9$ is cheap. The cheapest I’ve found is $30 or so (AUD so that’s probably cheaper for you)

They're also surprisingly DENSE, I didn't know they were actual balls, I thought they were like a moss covered plastic ball that people made by hand but there 100% algae xD

Good tip, didn’t know about the fridge, I do clean them every water change though, I squeeze the gunk out in the bucket.

I was moving across the country in the winter and left my moss in a glass water bottle by accident in my car overnight. It froze solid. I left it just to see what happened and… It loved it.

Omg...Thank you Soo much for this info. I've just removed mine from my Aquarium. It's a mess. I usually rinse and clean it during water changes. I never heard of cleaning and adding water, and into the Fridge. I will "definitely, give this a try. "Hopefully, I will see Green again. Thank's! Such Great Info.❤😊

I use to have moss balls in my tanks but moved on from keeping them. I use to tear them in half or thirds and make like a little "carpet" for my shrimp (flatten moss out)and you could put small pieces (mold to shape) on driftwood branches. My shrimp loved them.

@@MagicallyMusical they don't die if you tear them, they're very resilient. If you roll them back into a ball and secure it with a bit of string they recover pretty quickly.

Great information. I was wondering how it'd be possible to keep a cold water plant with betas and other tropicals.

Thanks for the info! I had ordered some mossballs online to throw in my tanks as well as just to keep as pets on their own & one of them arrived looking more olive green than dark green & I was worried about it not getting enough light. Since there's nothing in the bowl it's in besides a fake plant & a mermaid ornament, I'll try putting it in the fridge & see if that'll revive it. :D

I.. Kinda like to run the tank on max flow on my betta and the java loaches move them around I started with two small ones now I have about four miss shapened ones that are pretty large

can't wait to have these in my tank. They're great addition for my Betta!

i have one , well two i cut it in half got it just over a year ago looks just like when i got it nice and green i stopped trying to place them because the corys all ways move them around , the shrimp keep them clean , i do at times add some salt (not much) temp is set at 78 i use kent and seachem plantfood and all is well , thanks for the vid didnt know it was a ball of algae , learn something everyday

I got some shrimp (Velvet blues) in the way. Figured I get some moss balls for them and add some live plants to my tank

Wasn’t going to like or comment until the “everyone owns a fridge” line. 😆 Great tip about keeping them cold for a bit.

Mind get a good squeeze during a weekly water change. Had them 2 years, no vacation and they are still clean and deep green

I live in a warm climate and the room I want to keep them(as decoration no fish/animals) and during the summer it gets quite hot, if I do that once a week will it be fine, would it be helpful to keep a thermometer, and drop ice if the temperature gets too high?

Btw something you didn't say, make sure you don't compact them to much as the middle needs a little light to, if it's to tight it will rot from the inside

I just split my big 4 inch one into 15 little pieces, I will give them vacation and see if they start to grow!

The frig vacation is a new one on me. Do you think once/month is sufficient? Also, what about fertilizer? Say if that is the only think you have in your betta tank, how much do you fertilize it?

I got a moss ball for my turtle but she kept running it over and just swatting it so i took it out to put in a separate tank so it can grow bigger.

I used to have a bunch of moss balls and I used to put them under cold running water but I was in the process of moving and had my grandma watch my beta tank and they died:( I recently got one last month and a cory catfish. I'm going to try the vacation thing to see if it makes him nice and green. He's still a little green but I've noticed that hes not *as* vibrant

I am having a problem with one of my marimo balls. I had four of them in my corydora tank. They were doing well. I took the biggest one out to put in my goldfish tank. I thought it would do well in there. After about a week I noticed a big brown spot. I tried to clean it by pulling the loose brown stuff off and put it back in my corydora tank. Is there anything I can do to help it to do well again. Should I do the fridge idea at this point? Or is it too late to save it?

would it be beneficial or harmful if i were to keep a glass of tap water in the fridge and when i notice the water too warm, change it out with the cold tap water?

I have one of these things and I had no Idea what it was... everything in the tank died but that so I felt bad packing up the tank so I just moved it to my basement... I put water in it once a month or so and forget he was in there... well long story short is I am getting all my tanks back up and running again and there he was in my little 5 gallon tank filled up with alge and untouched for for 2 or 3 years.... he looks great! Still green but a bit bigger... so I finally found something I can not kill!

One of mine arrived kinda brown and after putting them in my tropical tank it’s looking pretty rough. Refrigerating them will really help it?

I used moss balls in my betta tank. He did not care for them. I added them to my goldfish tank and they love playing with them. They are lopsided and a little brown. I did not know I needed to clean them and I did not know they like the fridge. Thanks for the video
