Not many things can grab my attention in life the way you and your videos have. Sat on my floor with a drape cloth down and rewound this video over a thousand times thoroughly following step by step and the feeling I got when my owl turned out was special. Can’t stop looking at this little owl you helped me make. I can’t thank you enough. Seriously the most proud of myself I’ve been in a very long time

I felt the same way after carving my first spoon. And I USE it. It's already all nicely coloured from the tea it goes into.
Doug, I always enjoy your videos - you make it seem so simple and easy, but also the way you describe things is so calming. These days that's hugely valuable. Thank you for the work you do.
Doug is the Bob Ross of carving 😊”just make some happy little triangles “ I know he didn’t say “happy” but it was implied

Glad to see you back with your carving knife. I'll give the owl a shot - I know my Mom would love one. Thanks as always. Ron
Wow... I was going to ask you again, to do an Owl, and here you are... You've done it🤗. Love Owls, all birds really, but Owls and Hummingbirds are my favourite. Thank you Doug. UK.
I already commented once but I had to let you know that I just completed this project and it's a lot of fun. Fast and easy and looks great. Thanks Doug
Great to see More of Doug !! still pretty amazing how a chunk of would can be worked into such creative fun characters!
Yesterday I received a nice little Helvie carving knife so today I plan to attempt my first owl Doug I have found your videos calming, soothing and inspirational thank you
Fantastic carving! I had been searching for owls to carve but I didn’t love what was out there. I think the belly pattern is so cool. Thank you!! I can’t wait to try.
I stumbled across this video 4 days ago. Since then, I’ve watched almost all of your carving videos. Yesterday I went to my local wood shop and picked up a knife, strop and some bass wood. You’ve inspired me to try a new hobby. Currently I make furniture and small projects from reclaimed lumber. This will be a nice addition to my hobby that doesn’t require power tools and a lot of setup. Thanks for the wonderful videos. I’m looking forward to learning how to carve!
i loved playing with wood when i was a kig, i loved building stuff with left overs from the furniture factory nearby...i loved the smell of cut wood, of forests, love to explore the nature and i always wanted to do something with wood, work with my hands. As i rent a flat i always dreamd what i will do in my own house when i will have it. By chance i found your channel and i can see i just need a corner of a table to enjoy this hobby. thank you Doug.
I did it, too! Pretty pleased with myself, actually. I’m struggling with all the fuzzies but maybe that’s common with a beginner. Can’t wait to start another something - your videos and instructions are easy to follow and making this so enjoyable. Thanks, Doug!
Bought carving tools a few years ago but never used them...didn't know where to start. I love the little owl..going to give him a try! Thanks for the carving lesson!
Thanks Doug, just carved this as my first carving, turned out great! Thanks for taking the time to share your carving knowledge, keep the projects coming...
Thank you Doug!! I just made my first owl yesterday (second project so far!!) I love your videos. Really helpful and inspiring for getting into this new hobby. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
Really appreciate the dimension and measurements at the beginning. Makes it easy getting started. also allows scaling up to larger sizes. I can envision a whole family of owls in the tree out in the yard. Thanks for sharing.
So glad to see you carving again I look forward to each one you put on. And I really appreciate how you talk us through each step.
I carved the owl with just one knife and it turned out great!!! I LOVE your videos!!! I watch them several times each!!
Hey Doug! Just finished carving the owl myself, tomorrow I will give it to my grandma as a birthday present, I’m sure she will adore it. Thank you from Hungary, Keep up the good work!
Afternoon Doug! I have carved this little owl so many times and in different sizes since watching your video. Great conversation starter and kids love them. Some veteran carvers have watched while I do larger ones. I get nothing but praises and I always send them to your site. Keep up the good work.
I could watch you for hours just like watching old Bob Ross shows but I just can't wait to try some of your carvings thanks so much for showing us your tricks and tips of your trade
Always interested in watching someone craft something by hand. Nice little project, nicely executed. Good to see his Finneganness making his cameo. They truly are the stars of the show.
Wow great job and great idea sir. I’ve given a bunch of your bears away to people at the hospital and children at the food bank. Smiles all around!!! I hope I could do the same with your owls. Bless you brother.

Wish I could master carving. What a super idea you have. I volunteer at my local pantry. We have about 280 families. Many elderly without family and many unemployed families with small kids. How I wish I could bring smiles to even just one. Our town is 1900 people. They rerouted a highway which in turn killed our economy.

Doug, I started carving because of your videos. The first thing I did was the five minute wizard. It was respectable. Your instruction and videos are the clearest and easiest to follow of all the carving videos. The work isn’t being hidden by your hands. I swear you seem to have some videography skills too. A true renaissance man for today’s age.
Just a thank you. I've made and gave away seven Simple Santa's and twenty of these Owls. I found them to be a lot of fun because I could use all the crayons to color them. Again, thank you. Mike in San Antonio, TX
Doug, I think you're now officially Bob Ross with a knife. Just as enjoyable, relaxing, and educational. I look forward to every episode.
Another great tutorial Doug 👍🏻 When I first saw the chest feathers I was pretty sure I knew how you did it ......... I wasn't even close. Learning little tricks like that is one reason of many why I continue coming back.
TOTALLY BRILLIANT. I've made alot of Close Friends on-line that have become so important over the last 11yrs and Christmas time I send them a card...But this year I want to send something that will show how much they mean to me. I CAN DO THIS, and I can give each one a personality, I am so excited. because finding this now means I have time. Thankyou so much Doug.
Wonderful idea Doug!!! I REALLY like your little carving and now I've got yet ANOTHER one of your carvings to try!!! Glad you're enjoying your 'DRAKE' knives!!! Gil and Bonny Drake are great people & talented woodcarvers plus they make SUPER knives, gouges and other carving tools! Thanks again and safe carving and bushcrafting to you and yours ALWAYS!!!
This was my first carving experience and I was so excited about it I couldn’t put it down: I loved it and thought the tutorial was great! Thank you!
I’d love to see your over the top version of this. With adding all your details using different tools etc. thanks Doug always enjoy these
Thank you Doug...I'm slowly learning your catalog of carvings. Your a great teacher and a inspiration.
Doug you always make me smile. You bring back memories of Mr Rogers. Which is a very good thing. Most times I just listen to your videos then I’ll watch later. I’m very handy but I’m a bit afraid to try the whittling. I don’t like to fail and think I’m gonna mess up. Silly I know. Btw you would make a great pastor with your demeanor and your encouragement. God bless dude.
Doug I have to say that the method you use to show how to do each project is great , no stress in following and as I said before you never talk down to us .zkeep up the great work.
May 2020 I started wood carving (for the first time using a box cutter) with your easy to follow demo, since then after the so called protocol implementation to be safe from covid, I've done a lot with the proper tools. . .all of this was inspired by you. In fact I made a video and recreated this owls. I posted it on my channel. Just so you know I've acknowledge in my video description that I recreated your design. I am a fan and thank Mr Doug Linker.
Awesome, I’m trying one now . New to this but getting better at it . Keep up showing how to do things, it helps a lot of us . Can’t wait for more.
I agree it looks a lot better then the 5 min owl. You continue to impress. Can't wait to give it a try. Keep up the great work.
Started carving a week ago after watching a few of your videos. You are a very talented character and fun to watch. At 65 years old, an iPad and not so good wifi in the garage, I wish you had a couple of lower gears. Love your stuff and keep them coming. If you ever have the urge to slow down, I’m not going to complain.
You got me carving a few months ago. Thanks for the new hobby Doug! Love the owl. Going to give him a try this week.
I can't believe how this owl has gone viral in the carving community!! I've done one and think everyone who owns a carving knife has done one. Great creation and great video tutorial, Doug. Thank you!
I cannot remember when l had more fun watching anything, thankyou so much for sharing, this is so beautifjjl
Adorable owls. Great tutorial. The auction idea someone mentioned sounds like a winner to me but if you are anything like my dad, he wouldn't part with any of his crafts for money. He said it would take the joy out of it. I am glad that you share your talent with us. I wish my dad would have tutored us kids a little.
I just started carving/whittling today and your videos specifically the 5 minute wizard one is the one that finally got me to try it I got my knives today with a wooden spoon blank but after I finish it I'm going to be trying this and the t minute wizard thank you so much for your videos man
Nicely done! I followed along on this one and carved one myself. I haven’t done something like that since carving a little man along with Sharon’s videos a couple years ago. My owl is not as refined as yours, but I’ll get there soon enough after making a few more. I’ve been looking for a simple carving that I can complete well within a lunch hour at work. These will be fun to do ... and everyone at work will have one! Thanks!
Doug, I carved this owl and wow it turned out great. I painted the eyes only and stained the rest of the owl. thank you, thank you!
Absolutely love watching your whittling videos and picked up a lot and will start making some. I am quite new to this whittling game, but find it very therapeutic. Thanks from the UK for giving mr the inspiration. Keep them coming! Thank you for sharing. Ian
I agree the Bob Ross of carving, happy little owlets. Doug your cuts are so fluid and your voice so soothing. I really enjoy your vids. Just purchased my first knife, been meaning to carve for a long time.
Just carved my fist Owl, and have done your Bear and Simple Santa. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and talent. Man am I enjoying my new found hobby and learning the ropes from your videos.
Doug, I've been carving for years and I still find your videos totally entertaining. Keep it up. You do excellent work!
i love your voice when you are carving it makes me want to watch and not miss anything you my friend are the BOB ROSS of whittling and carving i have done the hill billy and the five min wizard you are a great teacher thank you so much for your tutorials you have made a whittling mad man LOVEEEEEE IT
Another home run Doug! Easy to follow along and perfect for a beginner. These would make cute ornaments for a Christmas tree too. Thanks for the tutorial ✌️
That is awesome, I think I can do that! On vacation next week and was looking for a small carving project. Already do the 3 minute owl, been leaving them in the woods when I hike for others to find. Thanks Doug!
Doug you are my hero, love woodcarving the way you taught me in your videos, and gave me the peace and rest in my head, thanks for that carving king 🤴
Great video, Doug. Clear, linear, detailed and easy for me to follow. Yay! More videos! David
Hello Doug and thank you. My Grandkids will enjoy these.
You're an inspiration, I've decided to get some carving tools and also get back to carving crystals with diamond files, thankyou so much, brilliant tutorials love how you describe how to, and your voice is so calming, a lovely joy ❤️
I just carved my first bearded guy watching your videos, it came out great!! And I have no idea what I'm doing but you make it easy to follow, now to try this owl! Thanks for the videos ❤️
Doug here is a job you can take into your old age and when sat on the old rocker whittle away to your heart's content. Cheers Mate for sharing your passions!
Glad you made these, I enjoy watching and learning from you. I just finished making an owl for my 3 year old daughter. That makes 2 projects completed watching your videos.
Thanks Doug for another fantastic lesson. I followed along pausing etc. I think you have solved a problem I have carving a small owl necklace found in Woodcarving Illustrated. Your technique for the feathers is what I will use for these little owl necklaces. I can see several more of these will be carved. I am sure they will get better the more I work at it. Thank again
Nice Job, Doug. Please keep them (carving videos) coming!
You make my day when I see another tutorial from the master! Thanks for another great little project. Even us kids who have passed the three-quarter century mark can enjoy this one...
Thank you so much! Was not able to find a descent Owl carving video. Yours is perfect as usual. Keep posting carving videos!
I have done a number of your tutorials and have enjoyed them all even all the 1” dowel tutorials. However, I really enjoyed and loved the final product of this carving. I especially liked the vest and all the various colors you used.
I finally got around to carving a couple of owls per your tutorial. They came out good. I have done quite a bit of carving now and have learned a lot from you. I really enjoy the canoeing, fishing, camping, & carving videos. Much better quality entertainment than TV. Thanks so much !

I will be making this tomorrow. Thanks Doug! 👍🏼😉
Tnx's Doug, A really great carving to do. I found the 3 finished owls in the background a very useful reference, while following you carve.
Thanks. That's a great carving. I really like the belly feather detail. Never would have thought of that. Really added some great detail to it. Thanks again
Doug, I really enjoy your videos and have started carving using you inspirations. Sequencing of the steps is a problem for me, at least for now, but I discovered that under the three dots below your video is a tab for a transcript. I have printed your commentary and it is a great help to me while carving. Watching your great videos is inspiration and the transcripts help me remember what you said on the video. Thanks again from an "Old Geezer" who still wants to learn something new every day.
My wife got me a whittling kit for Christmas and this was my first project after a couple of practices with the different cuts. I tried the 5 minute owl that was in the book but wasn’t happy with it very boring to look at and barely looks like an owl even in the book. Doing ur owl felt much more rewarding at the end and ur instructions r spot on thank u.
Wonderfully clear video Doug. Thanks, got to go give a try at making one. I really like the way you break the carving down into very understandable and easy to complete segments step by step. Cheers, Michael O. Alabama,USA
After watching all your intro videos to whittling this little guy was my first project...he took me all afternoon but he is adorable! My goal is to carve him on hiking sticks for my two grand babies! Thanks for your detailed videos and for sharing your talent!
Oh Doug...thanks so much...i really needed a nice carving vid from ya....and now i got it....thanks buddy...i needed it bad...you are like a good and old friend to me...so grateful! god bless you...peace!
This is my favorite tutorial of yours so far! I really enjoyed doing this little owl. Great video Doug!
I’m Was so happy to see you posted a new video...and than I saw my fav bird! Thanks Doug, this will be my 3th woodcarving project 😁
Thank you I am about to try carving because I love wood the feel the smell going to have a go at this owl hopefully will still have enough fingers left to play my guitar thank you again really great teaching
Got half way through and realized I needed a coffee., looks great.
I wish I would have found this video about 10 years ago when my hands still worked. I think your OWLS are SUPER, all different kinds of character and colorful to boot. I'd buy one if I knew you would sell me one.
Hooked on these little Owls, so much so, I’m halfway through a chess set of them. All lined up ready to paint like a Parliament of Chess Owls 😀👍🏼

those 46 dislikes are people who tried to be cool didnt wear the glove and cut themselves badly A&E badly, wear your gloves folks they make you even feel more confident about the cuts your making' its the feeling you need to grasp once you have that you can literally think up a carving in your head and do it safely with or without gloves but id highly recommend gloves they are called steel mesh carving gloves and please buy good ones . thanks Doug youve helped alot .
I love the way you do these videos, since the first time i saw one of your vids, i knew id be watching all of yours i can find. You point out things so well . As a beginner i have learned so much from you, Thanks Doug for the very well done tutorials, please keep them coming.
Love the details. Had a lot of fun with this as my first whittling project. Learned a lot, really appreciate your efforts in making this.
I started following you for the camping, but you have turned me into a carver. I have always wanted to try your little men, but I have been doing spoons until I get a feel for the basics. This little owl, I think, will be my first caricature. Someday, you need to do a meetup/class. I'd love to attend.
Thank-You very much Doug, sure was a nice little project to do, like the idea of carving outside Ect gives us some quality time with nature peace and quiet!
I have been looking all types of carving to see what I like best. You're a amazing carver!!!! I noticed that you have alot of who to's videos. And you seem to be a great teacher.

Didn't have a carving knife or Bass wood but i had my pocket knife and soap!!! I have a little white owl! Thank you!!
Doug, loved the little owls so much I made a dozen for the children at Church and will make more, they will love them as much as I do making then. I still like my Smokey Mountain comical Bears at 6” tall but they are more involved. Actually they are original to a fine carver from Townsend TN. Keep em comeing my friend God bless
Not to detract from Gene or Sharon, but I find your teaching style the most relatable. Thank you for what you do.
Thanks! My first carving. I just bought a 4pc Flexcut box set, and a Flexcut Carvin' Jack.
Took me four hours to carve,,, turned out pretty good! Thanks for your vids and instruction.
I just made the most messed up owl carving and it is fabulous! I accidentally cut off the beak but she was still pretty. This is my favorite video so far! Just learning. Thank you!
Thanks Doug, this is a great video you have a real gift, I’m going to sit down and do this one right now.
Doug I tried your owl for my first carving of the new year. Not to bad for my first try. Thank you for all of your videos you do they have helped my a lot and that what got me into carving to begin with. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the video, this was my first attempt at whittling....now I have owls everywhere!
Made the owl today Doug, really pleased with it, although it's flawed. Didn't cut myself this time! Great tuition as always, thank you!
