I got my guy a few months ago from a lady who didn't want him anymore. he's about 12" and she gave him to me in a 50 gallon. I broke down my 125 saltwater, deeply cleaned it, and set it up for the oscar. he's MUCH happier now. in the 50 he would violently shake his face at the glass. In the 125 he now comes up to me when i walk up to the tank for food and interaction.

Another great vid bro. As a large SA cichlids keeper I agree, hith (hole in the head) is caused by a number of factors. Poor diet, stress and water quality being the primary causes. Best treatment is to concentrate on these factors to reverse the condition. Oscars was one of my first cichlids and they are great wet pets. Keep up the great work mate.

I like how your channel feels like we are watching a person not a talk show like some of the other fish channels. I have a 9'' Red Tiger Oscar. He has always been great and I have never had a problem with how he acts, but he randomly darts around the tank every now and then but really aggressively. He also will ''scratch his side on the bottom and parts of some decorations. Idk if this is normal. I've had since it was like 3 inches.appreciated

Excellent video IFG! These awesome giants need more videos from experienced, caring hobbyist. One of the first things I noticed after buying my 2, there's not allot of GOOD information on these guys. I've owned fish since I was in elementary school, these are one of the easiest fish to take care of, all they require and want is clean water a proper tank size and a proper diet which is "aquarium hobby 101" in my opinion. I'm actually rescuing an Oscar that was surrounded today at a privately owned LFS, one of the owners asked me if I'd like to take him because he is not adjusting well to being brought into a store. Needless to say I'll be picking him up at 2 and I'm so excited to bring him home. I do have a question, I plan on trying to integrate him with the 2 I have and my plan is to put up a divider at first, do you have any experience with doing this and if so, do I just give them time and observe their behavior or will adding another be somewhat comparable to adding new Haps to a tank, meaning some aggressive behaviour might happen at first no matter what and to just watch them and separate if it looks to be not settling down? I so wish there was more readily available information such as this, instead of all the "let's see if my oscar will eat this fish BS" makes me want to scream, THEY ARE NOT TOYS!! Happy Holidays!!!

In total i have 20kg of bio media ( volcanic rock/noodles and ceramic bakki balls....my nitrates take 3 weeks to reach 5-10 ppm with 0 ppm ammonia and 0 ppm nitrite. 32 cm tiger oscar, caught him creek caught feeders, 100 a week, frozgen blood worms and shrimp, 4foot tank, 28oc degree, filter 1500 fliters an hour, fed on good pallets, he lived over 10 years he would chew on crayfish every few days, hole in the head comes purely down to lack of water changes and low filtering for an unclean tank

I believe the red devil is a female. The dome on the head is not predominant like I've seen on some males. And as for now they get along pretty well. The jack Dempsey is smaller. But like I said they all seem to get along with each other. I do have a 60 gallon but need parts for it. I had to move into an apartment so don't have much room for anything bigger. The Oscar has been in the 55 gallon his whole life. I've had him for 4 years now he was a baby when I got him.

I have one he’s about 6 months old he’s already reached about 10 inches I think I’ll have to measure him but he’s in a 75 gallon basically by himself with only two large pieces of drift wood on the ground because I have a common pleco about the same size. I have a bio filter set up with a huge sponge filter

We have two Oscars, about a year old, in a 65 gallon tank with about 6 other fish. They're still swimming with plenty of room right now at about 6"-7" long, but I am planning out a 150 gallon tank that I will be building for them in the very near future

How did that go? Hopefully the homemade tank worked out

@@JacobDaDJ never got around to building it. Ended up finding a 125 long on marketplace for $300 with enough accessories to make it about an $800 value, so I couldnt pass it up. Anyway, long story short, the missus at the time got me into fish keeping. She cheated, left the fish with me, I lost the passion for them and ended up selling everything off about a year ago
