I have really grown to like cold plunges, but in the summer even the water in my shower isn't really cold enough... so I built my own cold tub... that's SAFE. Check it out and build one for yourself!

Unlike others at least you mentioned the order that everything is connected 👍🏽 The bottom of the tub water exits, hits; - the pump 1st - then hits the filter 2nd - then the chiller 3rd No one else talks about this, so thank you.

My man!!!! Thank you for the video and taking a hit for us and sharing your lessons learned regarding pump and chiller capacities; you saved me a ton of time and frustration. For your viewing audience, I am 6’3, 250 and found a similar RM 150 gallon tub. I went with a 2900gpm pump and the 1hp chiller. Will place in the garage due to the Phx,AZ heat. I will probably use bigger hoses due to the strength of the pump and chill output. Doing my setup like yours this weekend….I’ll look forward to sharing my own vid and giving you an update on my progress. Thanks again for taking the time to shoot and share this with us! CHEERS!

@@romand123 no worries at all. Sorry for my delay. After making many changes and seeing lots and lots of different builds... you would be fine with the smaller unit, just upgrade to a bigger tube like 1inch... also I would build a box around your unit and insulate it for the summer time and you will have NO issues keeping it cold.

You mentioned fighting the outside temps, if you were to move the tub outside would the chiller work efficiently or would you overwork the unit?
@Michaelblife
2 жыл бұрын
Hey Tom, great question. After much more experience and having several others build them outside it works just fine. One recommendation for outdoors is to insulate the outside of the tub, this helps sooo much with keeping it cold and running the chiller less.

I usually will run it for 2-3hrs before my plunges in the 2hr boost. Otherwise I haven’t looked much into it myself
@haltorne6647
Жыл бұрын
From the chillers I’ve personally looked into the boost just pulls a higher power draw for faster cooling. Your electrical bill will go up if you leave it on 24/7. If you run the chiller over night then you shouldn’t need the boost unless the temperature difference between desired water and ambient is high. (MechE here, but openly haven’t fully looked into it all so could still be wrong!)

Hi. Curious as to what made you choose this route rather than going the chest freezer DYI method. Thank you in advance for your input.
@Michaelblife
2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, thanks for asking. A couple reasons: 1. the risk of potential shock with a deep freezer. 2. I can control the temperature with this.. 39-75 degrees, and it works really well - takes about 2 hours to cool it from 70 to 50. 3. Filtration set up is much better with this... changing water is minimal and it’s clean, sanitized, and filtered. These are some of the major reasons. Hope it helps. 😁

Any updates on this please? how did the chiller work out so far?
@Michaelblife
3 жыл бұрын
Hey Evolve. Absolutely!! It works great!!! Only change I’ve had to make is changing to a better filter... only because the original filter takes to long and isn’t as good with high flow rates. So what I did to is once the water is initially filtered and I have the sanitizer in it to keep it clean ... I hooked the pump straight to the chiller... freezing cold water in a matter of 2 hours... haven’t gone below 50 degrees yet... but the chiller will cool it to 39. 🥶... I would recommend just getting a small pool filter and pump combo... they are the same price of not cheaper than buying the 2 separate pieces that I got. Let me know if I can help. 😁💪
