I will try that the next time I ride...I will call it the Dominican Bunny hop and it envolves the biker, the bike, and the nearest hospital in your area

Hell yea! I doubt anyone cares, but I've been riding BMX for 15 years and THIS is definitely how you bunnyhop. I've seen some other 'how to' videos for bunnyhopping that are MTB specific and the technique and execution are... embarrassing. This guy bunnyhops on to a picnic table with style and grace, which is how a bunnyhop should look. Cheers and kudos!

Are you sure? I think that it is explicitly stated that both are used for different things and, in fact, I think cornering is even more important than jumping over obstacles. You can go around an obstacle but when you need to make a sharp turn then you do not have that many options, but the English bunny hop seems to work seamlessly(no pun intended). That being said, the American version indeed does look so much more beautiful and it's definitely much cooler at first glance.

Very clear vid. Thanks. I've been able to wheelie (which seems to be called a 'manual' these days?) since I was a kid and generally have pretty good XC bike skills, but I've never got the hang of the American bunny hop, only English ones. And this is a problem on some trails. I never realised I was supposed to be 'scooping'. Hopefully that'll do the trick - I'll give it a go... One can still learn stuff in middle-age :-)

After watching this like ... 10 times and practicing for 2 months. Now I can do it, it’s not SUPER hard but it takes practice. I recommend trying to break it down in two parts, front lift and rear lift. After you get those movements down, do em together. Oh and doing it on a hardtail helps a lot!

Yeah I agree. I do think it has it's place in urban MTB, with a hardtail. I use it a lot for mounting curbs, and getting over other small obstacles. Also it's just plain fun as heck. Burst at the crest of a sharp hill, and bunnyhop to catch some easy air. For clearing flights of steps it is also quite nice. :-D

Would it help or hurt to lock the front shocks? I ride mostly on suburban streets. Blew out my back tire today on a curb. Before I just yanked the front up, do a little hop to take some weight off the back but basically let the back smack up onto the curb. Found out my bike doesn't like that. Only been riding currently the last 6 months. Had a cruiser in a city in China for a year, 8 years ago just to get places and explore. Rode around town on a similar beach cruiser as a kid (mom wouldn't get me a BMX). Now I've got a Giant Roam hybrid. Maybe I should just wait for the handicap ramp 8^P

would this be achievable on a rigid frame Fuji mountain bike from the 90s? its in pretty good condition but I don't know if it will be bad for the frame

Hey how do I shift my weight from leaning back to get the front wheel up because when I pop the front wheel I feel like I don't have enough time to throw my weight forwards to get the back wheel off the ground

How much of the pressure should be felt on the arms? I feel the pressure on my forearm near the elbow and shoulders more than my feet. Am I doing it right then?
