    Yay for wood glue and feet! Your tips about making sure the horizontal pieces meet the vertical pieces flush and having your son sit on it are two important things nobody mentions. I've seen these stands with one corner supported by only a few millimeters of wood because of wood or cut imperfections. I use the paper test... can I slide a piece of paper between any part of my joints. Nice instructional video - can hardly wait to see tanks on it!

    Nice thorough build. I like how you didn’t cut any corners to save a dollar and overbuilt the stand. I watched another large KZreadr build a double 125 stand and couldn’t believe he used 2x4 for the 6’ spans. I always use 2x6 minimum for any span over 36”. Thanks for sharing Jason. 👍

    Awesome and thorough! I tried making my first large tank stand last year - a dual 75g stand with extra shelving above it. I failed somewhere along the way and the bottom 75g isn’t flush. So now it’s a garage storage shelf! Sigh oh well, lesson learned.

    I'm glad you posted this, I'm just now starting to plan my 75 gallon stand and everyone I can find has a center brace, I want just edge braces. Would you go 2x6 with just a 75 or would you go 2x8? I'd also like the stand to stick out 4-6 inches on each side of the tank so I can sit stuff on it... I'm imagining the botton I'm going to brace pretty well out of 2x4s and sit it straight on the ground (no legs) with plywood, as I would like to be able to set up everywhere from a 10 gallon to a 75 gallon on it (currently have a 10 for it, but may switch it to a 40 breeder).

    Good job on the stand and thanks for sharing/making the video! Just wondering it must be a pretty heavy stand? So best to build where you want to put it? Probably not a smart things to build it in the garage then trying to haul it into a narrow hallway into the basement?

  • @PrimeTimeAquatics

    @PrimeTimeAquatics

    4 жыл бұрын

    Good question. Yes, I build almost all my stands in place because my staircase leading into the basement winds so I can't get them downstairs if I build them in the garage. If I ever need to get them out, they have to come apart. That stand is pretty heavy. Two strong dudes could probably get it down a straight staircase, but I sure wouldn't want to deal with it. :-)

    If I wanted to do this but build so that I could eventually upgrade to 180 gallons on the top and bottom, how are the dimensions of the span change? In other words which pieces do I change based on what is listed below? I know it’s a 24 inch deep versus 18 inch. Also, why did he make this 8 feet long if the tanks are only 6 feet long?

  • @PrimeTimeAquatics

    @PrimeTimeAquatics

    Жыл бұрын

    The width would have to increase to accommodate 180s. The overall length is a product of the design. The bottom tank must rest on a 6ft frame - with the support legs being exterior to that you get an overall length that is greater.

    Hello I know it's been 4 years since this video was done but I hope you can answer my questions? At minute 13:52 you said you will put in cross braces on the inside but didn't show either of them. Were they installed at under the short side or depth of the plyboard? I plan to use your method on 2 75 gallons to start then maybe 2 more 75 gallons but using a similar idea with 2x4 and 2x6 instead of 2x6 and 2x8 since the sizes of our tanks are different. Does that sound like a good idea? Thanks in advance.
