Love you're videos very informative. But i know a lot about ph pens and the first thing you should do is buy a quality ph pen . The best pen to get is a blue labs pen. They're very easy to calibrate. They come with a few packs of calibration Solution 2 different kinds 7 and 4 so if you're testing a majority closer to 4 for example use the 4 solution for calibration. One button calibration witch is easy. Clear instructions. Storage solution and stuff to clean it with. I would also suggest buying the cleaning kit and extra calibration solution. I've used many different types of ph pens the past 20 years and those cheap ones dont last and are very inaccurate its worth it to get the blue labs it can save lots of heartaches.👍🏻

@@StillnTheClear Hey Cyrus. I have a question for you, 1 UK gallon = 4.54 litres. the US = 3.79 litres. difference of 0.75 litres when making large batches this works out a big difference. Would you suggest using the US fluid measurement ? or would it not any difference Thanks (South Wales UK)

@@StillnTheClear No worries, what I'm thinking is the quantity in your recipe would match your volume of fluid. I would adding extra water which could have an effect on the taste and abv. When I bought a Chinese still I messaged them regarding the same question and they didn't know there was a difference in fluid measurement, their stills are made for US gallons only. Thanks for getting back.

@@daverees986 I've tried to leave a response several times already. I'm in the UK and always use Imperial measurements. When we publish a recipe on StillnTheClear we always give Imperial and US quantities. They're easy to scale up or down depending on how much fluid you're going to use. I mash either 5 or 10 gallons imperial which is 6 or 12 gallons US. Either way it's 22.5 and 45 litres in metric

Calibrating ph meters sucks. It takes too long for me. Anyway. I've been trying your recipes, and have had pretty good success. I also decided to try using crushed oyster shell. I bought a bag at my feed store, but its mixed with coral calcium. Is that OK to use?
