Hi there!
It’s great to meet you 🥰
My name is Maneetpaul Singh, but my friends call me Maneet (pronounced muh-neet). I'm a bookworm from Connecticut who loves tech. When I bought my first e-reader in 2020, I began reading more than I ever had before. I’ve made it my mission to help people fall in love with reading through Book Tech.
Think of me like the MKBHD of books.
There are three things I want you to know.
(1) If you'd like to read a new nonfiction book with me every month, join my book club with a community of 1,000+ bookworms: go.maneetpaul.com/book-club
(2) If you’re struggling to build a daily reading habit and want to know how I became a bookworm, check out my short book titled Just One More Chapter: geni.us/GQX7rKe
(3) If you just want to chat, email me anytime hello@maneetpaul.com. I personally respond to every email.
Thanks so much for being here.
Happy reading!

Excellent video! I purchased a PocketBook Era because, as silly as it sounds, something about having the amazon logo literally in my bed felt. . . off. I mostly use my library or occasionally the Google book store for titles. Though as an American, PocketBook Era doesn't have library integration (that I've been able to find), they DO have a system that's worked smoothly for me. Basically, you create an account that makes a pocketbook email address. I download the ebook onto my computer, email it to the pocketbook address, and then it's instantly downloaded on my device. You don't actually open the pocketbook email address--it basically just acts as a folder.

Another great Video thank you. I watched your video on Libby and am keen to support local libraries. Unfortunately here in the UK we cannot use our Kindle reader for library books as they are not supported. This has finally convinced me that I should splash out and purchase the Kobo Clara 2E reader this will allow me to break away from the Amazon stranglehold and use Library books. Once again your review of the Clara was also really helpful in making this decision.

Great video, thank you. One of the big advantages of Amazon for someone like me was/ is that Amazon keeps all your titles in one place whereas buying from different sources can get a bit messy for your backups. All you need is a hard drive failure (which is inevitable), or just to save your download in a random place(!) and you've lost your books. Generally I'm not that organised but I learned how to use that well-known "one stop solution to all your e-book needs" and I've got all my e-books in one place and organised too. And super-easy to back my library up to a cloud storage place too.

Thank you for the great video, Maneet! This is a constant the moral question for me. On one hand, I love the convenience of my Kindle books (and their highlighting) and on the other, I don't want Amazon to get any stronger than it already is.

In my country (Poland) no one buys books in Amazon because there's no books in Polish there (I mean no ebooks). And we have a lot of smaller and bigger ebook stores. However, authors and publishers still complaint saying that because of so many ebook stores they lowering the price.

I could of course be wrong, but my understanding is that the library has to pay Amazon for the books that are borrowed and that the price they pay is not low. Just another reason to hate the big A.

  • @Grunfeld

Hi, if you purchase and download the book in an EPUB file format (and you will almost certainly have that option) then *any* eReader will work well. You can even email the file to your Amazon email and add it to your Kindle that way too. I have a regular Kindle, a de-registered Kindle, and a Kobo Clara 2e -- they can all read EPUB with no issues. EDIT -- Just to add that in order to read an EPUB on your regular Kindle you *need to* email it to your Amazon account first. It's simple, and Amazon tell you how to do it. For the other devices you can just copy the file over.

Amazon is devious enough to often prevent authors from selling their book anywhere else if they want to be on the Amazon store. Especially bad for small authors who often don't have a choice.

It does not take a genius to realise that if you borrow library books through libby (on kindle), you are STILL supporting Amazon. Maybe even more than if you had just directly bought the book from them [Amazon]. Although this last bit is speculation on my part

@@Maneetpaul Pirating is not fair and also everything in life. A book can be 0.01 of your salary but 10% for another person both of them work hard, is this fair? There are pirating in Streaming video on demand but it is still very profitable for the streaming companies. It would be great if you will do a video on this subject if you could wear the shoes of a poor individual who wants to read but does not have the money to buy books I believe that all information should be available for free and the industry needs to think of other ways to make money. do you pay for scrolling on Facebook? do you have to pay to watch a youtube video? or to get information on Wikipedia? not with money.
