How To Build A Daggerheart Monster! Does Homebrewing In Critical Role's New TTRPG Work?!

Ойын-сауық

The Character Sheet is back with more Fantasy and TTRPG news, and today we are diving into Critical Role's latest playtest for their Daggerheart TTRPG to check out their rules for creating your own monsters (AKA Adversaries), and seeing if those rules atcually WORK. With relatively few monsters to chose from in the Daggerheart Open Beta, does Critical Role give you enough guidelines to succesfully create a worthy adversary...or is Daggerheart skimping on the details and leaving too much up to the GM's imagination?
We'll walk you through how we created our own monster for our home Daggerheart campaign to let you see first hand just how well Critical Role and Darrington Press outline the process in the newest Daggerheart Open Beta playtest!

Do you feel confident homebrewing your own monsters or NPC's in Daggerheart? Do you think Critical Role has nailed their Homebrew rules, or is there something you would tweak? Let us know!

Ive also delved into Homebrewing some low-level monsters for DH. I will be trying the creatures I've made out probably next week. Ive made a few variants of shadow creatures inspired by the Heartless from Kingdom Hearts as my campaign uses a meta story about there being 3 primary spirits. The one that usually keeps order has been attacked and severely weakened, leaving the spirits of hope and fear to be at odds. Wanted the concepts of hope and fear to be incorporated into the world itself

There isn't 30 monsters per tier. Tiers 2 and 3 are not as well supported. I tried to run a Tier 2 one-shot and struggled with lack of choice.

Yeah, we were just giving you kind of a blanket overview, but you are correct that the higher you go in tier the less options you have!

@TheCharacterSheet I also ran a solo monster and the wizard locked it down with a Restraining spell which made it a cake walk and I felt too guilty to spend fear to break free and undo their efforts. Still a really interesting system I want to see develop.

I feel like critical role is getting a lot of free advertising through this channel. It’s a shame that so many smaller games are not getting this coverage. But you gotta get the clicks!
