I'm digging the ingenuity guys, very cool! However, your welding can only be described as, well, scary and that is a dramatic understatement. For starters, that "popping" noise you're hearing from the MIG is too much wire and not enough heat and as a result you're getting little if any penetration. Turn your wire speed down and your voltage up until it sounds like a smooth burn. Put the TIG away. Period. I just don't want to see all your hard work come apart at 60 MPH. One more thing. Put on some gloves before you burn the crap out of yourself or worse! Good luck!

When you use the TIG welder, point the tungsten directly at the weld, you send the heat all over the place if you have a giant raking angle like that.. and use filler wire.. The idea is to get into a rhythm after you form the puddle, you should be 1handing that torch. as for MIG turn your wire speed up, and if you have a small/underpowered machine take some scraps and practice a couple butt welds and inside corners/T-joints at max voltage (how I run my shitty weld-pak 100), make sure to gap your parts so you can see how much you can get it to penetrate into the gap, making a much stronger weld.

Practice makes perfect. Wire feed speed sounds a little low. Maybe bump up the gas a bit as well. It's all in the preparation as well. Make sure to grind all the surfaces that you're welding to bare metal.

When you start the weld, sit in one spot long enough to get a melted pool going then slowly pull the edges of the pool down the weld seam in a C shape. When you go too fast your wire hits the "cold" metal outside the pool and it kicks you back.

Totally agree with you critic about this gentleman’s welding process. As a qualified welder / Fabricator, we call it a Boiler Maker in Australia I often laugh when people ask what my job consists off, I say welding and fabrication they say oh yeh I’ve got a mig welder and I can weld too might keep it in mind if I’m looking for work. Welding to code is a in-depth process and yes most any one can run a weld via a mig welder in a short time and for many home jobs it’s some what ok. I always encourage people who do a bit of welding at home to look online and learn more about what is actually going on and what you are trying to achieve deeper than joining two pieces of steel together. The more you learn and understand what’s going on it’s a fascinating process. Really impressed with ingenuity.

This will be slow , and quick wont even be in its vocabulary ! Like I said , Better as a work machine that an off road buggy . Bug great job on the build.

Nah, even though the welds are ugly, and SOUND ugly on the video, that doesn't mean that they won't carry the stresses they're exposed to. He's over-built the swingarms, and used very thick mild steel. Even though the steel is relatively soft, he used quite a heavy gauge, so it'll be fine. This vehicle will be lightweight and won't be carrying a lot of weight, so it will most likely be fine. I'm not saying that these are the prettiest welds in the history of the universe, but are the strong enough to do that particular job? Most likely!

@@AddictedtoProjects I give the dude props for sandal welding, but he's got 1/8 or 3/16 on some plates that should be at least 1/4, and 4130 for an off road vehicle. If it's just for cruising it'll be ok but a good hard bump will bend that. The channel is decently hd but that upright mount it's all welded to is not. The welding was plenty hot but I saw a lot of mild steel tigging with no filler, that won't last off road either
