    Interesting build, thanks for sharing. May I suggest a few details, that could improve performance? First the alluring box fuselage. The vertical side of the long nose will act as a vertical stabilizer in the wrong end of the plane and counteract the v-tail. Think shooting an arrow backwards (feathers first). A rounded shape would be better, but keeping the vertical side as low as possible also helps. Secondly, while providing some (servo) redundancy, the V-tail induces adverse yaw. An inverted V-tail helps providing positive yaw, but can be difficult to implement in the tail pushed design - it sits more better on a twin tail boom configuration. So a conventional tail may be better. Finally the availabilty of affordable laser cutters makes building your own wing profiles from NACA proven airfoils very easy, so you don't have to compromise here. Still I like you project a lot!

    Thanks for these ideas for improvements! - The Adverse Yaw effect had no significant or noticeable effect ever in my V-Tail designs and worked flawless. The square tube design is just the easiest method of building a fuselage for FPV platforms (not the most aerodynamic/optimal shape, but it works well enough for a +10km and back) The Inverted-V design came to me last couple of days coincidentally, to have an FPV design look like an MQ-1 Predator - But that is indeed complicated since it’ll need the retractable landing gear of same mechanics. But it might happen because parachutes an consideration too.

    That's a really nice build, I feel like you don't often see good looking and good flying planes that are this easy to put together. As a fun side note, if your aircraft geometry will let you, inverting the V-tail gets you even better performance. When you turn using a V-tail it induces a small amount of roll opposite of how you're rolling for a turn, the A-tail flips that around into roll that goes with the turn.

    @@AeroStuffFPV yeah that ads a lot of weight and drag. you can do extra janky stuff like making the A attach to a horizontal stabilizer. you also often see the A tail on a twin boom which would work on a pusher set up, but that would require a huge redesign. I never even thought to put FPV gear in it, even though I'm currently doing some fixed-wing FPV flying and just got an airplane ready to fly with an F722-WING controller running INAV 6.0. Just waiting on a new radio, and hopefully INAV 6.0 will be official just in time for the maiden flight. But now I'm fired up to finish building my Experimental Airlines design!

    So. Excellent work! You are the subject matter expert on this aircraft. So I defer to your great experience. Your winglets are over sized, you are correct that they cancel vortices, but they do not need to be 3-4 inches on each side of the wing, .5" at best. The faster an aircraft goes the larger those winglets need to be to maintain stability during maneuver. yours are very large for what little speed you are maintaining. What you have created is an aircraft that in a very tight bank (75 degrees) allows you to turn in place and observe a point on the ground without losing altitude, and minimal throttle correction to maintain that altitude. Forestry Cessna 152's, have very large rolled down wing tips so they san "Sit and spin" over a potential target and observe it. You seem to be going for loiter and distance, I would just add bent winglets (-6 degrees or more with experimentation) depending on how much loiter in the turn you want. my 2 cents. everything looks great.

    @@AeroStuffFPV just a thought. A lot of NACA studies around the ww2 era looked into this a bunch. the british mosquito was very fast for its time, for example, because the wood construction meant it had a smoother skin than riveted planes. even metal planes went from protruding rivets to flush rivets. have you ever flush riveted something? it basically doubles the amount of work it takes to assemble it. The other big areas of study for NACA drag were air scoops (look up NACA scoop) and how to cowl rotary engines and water radiators for min drag.

    What modifications would need to be made if you where to increase the main body weight by a lot (say batteries) and how can you increase accuracy at high speeds + low altitude Thanks a lot!

  • @AeroStuffFPV

    @AeroStuffFPV

    Жыл бұрын

    I know that my planes of these sizes can have up to 2.5kg AUW before it’s efficiency rapidly drops (4S LiPo’s/LiIons) and it’s current weight is 1550gr incl. HD camera of 60grams. so no modifications needed until 2.5kg or so. If I’m exceeding that weight, I’d go for a thicker/longer wingspar and configure the flaperon mix to increase lift upon launch & landing. - The accuracy could be done by doing an “auto-tune” which is a feature with iNAV-FlightControllers -> It’s to get the PID/PIFF values by just flying the aircraft for approx 5-8min and get the flight controller to measure the values.
