How to Build a Modern Sliding Door with Frosted Glass Panels

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I tackled one of my biggest pet peeves in our new home in this video--the laundry room door.
Our existing pivot door opened in both directions, but neither one of them were convenient. And while it wasn't THAT big of a deal, it was a source of daily irritation, so I finally had enough and decided to replace this poorly designed laundry room entrance with a more practical (and pretty) solution--a MODERN DIY SLIDING DOOR!
Join me as I build and install this modern sliding door with frosted glass panels in this video and head over to grab the plans and more details on the project here:

Being a woodworker for nearly 50 years, I think you're an inspiration to a younger generation. I appreciate your honesty, leaving your 'mistakes' in the video. Part of the joy of our craft is learning while we build. I remember my early years when all I owned were hand tools. Nice job little Lady!

As usual, I love the black and natural wood tone. I vote leave it as is. A similar project is on my to do list for our laundry room. Very clean and functional! I would give it more likes if I could.

When I didn't see a video last week I knew you were up to something special. You didn't disappoint! The door looks great and you've left us with great expectations of future projects to come. Its warmed up here enough that I've been able to channel some of that energy and motivation you've imparted to my own little projects out in the garage. Thanks for Sharing!

This door is fantastic. It completely changes the look of that area of your home and I'm sure that the practicality of a sliding vs a swinging door is going to be a constant plus for you as you come and go through the front door and the laundry room door. You did an excellent job on this build. Thanks for sharing this video with us.

Nooooo don't paint it... It looks amazing!! I love the look & contrast between the lumbers natural tone with the hint of ebony stain 😍♥️. Also, if you have no frosted spray, you could always sand both front and back of the plexiglass. It worked great for when I tried this method. I believe I used 180grit. I wouldn't use a smaller grit. That square dowel "trick" instead of routing the rabbet is great 👌🏻. Love your videos. Keep them coming

Love how the door turned out! Looks like you have a lot of wall space above your washer/dryer where you could put cabinets if you wanted to. Also, if your washer and dryer are both front loaders you could build a nice shelf just above both for a great place to fold clothes.

Thank you! Yes our laundry room is a decent size space. There is actually a countertop on the other side of the room (the side you can’t see from the angle in the video) and some cabinets and shelves above it. I’ll eventually be tearing it all out and building my own…but I’ve got a few other projects a little higher on the list to tackle first. But I’ll definitely be coming back to this space at some point 🙌

Shara, wow, that’s a really nice sliding door! I like the natural color with your wall color, but black would look great too! We’ve built several of these for our loft area and never tried the glass inserts. That’s a great idea. We just go pick up our pulleys and steel stock and build our own hardware though. Another great project! Have a great weekend!

Thanks so much for watching! I’ve made my own hardware several times, but I got lazy (and tired of drilling holes in metal 😂) so I bought my last two tracks. But making your own definitely saves a few bucks!

@@WoodshopDiaries …. I really enjoy your great videos! Each project is well designed and with step by instructions! This sliding door is the nicest I’ve seen. It’s ok 👌🏻 to buy the hardware, plus it’s much faster! :) Lol…. Thanks again.

Really nice. The black trim adds a great touch. If you decide to paint it, white may look the best. I used to hate doors also. I take a pill for that now.

Thanks so much! I think white would blend into the white walls too much…I want it to stand out. I kind of hated the plain white door in here before…it felt so cold 😅 but we will see. I have a lot more stuff to add in here so I’ll re evaluate when it’s finished…who knows when that’ll be 😂
