The biggest misconception about ceramic coating that I think many have is, that you don't need to look after your car or it's easier to wash. You need to have exactly the same routine and respect for your car as if you just use wax or sealant. The difference is the appearance after and as long as you wash correctly, swirls are much harder to get. But ceramic coating is NOT and maintenance free solution. But if you can't be bothered to clean you car properly, then ceramic is not for you.

very informative videos on the ceramic coating topic. Having trouble with water spots only on the hood/bonnet of a 5mth old car that had ceramic coating treatment. Had not heard that the morning spray from the hose to clear mist/frost from windows in winter, could leave water spots from the splash not being dried. Seems the likely culprit, however, what to do on occasions where a car is rained on and obviously can't be dried off. I assumed the hydrophobioc effect was supposed to be precisely to stop spotting.

Difficult to stop rain water from evaporating on the car and leaving contaminates behind. I live in a hard water area and consequently I fill 25litre plastic jerries at a demineralised water machine. Water from these machines is used by window cleaners' for the non drying method to avoid any water spots. Works superbly well on the car using the suction function on the Karcher. My car has front end PPF and Ceramic on the rest of the body and wheels. Now retired, I enjoy washing the car (no waxing necessary) after half a lifetime of hand wash services.

Jason - appreciate the video & your channel in general! I've learned a lot from your videos. I'm currently going through the process of ceramic coating my vehicle and for those of us that want to maintain our paint post coating, but aren't going to go to the extreme of doing so properly, can you do a video for ideas / suggestions for the average person. For example, if we're going to use an auto wash or manual wash car wash, what would be the best kind / style of car wash to use. What spray products should we avoid & which ones are decent options, etc. Basically, a video on what would be a good way to maintain our coating if we're not overly concerned / motivated / etc when it comes to doing it perfectly? Would it be OK to go to a drive through wash & use a shammy, no shammy, ceramic spray, no spray, detailing spray instead, what kind of wheel cleaner or none? You get the drift... Thank you!!!

I think if you can't take care of your car post ceramic coating, don't do it. It's going to be a waste of money. Taking care means giving your car 20 minutes everyday. If you can give 20 minutes everyday, go for ceramic coating. The thing that bothers me is that no one talks about what happens to the cars original paint when the ceramic coating wears off after many years.

They are race cars they get treated pretty roughly sometimes. And get tons of scratches on them during the process of a race.

Do I have to use a si02 based drying aid? I got some meguiars Ultimate Quick Wax id like to burn through before buying si02 stuff. And while I'm asking I got final inspection and would like to burn through that too before buying ceramic only detailer. Thoughts?

Dude, I'm waaaay late to this vid. What year is your MK7? Do you still own it? I have a modded '17 S manual. I respect yours still has the stock Austen wheels and still appears stock. The white looks really nice. In the right hands, that color looks sooo right on that car.

Yes, getting protection options on a new car is the best time to do it. Find a location detailer in your area with a good reputation, there are a lot of great brands on the market. www.carsupplieswarehouse.com/pages/detailwise

Thank you for sharing such a detailed video. All your videos are so educational. I live in New Delhi, India where the air quality is really bad and there’s a lot of dust in the air. As a result, by the end of the day my car does get a fine layer of dust on it. I’m waiting on delivery of my new car on which I will get PPF and ceramic coating. I was wondering if you’d recommend a weekly wash or maybe a waterless rinse every two days? How do I tackle the dust coating that I will get daily? I’ll do a deep wash once a week on sundays.

You can use McKee’s N-914 Rinseless Wash in a sprayer like the ik multipro, only need to use 1/2 oz per 30oz of water. Spray it on, rinse with water, dry, done! The N-914 has great lubricating properties and helps lift dirt off, great for what you’re looking for, and use it before you do a regular wash as well to help lubricate and remove contaminates.

Iron & tar are not always enough… here in belgium the weather is sh*t. A lot of grime will build up after time, and creat a ‘road film’ on top of the coating. What product(s) are you guys using for this ?

I agree that you're not supposed to rinse your car and just let the drops sit there, but for some of us that happens anyway because we live in areas where dew condenses on our car early in the morning.

Very helpful thx . I have a ceramic coat on my car and I wash it with the soap jet spray at the wash , I never touch the car with a sponge or brush but I do wipe down dry with a (washed) soft water absorbent towel . Car is 6 months old and seems to be relatively swirl and scratch free , I’m happy with what I’m doing .

I have an e46 m3 that is washed every week, waxed every month, and covered with an oem car cover every day. Been thinking about a coating since the last guy did a poor job buffing and there is plenty of swirls. Is a car cover okay for a coating? I try and get my car cover washed once every 6 months.

I just bought a 2015 car 3 weeks ago with immaculate yellow paint, and had a ceramic coating and protective plastic wrap. The rear of the car (diffuser) is collecting soot from the exhaust pipes and don’t want to come off. The dealer advised to clay bar the diffuser to remove the soot. I have see online where the clay bar is an abrasive substance and it will damage the ceramic coating. What do you recommend?

Hi jason, a big fan from Malaysia. I have several questions regarding the aftercare: 1. How frequent should a coated be washed? 2. After curing for 24hrs you mentioned that it would be continue to cure for at least 1-2 weeks, is it safe for customers to wash their car within that stage? 3. If customer comes back at me after a month of not washing their car with tar/grimes all over shall we do a maintenance? *The weather here in Malaysia is tropical, its very hot & humid haha we rain most of the times too

Hey Jason, thanks for your lovely video. Q: if my car ceramic coated, can I wash it with shampoo that says ( shampoo and wax? ) and can I apply some certified wax on it? Like the wax that’s available on BMW’s site?

You want a pH neutral soap that also does not contain wax. You would be essentially be covering up the coating with wax

Don’t use anything with wax. I use CarPro Lift in a foam cannon, then CarPro Reset in the hand wash. Every 2 months, after drying, use CarPro Reload spray sealant as a topper for the ceramic coating. Comes out squeaky clean & shiny, keeps your expensive coating in top notch!

Jeez, i wish my epensive dealer coating had come with instructons. It seems they forget to sell me the maintenance kit for it. My first wash was after 3 days! After 11 months, its losing its hydroscopicity, hence trying to find out maintenance other than washing. I won't be replacing it. As I had no idea what soap to use, I have just carried on using Meguires wash and wax stuff that worked pretty well on my 2006 car. 😮

It is the same exact recommended maintenance than a non coated vehicle, y'all just don't know how to wash, so now that you see a video explaining how to properly maintain a vehicle, you're stumped. Washing a coated car is much easier than a non coated vehicle. Wash media has less friction on surface, dirt cleans off easier, car dries easier and looks freshly detailed after just a maintenance wash. Coated cars can stay cleaner for longer compared to one that's not. My clients comment on that all the time.

Hi! I have read many customer disputes that ceramic coatings made their water spots problem WORSE, theorising that the coating chemical compounds make it attract dirt more than a vehicle without coating. They further complain that water spots still occurred despite following all the proper washing & drying practices. What's your take on this?

  • @taylor315

    @taylor315

Definitely use a de-ionizing system to clean your water of minerals. Use the proper soaps and don’t let it dry on the surface!
