of pigs that need homes and the people who run it know each pigs temperament and can match me with the best pigs for me.

The people who disliked were actually a few long hair guinea pigs who couldn’t see the like button.. heh

I have a guinea called cotton. Shes 4 years and a half. Shes depressed like I am as my 2nd guinea died with heart attack or disease. Her name was Phoenix. Im always giving my guinea a cuddle and a massage:3

Thank you for your lovely comment! I totally agree that they're the most gorgeous creatures! Our aim is to help people understand how to care for them properly because there's a lot of misinformation and the pet shops sell guinea pigs but don't provide enough proper care advice when they hand them over to a piggy newbie which has a lot to do with why so many end up in rescue centres or are not correctly looked after. I'm so glad you are making a real effort to find out more about how to care for them :) x

loved your videos, very well presented and with the right information. Can I just add that I also buy timothy hay for my five guineas to eat, and soft timothy hay for their houses, so they can lie in it. This does not stop them eating the soft hay though! I also give them orchard hay sometimes for a treat and put them outside on my lawn in summer so they can enjoy the grass (always supervised). As you mentioned, the cost of keeping them properly does add up, but they are worth it.

Wow, your channel just came up, I subscribed! It's amazing! I've owned piggies for about 4 years now, or 3 and a half, and I have 2 huge c and c enclosures, with 3 piggies in each. That happened because my fifth piggy, a baby Teddy pig, when introduced, fought with a piggy I already had. Actually, it wasn't the newer piggy, but one I already had that didn't like her for whatever reason. I made another very large c and c cage, and put the new piggy and the next youngest together, but it didn't seem like they were that happy, so I adopted a boar, had him neutered, and put him in with the 2 girls. I want to try bonding them all together, but I'm a little scared. Thank goodness I found your channel, I have quite a few I watch, but I never tire of learning about guinea pigs!

They do keep the cage clean and use wood chips as bedding but there are no toys for it to play with. I am thinking about offering to buy it off them and find it a home where it will have company and be looked after properly.

This might be a dumb questions but how often r u supposed to feed them. Hay should be available 24/7 but what about veggies etc.

I want to have pet mice in the future and the guinea pigs would they get along together if they were face to face or would it just start a fight between them

They would need to be in separate cages as you can't put guinea pigs in with other pets. They have different needs such as bedding, food, housing etc.

It depends. Are they all going to be housed together or in pairs? I'm not quite sure what you meant. You can have a neutered male with several females together but don't mix more than 1 male with females as they are likely to fight. You can have 2 males together as a pair but make sure they have plenty of space. I would recommend getting them from a rescue and they will be able to advise you too.

Do you mean for bedding? Fleece liners are good as they absorb the urine :)

What do I do if there teeth grow out

What about the poop and the pee? Are they like rabbits that poop a lot everywhere? Or do they have a “special place” where they always pee and poop?

They will poop everywhere but they will poop more in a dark covered area or where they eat the hay :)

Hello, I’m only allowed to have one Guinea pig but I have a big cage and toys, will this cause depression Becuase I can’t do anything about it and I don’t want it sad :(

You can partially cover the cage with a damp towel - that would help cool it but I wouldn't recommend covering the cage completely

I bought 2 pigs but one of them died. I bought another pig because the other one became very weak and lonely after his death. I saw him biting and pushing my newly bought weak pig. I separated their cages. They are both girls, what do you think I should do? Can they agree?

What if you rehome a Guinea pig. I always see people rehoming guinea pigs on Craigslist.

Rehoming is something we would agree with because there are always circumstances when someone may no longer be able to care for their guinea pigs. Basically, we believe in giving a good home to guinea pigs who need it rather than perpetuating the breeding and selling of babies. As with most pets there are more pets than there are people to look after them and if we could get the balance right it would be a much better world for all these innocent pets. However, I wouldn't recommend anyone advertises their guinea pig for sale on Craigslist or anywhere like this as you don't know who may get hold of them. It is better to ask a rescue to take them on and they can find a suitable new owner. Sorry, that was a long-winded answer to a simple question! :D

Just have a few questions. Are all wheels bad for guinea pigs or are they ok if you get one that is big enough/ why are they bad and could those reasons be avoided with modifications or a home made wheel? Also is there an easy way to sex a Guinea pig yourself (eg defining features, visible genitalia) or do you have to go to get someone check? Would Guinea pigs make use of a cage with more than one level if there is no way to fall and hurt themselves? Thanks, this is one of the first videos I’ve seen about Guinea pigs but I plan on doing a lot more research before thinking about getting any myself.

2 of my Guinea pigs just died I don’t know what or how it happened I took them out to the yard like I always do Left them out 6am till 5pm When I when to pick them up 2 of them were just laying down kind of moving there legs 30 min later they died

The important thing is that they are not in the same space where a rabbit may injure a guinea pig. A rabbit can kick hard and even if unintended could seriously injure a guinea pig. If both were free roaming in the same area, we wouldn't advise it.

When I was in the third grade me and my dad got guinea pigs and his one died from a heat stroke😔

I really want a pair of guinea pigs, and I’d absolutely love to adopt 2 boys, but the nearest shelter with guinea pigs is 3 and a half hours drive from my house! My guardian isn’t willing to drive me that far to rescue some. I’ll continue trying to convince her as I’ve already bought the cage, corflute and fleece, but I’ve also got my eye on this rescue website to see if any piggies miraculously turn up near me. Wish me luck!

We always recommend water bottles because the water in a bowl will get contaminated with their poops and bits of bedding etc so it's difficult to keep clean. It may also get tipped and make the cage wet.

I am going to get 2 guinea pigs really soon, like in 3 days. They are 2 girls. And it is my first time having guinea pigs, i have 2 cats and a dog. But my dog just killed a rabbit from our neighbours so i gotta be rlly carefull. It was while we were on vacation. And i feel really sorry for my neighbours :( so we are going to get them a new rabbit.

It can take some time for them to adjust. Have you got a friend for him? He will be much happier if he has another guinea pig (not a female though unless he's neutered). A rescue centre will be able to help with finding a suitable male to bond him with.

It's important to make sure they're supersafe so do make sure your cage is sturdy and that it has a top, just in case your dog does happen to get into your room.

I know this is weird but guinea pig vet treat ment where I live is cheap my guinea pig once had here cornea ripped out do to her mate but it was only 200 for the x-rays medicine daily vet vists daily x-rays weekly new medical medicine changes too she better now but it was like that for 2 months

1. Teeth: his teeth are perfect 2. Other pets: I only have a leopard gecko and he doesn't mind her, she's fine with him to 3.boredom: I bring him out to free roam at least 3 times a week 4. What not to buy: I hate harnesses, no hamster wheels, and the last thing is a NO NO 5. Temperature: he's kept at the same temp as me 6: Heatstroke: he's near my room door so no direct sunlight 7. Cost. We have no problem with his cost 8. Insurance. Idk if my mom has this covered yet 9. What sex: we got him from a breeder, aka my brothers girlfriend 10. Rescue center's: I got him from a breeder? Is that ok? Tell me it I need to fix anything!!!

You're doing really well. The only thing I would say is that we are pro-adoption as there are so many piggies in shelters in need of homes. Also, does he have a companion? I hate when people say don't buy from pet shops. Those guinea pigs need a home too, they are trapped in tiny cages in disgusting conditions
