    You should keep a white wood panel inside of the crawl space so in case there is an intruder, you can hide in there and if they look inside the cabinet you can put the panel against the hole so it would look like an empty cabnet

    LOVED this video when I first saw it last year. It was perfect timing because I was moving from one place with 2 tiny bedrooms to 1 normal sized bedroom. With the tiny bedrooms, I had turned one into a closet and was loosing my closet moving into a bigger bedroom. I modified your plan to use custom cabinets to raise them to 40" and extended out 18" verses 15" (to fit a standard hanger). Each of the cupboard became a half closet! Thank you so much for sharing your idea!!

    It will make the crawling space even lower, but I would make the matress slightly sink between the cabinets. It would look prettier IMO, more like a whole. +it would prevent the matress from sliding a bit away from the wall, wich would annoy me big time :P.

    +Fenke B I think sunk beds do look kind of cool but they pose 3 problems. My parents had a water bed those mattresses are usually sunk. Putting sheets on was a nightmare. Also, the comforter never sits nicely. Lastly, I remember my parents ALWAYS having a bruise or 2 on their shins and randomly hearing "ow!" as they crawled out of bed. It is so easy to hit yourself on the corners next to your mattress because the mattress sinks but the hard wood doesn't.

  • @Fenke1994

    @Fenke1994

    That's another practical perspective that should be considerd.. Didn't think about the possibility of bruising against the edge :P

  • @princesskazzer

    @princesskazzer

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Fenke B you wouldn't have to completely sink the mattress to stop it from moving. You could slightly drop it so that the mattress has a frame around it, and it shouldn't be too hard to make the bed as you can still access the corners and sides, just gives it the support to stop it moving around.

    After admiring this bed for the past two or three years, I finally built a bed for my 7 year old based on your plans... IKEA doesn't make the smaller two cabinets anymore that you made the "steps" out of, so I improvised, and used a Better Homes and Gardens 3 cube organizer on its side as one long "bottom step/platform," and 4 IKEA knoxhult cabinets, since I couldn't find the 15" deep cabinets you used. We finished it off with superhero knob pulls - because what else would you use for a boy who loves the Avengers? Thank you so much for this tutorial, and the plans online... It was a great project to work on, and my son is thrilled with his bed, and little man cave... and I feel like I've been able to give something to my child that he'll remember for the rest of his life.

    Hello to you HandyDad 😊 I just wanna say, it’s been a tuff time, but we managed to pull it off!!! We used your amazing idea and we bought the IKEA cabinets but the 40” ones and combined other cabinets to create the stairs with storage and we created a high queen sized bunk bed with a playground/ full bed under the queen bed. Can I just say, it took us both 3 days, we spent $400 for everything and it was much worth it! I know there are bunk beds out there ready to go but they cost $600-$1k even more. But we managed to create such a beautiful bed I can’t even describe it. Thank you thank you thank you for the greatest idea!! You rock! 😉

    Excellent work! You have re-set the bar for "How to Videos." I just have one design suggestion stemming from my own experience with storage beds, and that is to completely cover the bed slats with a light weight solid piece such as the decorative panel. My only disappointment with storage beds was how quickly saw dust and dirt drifts down through the slots and onto whatever is stored beneath them. My most recent solution to this problem was to tightly tack down a dust proof mattress cover that zipped along 3 sides to the corners and sides of the frame then installing the slats inside of it.

    @gabbi h It is a corner bed. It would be an extremely oblivious burglar to not notice a 200+ pound man crawling out of another hole 3 feet from the first. @Tobi Sterling has the best idea about having a fake back that you leave inside the storage area so that when you do climb in to hide you can replace the entry hole with the backing. that way the burglar is less likely to find them if they open the doors to check the cabinets for loot.

    Am i the only one that is thinking that particle board is not a suitable material to use as a stepping platform or stairs, especially particle board that is not laying on top of supporting boards but rather screwed into the side of the supporting boards, Its a great idea and wonderful design but i would have just used the ikea furniture as a template and made it all out of hardwood instead of particle board, It would be more stable and last longer then cheap particle board, you could also then keep the wood grain of the hard wood and stain it instead of having stock white color.
