Great video. I have just made the jump into carving spoons and while I have a long way to go, I have learned much from your videos and feel like I am improving with each spoon. Keep up the good work.

Great clear, concise and methodical tutorial. I'm very much a novice at the moment, so this looks like a doable project. Thanks Dave. 👍

Greetings from the Philippines 🇵🇭 Thank you so much for sharing your video. Your instructions are very interesting and inspiring. I am new in spoon carving. The spoon project is simple enough for me as a beginner to be able to do. I am logging to make my first Kayak spoon for my granddaughter. Thank you so much, I’ll follow your channel, blessings.

If you want or have to cut towards chest I hold knife at angle do muscle in thum hits you and point is away from you I also made a chest protector from scraps of material like layers of leather or old cop stab vest works well. Ask a cobbler near you if he’s got any scraps of leather to make a chest protector two holes at top bit of paracord big enough to go over head and your done resting a spoon against your sternum can make holes in clothes and be painful so a chest protector is a plus ✅ 👍🇮🇹🐾🦊

New subscriber here... and a total noob at carving/whittling. I like your videos a lot! Just wondering, is there a technique you can demonstrate for carving the bowl without using the spoon gouge? I don't have one myself, so I'll try using a small knife and a lot of patience. Hopefully it will work.

Once your spoon is dry I always use vegetable oil then put spoon in oven brings grain out. Hardens it too only keep it in oven till desired colour is achieved leaving it in too long will burn and be brittle 👍🇮🇹🐾🦊

Sharpening hook knives can be made fairly easier by buying modellers sanding sticks. They come in almost any grit up to 2500, I think, and are really inexpensive. 👍
