Okay, so you love sugar coating a turd. 😂
Love the energy Mike. I like how you expressed your frustrations and did not try to sugarcoat the inefficiencies.
Very helpful information about buying a car in Japan!
Very informative video from your new subs. As a foreigner who is planning to lived for long time in Japan, this is interesting since I also have plan to buy used car in here.. 👍
Very well explained!
Oh my god. You could probably get a TV show out of different kinds of bureaucratic adventures in Japan! You're really good. Loved the positive ending too 😁
Hello! Just found your channel. We are moving to Japan next month (Yokosuka). Thank you for all the great information!
Hi Mike! Thanks for another amazing and informative video! It was awesome to see your experience with the hanko develop as your day went on. Thanks for including it in this video! 🚙🚗

Mike ,Gulliver car dealership are exporting car worldwide or just for Japanese market only?
Oh man.. I had the same disappointment as you back then. Especially the hanko and parking lot. Anyway, nice content...
Was a wonderful episode! It spurred me to look for my Hanko, which is stored away for the next time I buy a car in Japan. Ha! P.S.: We want more Moco Loco reviews.

I was trying to do topics with a bit more depth, but if that is what Stan-san wants, I will definitely try to do one when an interesting signature sandwich from Makudonarudo comes out! :)
Hello, very informative vlog! Do the prices reflected on Gulliver's site the final price of the cars?
Thks - great 👍!
The complication makes sense. This extra steps and costs created the order and clear responsibility.
absolutamente un video genial!!!
Just found your channel. Very useful and informative. I did think a damaged hanko would be impossible to replace. Better to have one that can be reproduced should that ever be necessary. Unless they would allow you to register a different hanko but that seems unlikely given all the roadblocks you outlined.
Thanks for sharing this video. I have a plan to visit Japan end of this year and I would like to visit to the cities where they sell used cars and car spare parts to export to Africa. Do you have any recommendations on those cities to visit?
I found this Very Interesting and some of it makes no sense, but hey many places are like that, some countries make things harder than they should be to put money in peoples pockets.
Gulliver rules!!!👍👍👍

Good evening, great video, do you have connections to shop cars to US?
Im learning Japanese to come to Japan❤
Hey Mike. would they do wheel conversion for Toyota LC80 in Japan before it can be shipped to countries that required left hand drive?
this was a cool video. The trials and tribulations to buy a car is no joke, here in america you know we can throw a for sale sign in the window and thats about it. Its a stark contrast thats government run amok with so much bureaucracy.

Yes, that is "sasuga, America!" Quick, practical and done. :)
Lots of great info, and I've been dealing with Gulliver's the past few days on trying to get a used Mazda CX-5. However... they are asking me about a Japanese guarantor since I don't yet have permanent residency. I own my own house outright and that's still not enough for them. However, I don't have any Japanese friends close enough to ask to be my guarantor. My company will lease a car to me, but there are several terrible reasons I don't want to do that: 1) it's a lease, not a purchase, 2) it's 35,000/month -- much too expensive for what I'd get, 3) it's a small, economical type vehicle -- I don't get to choose what I get -- but I'm over 186cm tall. Right now, I'm at a loss as to what to do. It's pretty lame that I can't even get a small auto loan for a secondhand car.
Great video! I'm getting scared with this bureaucratic face of Japan as well
How is the process of registering a car in Japan. If the car has shaken do you still need to register at transportation office or you do it when shaken expires. I'm confused on the process
please like how much 2002 dhaitsu 7seater cost with alot of mileages
In the States, I think that the average buyer (not me) trades-in their car on a whim, sort of the classic "emotional" sale. Dealers here have to make sure a prospect never leaves the lot before their buzz dissipates. Therefore they can do everything, including title and insurance, even on a weekend, on the spot so you get that car "today". Hence this emotional play is what gives used-car salesmen their bad name. In Japan, the bureaucracy involved could never be driven by an emotional high, so they use that nasty and expensive bi-annual exam to motivate people to upgrade.

Very interesting! I never thought about the car "today" concept, but makes perfect sense. Thank you for sharing! Do used car dealerships ever offer some kind of warranty on their cars?
short answer. Try not to buy a car in Japan because the total cost of ownership is astronomical. The rules encourage people to abandon usable cars. As I travel around I see multiple abandoned vehicles daily.

why not finger print (thumb print) ?
With houses and with cars, the rules and valuation structures encourage people to abandon usable cars and buildings.

I HAVE A QUICK QUESTION. IF YOUARE TRYING TO PURCHASE YOUR 3RD NEW USED CAR...WOULDN'T YOU HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR PROCESS WITH THE HANKO AND CAR PARK REGISTRATION ALREADY? YOU ALSO STATED THIS WAS YOUR 3RD TIME BUYING A CAR FROM THIS DEALERSHIP. SO WHAT WAS THE PROCESS THE FIRST 2 TIMES YOU BOUGHT A VEHICLE?

Can you buy a car in Japan to take it to your own country? What are the requirements?
❤❤
Living in Japan for over 4 years now, I also have realised that life in Japan is full of bizarre little rip offs that would be impossible in Germany. The fraudulent Japanese way of product packaging alone would have landed people in jail plus business closure if practised in Europe.
Wow. Can you source me a car from japan here to usa. I am looking for a Nissan 240SX. I am in Los Angeles California

Do you know how to google, lazy boye? You can use goonet as a reference but need at least an export company Japan to do the process of bidding/buying and shipping, AFAIK.
Long time no see! I sent it for confirmation, but I can see your home address many times in the video, is that okay? I was worried, so I sent you a message.

Thank you for letting me know, Yukari. I hope you are doing well.
Or try to take your business somewhere else that does not require an insecure hanko. Make a big deal about the absurdity of the rules before you tell them that you will try to find another competitor. Maybe you don't find another dealer without a hanko and you have to use it; but we all need to push back a little to get the businesses to talk about it. They will not change until it hurts business enough
