Ahoy! Awesome that you're coming to Japan! I recommend buying a car if you travel a lot and live or travel outside the big cities. It's very hard and expensive to get parking in, for example, Tokyo or Osaka, or any other big cities. 🏙 In general, public transportation is amazing in Japan. In Okinawa, you do need a car because there is very limited public transportation. 🚄 Generally, it's easy to sell your used car, and you can make much more money if you sell it privately. If you're in a rush, you can also sell it on a platform like this: kaitori.carsensor.net/ (but be aware the cars sell very cheap there). Ahoy! Thanks for your comment. As of now, I do not know anything about exporting cars and really don't want to give you false information. You can only claim a tax refund if you have an establish company in Japan .hope this helps

Does an International Driver's License work the same?

Ahoy! Yeah, an International Driving Permit (IDP) works the same, but keep in mind the expiration date and also that it's issued under the right Geneva Convention from 1949. I once had a permit, but it wasn't issued under the same Convention, so I couldn't join the Mario Go-Kart experience in Tokyo. Haha 😆 Cheers.
