HOW TO BUILD an ANT FARM: Make a DIY Plaster Ant Nest (Formicarium)

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

A comprehensive, In-Depth Guide on How to make a Plaster Formicarium (Ant Farm). In this Build Video of our ant keeping Series, we show you how to design and create an Ant Nest using Plaster Casting Powder. The end result of this DIY Project offers the Ants a Nesting Medium, which can be paired with an Outworld (foraging area) or other Nests to house a Pet Ant Colony.
As an ant keeper it is your duty to provide your Pet Ants with everything they need in order to thrive in your care!
One of our favourite Pet Ant Colonies shall later be introduced to this Formicarium.
The Tools and Materials used are mostly simple - So you can give it a try yourself too. We hope you follow our Footsteps!

    AntsVienna nice video 👍🏻 I just had my first workers for my Lasius colony but they are a brownish. The queen looks like Flavus with a yellow underside and legs. Did your Lasius Flavus workers look darkish when they hatched and then turn orange or do I have a different species? Thanks for the help!

Why haven't you made them deeper? Is that for a certain reason or just because you were in this mood? Wouldn't the ants like it a bit deeper so that they can have more space for the eggs and could spend more time in it?

    For the blue one, the chamber is painted so will it affect the water to seep through for the ants? I think the unpainted version is cleaner & neater than both painted version.

  • @AntsVienna

  • @commander1007

    I prefer the green one as the other one looks like it has been painted in the chambers which will make it harder for the ants to get the moisture they need because when acrylic paint dries it forms a plastic layer

  • @AntsVienna

    @AntsVienna

    4 жыл бұрын

    That is correct. But here it comes - the inside of the chambers on the blue one has NOT been painted. I used a special procedure to give the wet plaster mixture color, without it being able to form this plastic layer. This way ants can be hydrated/drink normally and you get an awesome color combination ;)

    Hello there. Yes, plaster does mold easier than other materials, BUT if you water the nest with moderation (not too much) then you should face no problems. If you want to be on the safe side, just connect the nest to an outworld and provide your ants with water via a liquid feeder there. kzread.info/dash/bejne/Zqmh2dSHcs3Ofc4.html
