Many thanks! Nice to know I'm not the only one struggling to get a perfect result out of a menu-less CRT. I would love to see a video on convergence strips.

Really appreciate this video. This vid along with an archived manual helped me realign my menuless PVM 9041QM. It was a wee bit tricky as a few of the dials/ adjustment screws were on different boards, but were it not for this video I wouldn't have stood a chance! Thanks again!

Thanks for this video! I just scored a 1943MD for a great price. It turned on right away and is CRAZY bright, but it had some geometry issues. I opened it up, cleaned it out, and adjusted. I have one corner that is so-so, but otherwise it looks fantastic.

Sometimes you gotta accepbt a little bit of bad geometry. I too strugle JUST WITH ONE CORNER (Top Left Corner) It has a little bit of bowing, but thankfully my Sony Trinitron has PAMP, LPIN and UPIN... and what I kind of did was to curve inwards the picture Juuuuuuust a little bit with PAMP, and I used LPIN and UPIN to bring the corners outwards until it matched the center. Not perfect, but definitely better than a picture looking like an Hourglass. Here's the story! gbatemp.net/entry/sony-trinitron-surprises.17072/ Side note: Around the 20:42 mark, you can clearly see how the TV decides to NOT cooperate with your hard work.

Such an arduous process. A man could really drive himself to drinking if he were truly obsessed with making the picture 100% perfect.

The grid is one of the worst things you can do to yourself. NEVER look at the grid if you want to enjoy using your CRT. once you see it it cant be unseen.

It cannot be 100% perfect, unless you have BVM D24/32.

@@possiblyanowl The special convergence grid from 240p Test suite is an absolute killer to mind stability for CRT users. I have never seen a CRT pass that test 100%. Even BVM F1 had some misconvergence at the edges. Eeach time you want to fix a given area, a different area gets worse.

Is this something you'll only find on Professional monitors? I have a consumer Samsung CRT and i'm unable to adjust horizontal geometry in the service menu, the options are there but none of them do anything when I change the values. Someone suggested the TV might not have the circuitry installed to allow these changes, so is there a chance there might be pots on the board that can adjust it?

I just ran the 240p 'Grid' test on my 1989 Sony Trinitron KV-27SXR10, and I think my set's vertical size is off. The red squares are *completely* missing on the bottom of the image, and about 50% cut-off on the top! The red boxes on the sides are also a bit off too, but just slightly. Is there any chance this 80's TV has a built-in service menu, or will I need to open it and adjust internal pots? Looking in with a flashlight, I can see 5 orange pots on the main PCB next to each other. Would love to find the Sony service manual before I start poking around inside. I use this TV (which I've had since my teen years!) for all my 70's/80's/90's retro game consoles and computers! EDIT: Interestingly, on the other hand, the 'Grid 224p' test shows the red squares area (overscan) nearly perfect! So which test should I believe, the 240 or 224? The screen geometry is spot on AS-IS, so I worry about throwing that out of wack by adjusting the vertical size.

Hello, I've recently. bought PVM-9044QM and there is a sticker on saying "Only 16:9". Is it possible to be only 16:9? There is no button to change into 4:3, not Service Menu. There are only potentiometer for adjusting H Size, V Size, etc. Is it possible to have a 4:3 image for my SNES with this one or I should send it back?

I picked up a Sanyo 14" off the side of the road. The grid pattern is completely strait but I have heaps of overscan on the sides. Hope I can adjust it as according to the service manual it only has these pots to adjust as no service menu.

I got a kv36fv310 the right bottom corner is always blown out. got it pretty much cleared with the service menu, but the colors in the very corner colors spilt or get a little brighter but its mostly in the overscan. so its not a big deal.ive had this on a bunch of sonys why does it always seem to be that corner
