when you are less worried about making mistakes... you make less mistakes... when you are less worried about missing shots... you make more shots... when you are less worried about what others think of you... you gain more self-esteem.. but everything has to be based on confidence, instead of arrogance... the line can be thin for some of us

Hey coach, I’m not sure if your going to respond since I’m 2 days late, but I feel one of my main problems is I can’t really take care of the ball. I want my team to trust me with the rock in my hands, but the thing is I don’t even have a bad handle, but there’s a huge difference between a good ball handler, and someone who just knows how to dribble. If you can make a film study or a workout that I can try that helps in that area that will help a lot!

Will definitely make a video going into this more. Check out the ball handling playlist on my channel for now, definitely some stuff that’ll help!

Great video! My son U12, is really good at basics/shots and ball handling but he doesn't drive to the basket a lot. How can he change that?

I'd say challenge him to try it more. Help him understand that by trying to do something new/uncomfortable/unfamiliar he is probably going to fail at it a lot at first. That's a very important part of the learning process so help him to understand that the results don't matter right now. Eventually as he does it more he'll figure out what works and he'll become better at it, but only if he's willing to take the risk of trying. Maybe give him a challenge like "drive to the basket 3 times in your game". And if he does that, even if it's a turnover or a miss, celebrate it until it becomes easy for him.

@@VisionDrivenBasketball thanks a lot. I will do that starting from his next game! The other thing is selfish teammates never give passes! The time of play is 3 four minutes periods for each kid so it is really difficult to perform!

I would like to hear your opinion on this. I think reverse layups are pointless because they are difficult and you could just go for a layup. When you are that close to the hoop you could just throw the basketball forwards instead of backwards. I think it is just a move to use to show off. I would like to hear you opinion on this.

If it’s a wide open layup with no defense, sure it doesn’t make sense to do a reverse. But there’s plenty of situations where a reverse makes sense because of a defender contesting. Reverse layups can be extremely useful in certain situations.

Coach why are there certain times where your shot and especially handles just feel off? Even with training and work there’s just this weird feeling that when I handle the ball it feels weird and i always loose it

Because you’re a human and not a robot. Progress isn’t linear, you’re not going to feel 100% everyday. You’ve just gotta keep working so that the bad days aren’t as bad.
