Dude, you are the best! I had a black bar on the right side of my screen and I was dreading having to open my PVM. Being able to adjust it in the service menu is amazing and it took a lot of googling to find out you could but I'm glad I did. Thank you so much!

Also I just figured out how to do this on my own PVM, a 2054QM: enter the regular menu and then press enter + degauss at the same time, the settings all have different names from what you've shown here (horizontal spacing is done with "video phase" for example) but the principle is the same. Saving is degauss -> degauss while in the menu

It might be a bit of a stretch to ask but I’ve got the same model pvm and on the left hand side of the screen there is a faint blue vertical line going from the top to the bottom of the screen. I noticed that when I’m on the raster centre adjustment screen the white portion of the screen is biased to the right hand side further than your pvm was. Would you know if this is likely related to my issue and if so do you know how to adjust the raster so as it’s not so far to the right. Thanks for your videos. Nobody else makes crt repair info so easy to find and to understand.

Sorry if you covered this already, but if I calibrate my TV using the 240p test suite on one console, should the picture settings not require adjusting when switching to other consoles? For example, I have my SNES and Dreamcast and my Magnavox CRT. I switch between the two by pulling the S video cables out and using the same input. Since they are both S video and 4:3, should I be able to just calibrate my TV by using the test suite on a Dreamcast disc? I dont want to have to buy a special cartridge for all my consoles

Great guide. I have a question though: when you read about PVM settings online, there's quite a few horror stories about how some settings (v hold in particular, when the caps are already in a bad state) can brick your PVM if you set them wrong. Which of the settings are "safe" and which are the ones you should adjust with care?

Can someone remind me of a PS2 game that shows a grid similar to the one on the test suite so I can boot it to calibrate my TV? I'm also wondering if I could use the PS2 to emulate NES, SNES or Genesis in order to use the 240p test suite since it's not available for the PS2, but I wonder if that would be reliable... There's definitely some image loss on my CRT, which makes me believe the image is stretched horizontally. Anyway, great video! I'm definitely saving for later use.

  • @Ponimaju

Yes, you can set it so that the red dots in the middle touch the border of the screen but the straight edges of the red boxes are in the overscan area/not visible as he has done. You can always adjust it later if say certain UI items are cut off in particular games (sometimes you can take care of that with in-game settings) or for personal preference, but in general you aren’t meant to see anything that would fall in the overscan area, especially on older consoles like NES/Genesis, and therefore you won’t likely miss anything.
