How to build a bed with drawers for almost FREE...Ikea Brimnes hack.

#IKEAhack #storagebed #drawerbed
Check out how I built this storage bed for my daughters room out of two unused dressers I had. One dresser was from my son's room which he didn't take when he moved to our guest bedroom and the other dresser I picked up at Habitat for Humanity for $30 intending to resell it.
The only expense to this project was a sheet of plywood. Everything else I had. My daughter loves the result! She likes her stuff organized and all the storage allows her to stay that way.

first of all anyone that thinks in this day and age with the prices of everything down to eggs being so expensive no one should think this is silly. IT LOOKS AMAZING AND YOU DID A GREAT JOB I AM thinking about doing this for my husband's and I's bed with thicker plywood on top and some additional things but I absolutely love this and thank you for sharing.🥰

Brilliant & Perfect! Great re-use of something that would have ended up in a landfill. I would respectfully add one more detail....if the mattress is one of those foam type mattresses, some holes drilled down the center that is empty underneath would help with air circulation. I’ve seen what happens under those mattresses when there is no air circulation, don’t ask me how I know that! If it’s a regular mattress it wouldn’t need it. Love it, turned out fabulous!!!

thank you so much! yes, I know what you mean with the foam. same thing happens with chairs that don't have holes for air flow. ;)
Love your channel and all your ideas. Don’t be discouraged or bothered by insignificant comments. I guess that’s why I could never have a YT channel it takes a lot to put yourself out there on the internet where everyone can see you and your ideas you have so much to offer. Iam glad you share your wealth of knowledge. Whatever is in their heart comes out through their comments and sadly attention seekers. If they would be more positive they would not have time to type unnecessary info…… positive vibes

About the only thing to add is plastic grid flooring squares under mattress to aid in moisture circulation. That's something I've seen other platform bed people do. I've been shopping for futon bed and the comments say to get the grass reed mat to prevent mold starting. Maybe that layer is an option too in this case.
@MimzyandCompany

hmm...so far there's no moisture build up/mold under her mattress. probably because she is just one small girl sleeping on the bed. IDK but I check it once in a while to make sure. thank you for the great ideas! this is very good info for others who may need those options. thx!

I am building a tiny home and this is exactly what I need in my room! I LOVE 😍LOVE the fact that it has open space underneath! Now I have somewhere to put my swing machine. Quick question... did you screw the two dresser drawers together?
@MimzyandCompany
Жыл бұрын
yes, I think I only put two screws in each, making sure the screws were not too long to go through and not allow the drawers to operate.
Nice Captain's bed. I cannot do any assembly projects. I have no patience. I bought a desk. It came with so many pieces that it is still standing on my bedroom unassembled.

I understand! I’m sure this bed is a lot less pieces and parts than your desk.
When did you clean the inside and how?
@MimzyandCompany
Жыл бұрын
my daughter vacuums under it frequently. But are you asking about how i cleaned the dressers before i made the bed? I use Murphy oil soap on all my furniture when i bring it home.
How has the mattress moisture build up and air circulation held up after 2 yrs on that underlayment?
@MimzyandCompany
Жыл бұрын
That’s a good question! I didn’t know about that until recently! I watched an RV rehab video and he mentioned moisture and mold. So I checked my daughters mattress thoroughly and it’s fine . No moisture , no mold. I think since she’s a very petite girl and not a big hot sweaty man it’s working out fine. But I may put some vents in the plywood anyway.

Awesome Job👍 Although you should make that slide door into a lift door.that holds up sturdy, then she can also use it as a desk🚪⬆️😉 or find small drawers that fit in the middle🗄️ Then switch the end table night stand for just a desk table or make a lift door where she can still be able to open and close the drawers that used to be blocked by the night stand, then buy a little chair for a desk area🪑😉 Jesus Christ Love's Us All Hallelujah Amen❣️🙌

The biggest issue you going to face is a lack of airflow which can result moisture buildp and mildew.

So far so good. I check it once in a while. I think since my daughter is only one tiny human sleeping on the bed AND the mattress is very deep, it’s fine. But yes I should just go ahead and drill some holes in the plywood. It doesn’t take much to ventilate.

It’s flooring underlayment. It’s wood glued together in layers to make a 4’x8’ sheet. It’s only 1/4” thick , but it is plywood and it was in fact $13.98 per sheet at the time of recording.
Wow now that’s taking “hacking” to the extreme. This is ridiculous looking and how can you choose a bed without proper support ? You must have amazing back because if I did that I would be at the chiropractor and physiotherapist daily. #BadBackProblems

The bed is very flat and sturdy since the unsupported area is only about 14” and my daughter is only 100lbs.. it doesn’t budge even when I lay on it either.
