How to catch 6 PIKE in 96 MINUTES! Lure fishing 👶

Ойын-сауық

Lure fishing for pike on the lancaster canal with a 5 month old baby! Quick smash and grab ended with more pike than i've ever had in one day on the canal. The Rapala Husky Jerk was the star of the show, and has quickly become my favourite lure for targetting the smaller pike. I know it's been a while since my last pike video, i've just been giving the canals a rest for a bit while i try to get to grips with fly fishing. Feels great to be back on the lanky 🎣

    Replacement arrived!By the way, I did forget to mention that the original lure did have a decent strike however as most anglers will attest you can get a hit kzread.infoUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 and fish will hang on and release lure. I used the replacement lure yesterday and ran thru a Shimano Waxwing, Kastmaster, Bobber (set to sink). I found the does run deep (I casting on the flats 3.5'). Make sure you adjust your rate of retrieve and rod tip angle (up) to prevent getting snagged on bottom. Used it a couple of times and action was very lifelike (looked like local bait fish for trevally), craftsmanship very good....however eyeball fell out. I asked for replacement and it is on it's way! It was very easy to change out treble to single inline hook.

    Great job! Pike are so much fun to catch! Along the canal, do some people live on the boats year round? That would be an interesting way to live. Here in the states some people do that. I’ve caught some big Pike on the Rapala Shad Rap. Give that one a try if you haven’t used it before. They also make a jointed Shad Rap that is pretty cool.

    Awesome action! A gross but effective tip is to smear the blood on the lure, and it's a great fish attractant. Husky jerks work great here in the Detroit River and Lake St. Clair in the US, where we have lots of really fat pike that don't get very long due to warm summer temperatures. A 3 foot fish is a really big one here, but we can catch mid 20s to low 30s inch fish all day long. It's also an awesome trolling lure, run way back. Pumping motions often get them to nail it. The countdown minnow is also great for casting, and the 13cm fatter bodied X-Rap jointed shad is great for good sized fish, either cast or trolled. definitely have a go at those ones.

    The best lure for canal pike i found was the rap all super shad rap in natural roach finish. I used to work mine by throwing it out 10-15 ft from the bank and then i would start walking the tow path, towing the lure behind me. It always got nailed as it came in closer to the bank and not just by pike but perch as well, i heartily recommend trying it, yes i know its big but they love it. Oh i used to fish mine with a 6ft bait casting rod and reel ( the john Wilson one) loaded with braid, tight lines.

    I have the same color husky jerk 14cm and it seems to be the best of all my rapalas for perch here in Finland. Best when you jerk it really hard so it really flashes and rattles. I have only gotten small pikes on it so far. It doesn't seem to be so effective for big pike. Unlike the Super Shad rap 14cm in perch color, that seems to bring big Nordhern pikes nearly every time. The shape of the lure seems to play a big roll. It really needs to like like the prey the fishes hunt.

    Great session, im learning about pike fishing still and every proper guide i find seems to say either float or ledger but what i see most people catching on is just lures with no weight. I was out today with a ball weight and float and caught nothing, although i was also trying to jig the bait about a bit by reeling it in slowly. Am i right in thinking you have nothing but the leader and the lure? Is there a name for this type of pike fishing and is there a time when you would stop doing this? E.g when it gets colder?

  • @adventurefishinguk

    @adventurefishinguk

    7 ай бұрын

    Just wire trace with a lure clipped on that's all you need! You can catch pike all year round doing this. Using deadbaits can be more productive when the water is really cold though as the fish are more lethargic and less likely to chase something down. In winter use bigger lures with slower presentation!

    Well the small ones are easy to catch though. Still nice when they do. They grow damn clever when getting older though! Saw them underwater with camera checking a baitfish over and over for hours! They blow with they mouth or with their breast fins if the fish goes up a bit. If it doesn’t move up they don’t take it. They come back later and do it again. And again and again. They won’t take the bait!
