Love it Colin! Your teaching style is easy to learn from. It helps me with my own Photoshop techniques. Thank you for this wonderful tutorial!
That is an excellent way to incorporate shadows, particularly if you are dealing with figures, thank you, Colin.
Thank you, Collin. Your instructional pace is perfect for me. I was able to follow easily and understand all the subtle commands. I did not have to keep pausing and replay like other channels. Keep up the good work.
Love the tip of using the gradient, and I never really had a good use for Field blur until now - that was amazing. Thank you Colin!
That was really cool. And thank you for explaining every step like that. Sometimes knowing WHERE to click makes all the difference.
That’s a much better way to create a cast shadow with so much control. Thanks for the great tip.👍🏼
This is the BEST technique I've seen for this (and I think I've tried them all). A major CONGRATULATIONS to you Colin.
Great stuff. Thank you for the written instructions. I appreciate how well you explain things.
I've been needing to know how to do this for a long time. Thank you Colin, great tutorial!

Oh boy what a learning curve for me. Multiple layer masks as trying to do composites so had to learn how to combine into one layer mask for the gradient layer. Managed it . Only thing I could do was the fianl field blur as that was greyed out. What an excellent tutorial. Big thank you! have subscribed!!!

I try to keep things are understandable as I can
I just tried it out on one of my own images - it works amazingly well, and a lot easier than using dropshadow and then ad gradient. Thank you (once again)

Awesome! Thats what I want to hear. I love it when tuts work on peoples actual images :)
Oh, Thank you so much! I had requested a while a go a way to make an object looks like it's sitting on a surface, not hovering over it, and the trick was getting the pivot point set on the right place and then play around with the free transform tool, that solved my problem. Awesome!

Photoshop has been an especially frustrating software for me to pick up. Just as I was getting very frustrated with other tutorials because they weren't "click for click" identical to my version and what I was trying to accomplish, I found your video. Thank you for the straight forward explanation, you just saved me from a bad mood. Subscribed.
great explanation thank you...
This is niiiiiiice! Thank you Colin:-)
Thank you Colin
nice job learn so much cheers
Great tutorial!
As a fairly new user, I learned a lot. Thank you

Muchas gracias! :)
Great. Shadows.. more please. Thanks a lot.
PERFECT!!!!!
A useful technique. I knew you were going to make the effects into a layer, but I thought you were going to use the drop shadow effect to do it. This is interesting and jumps a few steps. Here's tip, you can hold the command key (Mac) or Control key (Windows) to adjust the Transform item as a Skew or Distort.
Thank you sir.
as always - bite sized tips for the "real" world : ) thanks!!!
Very good tutorial sir
That's a cool shadow technique! I will definitely use this in my product photography. Thank you!
Thank you
very good I like it
Amazing
This was great. I need some more practice with the field blur. My settings look different, with CC 2021 PSD. I couldn't get that much a difference in sharpness of front of shadow compared to back. I think I've got something good enough for today's needs though.
Getting the shadow at the beginning was really informative. How to use it artistically - well, that's gonna be the fun for us. Nice simple technique that seems to produce good results quickly. What would I really like to see for your channel? An index that lets me find techniques from the many different videos you've done, easily.

Thats a good suggestion, where would I display it?

@@photoshopcafe Is there a character limit to the info section? If there isn't, perhaps you can make a video introducing highlights from your index as a slide show, with an index of links to the individual videos in the info section. If there's a way to pin that video at the top of your channel's listings, that would make it easy to find. As you add more videos, update the index with the links to the new videos.

@@photoshopcafe ideally as a fully up-to-date spreadsheet (dashboard approach)/database list on a website. In the long run that makes it easier for you. Keeping it within KZread channel will be a good place to start but becomes more difficult to use. Intermediate approach would be an email feed but that had its own issues. On a spreadsheet dashboard it could even have a column that shows which version of PS it can be used from - especially as you have been doing it so long 😉 Whichever is cost effective and easy to use for all abilities, I do hope it happens. I'm sure it will be a first. Hey, maybe KZread can help!
So easy and effective

There are so many little things in Photoshop. Hand around, lots more to come!
cast shadows are so difficult for me - I feel dyslexic LOL - I've tried a few different ways - this one seem better - thanks, you are the best teacher.
i am really impressed how you manage to make the video so long
WOW
Brillant
I need to know how i would mask inner glow (for example on an object or person) on a complicated subject so that only chosen areas are under this result of this FX. It is either on or off.
smart !
But can you readjust the gradient fade at the end as to me the fade doesnt seem to be in the right place
dig that guitar :-)
Good overview thanks! Why not use the 3D features in photoshops to do shadows? Might be less steps...especially if you create a standard shadow template document.

Thats definitely another option. although 3D in PS takes forever to render.
Now I am Learn how to add shadow, Thanks brother. Can I make it CS3 vesion?
@photoshopcafe
4 жыл бұрын
You can, some of the tools may be a little different and there is no field blur, but you can, I have another tutorial on shadows that will work in CS3.
Any suggestions how i could make this into an action, and be repeated multiple times? I have 259 product-pictures i want to retouch ;)
Hello My dear Mentor, I am interested in making trifold and bifold mockup in Photoshop cc 2020. As such I am looking and searching the same for quite a long time. But unfortunately I did not find any one of them. But actually what I found there are some kind of duplicate and/or copy/paste. I shall be thankful to you if you please make a tutorial on trifold and bifold brochures so that your followers are benefited themselves. Thank you very much. Dharani M Barman
Nice ((:))
Ufffff EVH on your wall 🥵🔥

I have another tut on a simpler method, that wan't my goal here, it was realism and people notice the difference in images where a little more effort is put in.
There is a much easier way to do this . . .

Easier is not always better, the title says "better" way, not easier. I have other videos for easy way.
looks like a fake cast shadow. don't make bad tutorials.
