How to Build a Snow Cave in Three Minutes

Комедия

This is how I keep busy during the winter in North Idaho. :D Many hours of footage from at least five different days of work are condensed into this short video, to show you what it is like to build a snow cave, without forcing you to watch an extremely boring, 10-hour video. Enjoy, and thanks for watching! :D

For everyone that keeps saying that he didn't do this in three minutes... well duh thats impossible he means three minutes as of how long the video is and he says in the description "Many hours of footage from at least five different days of work are condensed into this short video, to show you what it is like to build a snow cave, without forcing you to watch an extremely boring, 10-hour video." lol

A snow cave is never a survival technique. It takes one person over 7 hours to build a safe snow cave. A snow trench can be constructed in one hour, hence it is a survival technique.

We're getting a 2-3 day blizzard in the Northeast (1/26/15), 2 inches of snow fall per hour, wind gust 50-60 mph and ending Wednesday night. Then we getting another big snow storm over the weekend on Saturday. I'm determined to build a snow cave and hope my lazy nephews help out a little :-)

Ethan, what an entertaining video. Thank you for sharing your hard work (and some great music) with the world. I've just completed an exhaustive search of the 2015 IBC (international building codes). Just so that you know, there are no maximum or minimum dimensions listed for snow caves. You are completely justified.

In areas of the country where you are able to get 15 inches or more in less than 24 hours, these things also work well on fire hydrants and storm drains. We just got blasted by a major snowstorm here in the northeast USA on January 23rd-24th 2016. I pulled out the 2 that I bought a few months ago and one of my neighbors and I walked around our hometown for a number of hours cleaning out storm drains and fire hydrants. Between the 2 of us we cleared out more than 25 fire hydrants and more than 60 storm drains in less than 8 hours. Fortunately we haven't had any structure fires in town yet but if we do most of the town is ready to not only reach the water underground but also wash it away underground.

Reminds me of three fellow students back in 1967. They planned to do some winter climbing at Memututind, Norway in Easter. They arrived base camp and dug in. Hours later bad weather, snow and storm arrived at base camp (17 people died in Norwegian mountains that Easter). Rest of the week they dug out a full flat: dining room, sleeping, kitchen, lavatory, storage, even a chapel, … but no climbing.

I just came back from camp and read your reply. We built a snow cave for 6 people and the wall was about a meter. unfortunately it was very windy up in top of New Zealand mountain and at 1:30am the snowcave collapsed on us while we were sleeping. luck that i was able to dig back out and got others out too. I think we didnt really compact the top while we were building. anyway thanks for the reply.
