How to Build a Rustic Pallet Wood Accent Wall

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I build Pallet Wood accent wall. There are several tips I share and hopefully, if you are looking to build something like this, there are enough tips to help you out as well! Here is a list of the big ones I can think of:
1. Find Pallet wood
2. Paint the wall black! You could do an accent color but the beauty of a pallet wall in particular is the fact that it is already imperfect. Once you put the pallet boards on the wall, there is a good chance you will see gaps and holes in the wood. With a dark wall it will look more like a shadow, so definitely think about that before you put the wood on the wall!
3. Use a reciprocating saw to cut each board off the pallet - it will save so much time!
4. If you have pieces that are the same size, it will look much better, but if you don't, use a skill saw or table saw to cut pieces to similar width per row…
5. Find a level starting point - mine will be the center of the wall.
6. If you are not using glue, make sure to nail the boards into a stud in the wall.
7. Once you get the first row of boards on the wall, vary the thickness of each row (even if you go back and forth between 2-3 inches, so it is consistent) and vary the placement of the joint. - this isn't flooring, so no strength is needed where the wood meets up, but strictly looking at the visual esthetic, it will be much more pleasing because I highly doubt you will be able to find traditional pallet wood and every board be identical.
8. You could stain/paint each board a different color.
9. If you wanted to go the extra mile, you could trim the outside of the wall to hind any imperfections, but that's about it!
10. Here is the beautiful thing about this type of accent wall - if you don't like it or you are not happy with a particular board, TAKE IT OFF AND REPLACE IT! It's that simple ☺️ Have fun with it and get creative!

Nice tips. Another tip that I do, is I separated the boards in different piles based on the shades of color. That way I don’t get too many (of the same color) boards all in one area! Great job this looks 10x better than the regular white wall👍🏼👍🏼

Your wall turned out great! What colors of stain did you use?

Thank you! I didn’t do anything to it! Left it completely raw. Some of the wood probably could use a sanding but it’s in my garage so I’m not worried about it. They sat in there for almost a year drying out.

What gauge nails did you use?

Hello, I used 18 gauge nails. Works great! If you shoot them into the studs, you’d need a hammer or flat head to pull them back off the wall.

Did you stain or sand it at all?

Nope! Left it all completely natural. I wanted a very rough, unfinished look. You could totally go in the opposite direction and do both, as well as cut each board to the same/similar size, then it would look much more “finished”.

@UseWhatchaGot thank you. Yea I want to go with the rough look, the issue I'm running into I'd 90% of the boards I am using are from the same pallets and color is identical. I'll probably go through and stain some 2 different shades so I have more variation. Looks great!
